DDP - order ANY entree off the menu? What about 'feasts,' 'skillets,' etc?

Excuse my ignorance, I'm a DDP newbie -

When you're on the dining plan, are there certain things that you can or can't order? Does your waiter go over that with you after the famous question, "Are you on the dining plan?"

What about the restaurants where there are all-you-can-eat or combo options, like the feasts at Marrakesh or the skillet at Whispering Canyon? Those are excluded from DDP? And then someone posted on another thread the 'fixed' menu options at Kona for $30.99 - could you get that on DDP or no?

Thanks so much!

I'm not sure about the feasts at Marrakesh....there may be a small upcharge on those.

The skillets at WCC are included as well as the price fixed meals at places like Kona, Capt Grille, etc.

Limitations are at Via Napoli (no sharing and there are limitations with pizzas). If you have Deluxe and want a "appetizer for two" than 2 people have to opt for that as their appetizer. I don't know of any other menu limitations, but if there are the waiter will go over it with you. Not all non-alcoholic beverages count, though some places like WCC will let you order the bottomless milkshake as your drink.

First of all, your waiter will ask you if you're on the dining plan. This is not to get you a different menu or anything, but so they can explain to you what the plan entitles you to. (I also think it puts the "dining plan" concept into people's heads for their next visit if they're not using one for the current visit.) I can say from experience that being on DxDP for a week meant I got pretty tired of the whole process by midweek.

On the whole, you can order anything you want off the menu, as long as it's in the appropriate menu section: appetizer (includes soups and non-entree salads) for DxDP, entree, dessert, and non-alcoholic beverage (excepting those in souvenir cups).

Several restaurants offer an option of fixed price meals; at most of these, a basic DDP credit entitles you to all three courses (including the appetizer), but it's from a fixed subset of the full menu and absolutely no substitutions are allowed. Marrakesh is a minor exception in that heir "feasts" are allowed, but at a small upcharge per person. At these places, you have the choice of using the restricted menu for a 3-course meal or the full menu for the normal entree + dessert.

there is nothing at all that states you cant order the feasts at Marrakesh.
there is no seperate menu for the dining plan people.

if the items state two people-- it will be charged two credits

(but that is for 2012- might change for next year

Marrakesh does have an "upcharge" on the feasts - it's $5-$7 per person ordering it, the amount depends on which feast you order.

Yes, you can get the fixed price menus at restaurants that offer them (I think there may be an exception for the Flying Fish chefs menu) and get an appetizer on the regular plan as long as you are willing to stick with the entrees and desserts that are on the fixed menu.

The non-alcoholic beverage component varies widely. It will include the standard fountain drinks - soda, coffee, tea, lemonade, but many of the Disney owned restaurants will often allow milkshakes, slushies (no refills), virgin cocktails and even pressed pot coffee (mainly at the Sigs). The dining plan doesn't include the light ups or drinks in souvie cups and many specialty non-alcoholic beverages (e.g. bottled sparkling water, specialty sodas/coffees).

As a PP said, you'll be asked at every restaurant and you'll find that after a few times you'll know all about the plan and won't have many questions. If it's a Disney owned restaurant there's more leeway, esp with drinks and items "for 2" while the third party restaurants tend to adhere to the dining plans more strictly.

But it appears the OP was asking about DDP & you are referring to DxDP--there is no appetizer anymore w/ DDP.

You can get an appetizer if you get one of the fixed menu meals that include an appetizer, even if you are on the DDP instead of the DDxP

Marrakesh is different. They are multi-course meals, not the standard appetizer-entree-dessert setup. That's why they charge and I think they charge on the deluxe also.
