DDP reloadable starting Aug 19th (Updated with prices)

I'm confused... with the dining plan, you aren't doled out credits one day at a time. You're given the entire reservations' worth in a lump sum when you check in. So there's no reason to "reload" credits if you run out each day.

On the other hand, if this is talking about a way to add additional credits ala carte to an existing dining plan, then I'd be very interested.

They will probably let you add another whole days worth.

So the cost will be the same as a day on whatever plan you have chosen.
and I would imagine everyone in your party will have to reload.

I doubt they will be a la carte... It will probably be the whole days worth you have to add...

So the cost will be your full cost of a days worth of meals...

Seriously, Disney keeps talking about getting people away from free dining and discounts yet they keep offering these kinds of discounts. No matter how you look at the DDP is a discounted way to purchase meals.

For the guest its a great idea but from a business point of view its really a stupid idea. You already have people in your Resorts and Parks why not stick them with regular price for meals if they gobble up their credits? I don't see anyone going offsite to eat a meal because their DDP credits are low or have run out. Simply leaving a park to drive to 192 or somewhere to get a meal because you run out of credits doesn't seem all that logical when you factor in you need to leave the park, drive to wherever, eat and then head back.

The truth is many times uninformed people don't stop to figure out that their DP is costing them MORE than the meals actually would...
So in many cases Disney makes out better with people purchasing the DP.
Also I bet some of the privately owned restaurants lose money to Disney by people using the DP.
I always get the feeling some restaurants are annoyed that we use the DP.
It is still a value for us or atleast before the last price increase it was...
Because we still have 3 under 10yo.
Once the kids get older we will not use the DP anymore.

Right, I understand that however what I was trying to say is the DDP is a discount in its own right. Being able to purchase the DDP is a perk for staying onsite (when they are not giving it away) so in that form it could be argued as a selling point to stay in a Disney owned resort.

Once you have them in the Resort what need is there to offer any further extension or upgrade to a discounted plan? I understand peoples desire to be able to take advantage of the adding credits because it benefits them, my point is simply why do it? People will spend them money in the park at full price regardless if they are hungry and really want something to eat once they have used their credits.

I just finished taking a survey feom disney. One of the question was about a customizable dining plan. Price for credits were; snack 4, quick serve 12, and table 27.

Not sure if that has any bearing on this rumor. However, I wanted to post the prices while I still remembered them.

i don't think disney loses money on the dining plan... maybe the kids' but certainly not the adults... esp not the signature 2TS restaurants... and if being able to buy add'l credits gets you into a 2TS restaurant, and frees up some of the other restaurants, it's a bonus for disney...

because we are using credits on arrival day, and have a late flight on departure day, and at least once or twice like to do 2 TS meals in one day, we would buy an extra day's worth of credits... we tend to like three meals per day, and though we now share b'fast and sometimes lunch, we would not share if we weren't trying to stretch the credits...

oh, and we've tried the deluxe plan, but that's a few too many credits for our liking... in order to use them all, you have to do some 2TS meals... and using them on CS meals is not the best bang for one's buck, and having a million ADRs was just too much scheduling...

so, buying an extra day or two of the DDP would fit our style perfectly!

See, that is what I would want. We are eating at 2 restaurants this trip that are Signature, thus 2 per person are used, and while I would not refill it for a buffet or breakfast, I have one more "dinner" that would be more than $27 per person, so if the other poster is right

Actually, this is one of those discounts that does not cost disney money. The food mark up at WDW is HUGE, even with the "discount" or savings someone gets from the dining plan, disney still makes money. Plus, most people on the dining plan do eat out more because of the dining plan and the "perceived" discount. If you talk to people who buy the DDP, they do more TS meals, character dining, etc. People that do not do the DDP usually will not eat a TS every day plus a CS every day.

This is a way for Disney to make more money and allowing people to purchase more credits is actually brilliant if Disney were to implement it (I think this is one of those survey rumors, which people think means it is happening for sure). If Disney can get people to purchase more credits, that is just more profit for them, because Disney still profits from the dining plan (and during free dining it becomes a revenue generator).

And we won't even get into all the people that purchase the DDP and walk into a restaurant and order a burger or something which would have been cheaper to purchase OOP. Or the people that don't make reservations and only eat CS meals, so they end up severely overpaying or not even using all of their credits up.......

If that's true... it's not a great deal like I initially thought. In that case, we'll just continue to pay OOP for snacks that cost under say, $3.75, and pay OOP for TS breakfsts which are almost always under $27 and keep the TS dinners for the DDP.

I'm still interested in seeing what Disney has to offer, I hope they were just highballing the cost of their credits to see just how much people would spend.

Ideally this would allow you to pick up an extra TS credit so that if you are on the DDP you can consider some 2ts places.

but, I suppose you can already do that by paying oop for a 1ts meal one day? Price point would be interesting.

In most cases you are better off paying OOP for the 2TS than the 1TS. Crunch the numbers, but the better value for the money is usually with non-buffet 1 TS meals.

It's volume vs margin. DDP gives a discount in order to get more meals purchased overall. The goal would be 7 purchased DDP meals has a higher profit margin than 3 non DDP meals or something like that. While they may not want to give FREE dining, Disney is obviously making a good amount on the DDP. Otherwise, it would have been discontinued a few years ago.

Why not just make it available for everyone to purchase?

WDTC sells the dining plans. And that would make packages less appealing if anyone could buy a dining plan without a travel package. Not to mention possibly irking guests who buy a dining plan with their travel package.
The dining plans and other extras are really a perk for WDTC WDW guests.
Also, anyone can buy an AP and the TiW membership.
