DDP Questions

Please help me with a few DDP questions.

We are renting points for AKV in June for 5 nights.

How much is the basic dining plan (1 tsm, 1 csm, and 1 snack) for adults and for children? I lost that info.

Also
when the person I am renting from has put that info on the reservation for us, but when do we need to pay for it? When we check in? When we check out? Before we go to WDW?

Know nothing about it, but am interested in learning more as well. We were down in Dis over Spring Break and everywhere we went, they asked us if we were participating in Dis's dining plan.

The basic plan is $37.99 per adult, $9.99 per child (9 and under) per night of your reservation. Yo must have the plan for all nights of your reservation, and the DVC member must contact Member Services to add it to the reservation. You will pay for it when you check-in at your resort.

The plan includes one table service meal, one counter service meal, and one snack per night of your reservation. The plan does not include server gratuity, nor does that Table Service meal include appetizer.

I am debating on getting the DDP and DDE. Which one would be better? We are a family of 4 with a 4 year old and one year old, plus we are making 2 trips to Disney this year.

It really depends on your meal plans.

The DDE card is available to annual passholders and to Florida residents. It costs $60 if you have an AP or PAP and $85 if you are qualifying as a FLorida Resident.

The DDE is good at most table service restaurants and a few counter service restaurants. The DDE card will give you a 20% discount on food and beverage purchases at participating restaurants. An automatic 18% charge for gratuity is added to your bill. If you spend at least $300 at participating restaurants, you will break even (over what you would have spent without buying the card).

Which is better? You'll have to figure out what & where you would normally eat and then compare the two.

I think I have read that you do not have to do that, except maybe for the free dining offer.

We are hoping to have a family reunion in December as new owners at the BCV.
I think we want the get the meal plan but we are debating about the DDE instead. I just am not sure which is best and I need to verify about having to buy the one day passes.

There is no requirement to purchase the one day ticket. The DDP is a separate add-on to your DVC reservation. DVC members staying on points or members cash are not eligible for free dining. For free dining you need a full priced cash reservatin through Disney, with park ticket purchase.

For all versions of the DP, all persond in the room must be on the plan for the entire length of the reservation, the same as with a cash reservation.

We hope to be able to make our reservation tomorrow and I just want to be completely prepared. As old Disney people but new DVC owners I am finding myself questioning lots of new things!

We were told it would take a week to ten days for our information from the final closing to show up and tomorrow is day seven! I am so excited but also afraid that we are going to end up wait listed!

We use the DDP and the DDE. When on the DDP, you can use the DDE to pay for your appetizer and fancy drinks.

Here's my experience with the dining plan, we went last year and of course they had the regular DDP and we found it MORE food than we could possibly eat. We would use our snack for a smoothie while at the parks (on the last day we used remaining snacks for smoothies for breakfast) and ate at any of the wonderful counter service locations. Dinners we made ADR's, but again, more food than we would ever order normally. Disney makes sure you don't walk away hungry! We LOVED it and will continue to add to our ressies every time we go. We were mom and dad, 7yr old son and 2yr old (3rd b-day was at WDW last year!!) daughter last year. Daughter loves fruit, and I think that's all she ate the whole time we were there!! She ate off of our plates but this year we will have her on her own DDP so she can get whatever she wants. Would highly recommend adding the DDP, IMHO it's SO worth it. Hope this helps!

DH and I are just back from Mar 30-Apr 5 BWV trip, and we chose not to do the DDP this trip, but we have DDE. We loved DDP in the past but with the 2008 changes I couldn't make it work vs. DDE.

Well I saved every receipt, did a full comparison on our return and we saved $47 by using DDE instead of DDP. We actually ate in a pattern similar to how the DDP works, and would have used all the snacks, all but 2 CS's and all TS's. When I removed the one lunch we had at Big River and replaced it with a CS based on Seasons' prices, the variance came to $8 more that we would have paid on DDP vs. just using DDE.

When you factor $37.99 per day plus tip on the full value of the TS meal, it is tough to carve out a savings. I think it differs greatly if you have a child on the plan; we are two adults. I was surprised, however, to see that it would have actually cost us more - I used the most expensive snacks that we bought (Dole Whip floats and $3.95 pieces of fudge) and even one of the CS's was Wolfgang Puck Express - but still the DDE was more economical for our habits.
