DDP or DDxP?

Does that mean that the DDxP lets you use any combination of TS and CS as your 3 meals per night? It does not specify what the 3 meals consist of.

I know you end up getting apps covered on the upgrade but the gratuity is not included still. We were just curious on the breakdown of the 3 meals.

Yes, you could use those 3 meal credits however you choose. 3 TS or 2 TS and 1 CS or all CS. Whatever fits you best.

Okay, I decided on the dxddp for our family, because we have 2 young children and want to maximize character dining. That being said, we'd do a ts for breakfast and dinner and probably cs for lunch and snacks (water or drinks).

We have planned:

Breakfast Lunch Dinner Credits used

On Plane CS HDDR 3

CM CS CRT 3

Ohana CS Coral Reef 3

Playhouse Disney CS Sci-Fi 3

Safari Breakfast CS WCC 3

Crystal Palace CS CM 3

WCC CS Le Cellier 3

Cost of dxddp = $1,399.72 (2 adults & 2 children). If we were to average our meals alone we'd spend (with tax) $1,215.19. That is for ts credits only. If we average a cs at what $8 each, at 7 nights, we'd add $224.00 (which now gives me a credit of $39.47) add to that the money saved for mugs, and 2 snacks each day and you can see that for us, it does us better to utilize the deluxe plan versus the basic.

But, we're willing to stop and sit down 2x per day with young kids, so it works for us.

You've got to do what works or will work for your family. Good luck!

I am sure that it's just a typo, but you're using four credits on day 2 because CRT is two credits.

I agree though, the DxDDP looks to be a perfect fit for your family.

You're right, forgot to minus 1 cs from previous day (lunch), we'd use snacks or may not even be that hungry.

Good catch!

We were never able to have 2 buffets/all you care to eats on the same day. So on Day 2 you probably won't use the CS meal if you do Chef Mickey's for breakfast and CRT for dinner, so you'll probably still be at 3 for the day.

Also earlier you noted using your snack credits for water/drinks. Keep in mind you'll have refillable mugs on your plan and won't need to buy drinks anytime you have those with you :thumbsup2

You can only refill your mugs at your resort. You can't refill them in the parks so it would be necessary to buy a drink at the park occasionally (with a snack credit)

DH and I are using the DxDDP next Sept. ( we were lucky enough to add-on to our bounceback free dining) But even if we paid full price for the deluxe, we calculated we would save $400 to $500 dollars and we didn't figure in the tax that would be included.:thumbsup2

These are our ADRs..keep in mind, it's just for 2 adults and we love signature restaurants:( this is for 9days and 8 nights)

Breakfast:
CP
Tusker House
Capt. Grille
(any other breakfast bites, we will use snack credits)

Lunch:
Raglan Rd.
Brn. Derby
Coral Reef
Planet Hollywood
LeCellier
Chefs de France

Dinner:
LeCellier
Narcoosees (2 times) We love this place and DH loves his lobster
Artist Pt.
Yachtsman
Jiko
Flying Fish
Coral Reef

We are returning to the POFQ and DH is looking forward to using a couple of snack credits on those awesome beignets. Luckily we will have 2 full days at the F&W and will use up a few snack credits there.

I'm going for 7 days in September and I had the same decision to ponder, DxDDP or reg DDP. I've obsessed over this so much that my wife thinks I'm nuts for spending so much time thinking about it. (I had to show her this forum to prove that I'm not the only one ;) )

After initially deciding on the reg DDP, I calculated how much I would spend at the restaurants I would go to and the CS meals I would have. I found that in order to save much, I would pretty much always need to order the most expensive items on the menu. Otherwise, the savings are pretty minimal now that they've removed the appetizer.

So then I began looking at the DxDDP. First off, I knew that there was no way I would be able to have three full meals a day and finish all the food. However, I liked the idea that I could use two of the credits on dinner at a Signature restaurant and the remaining credit on a nice TS breakfast or lunch.

When you look at it this way, the savings with the DxDDP are pretty obvious. Essentially, you can easily spend the $70 a day the plan costs in just one dinner at a Signature restaurant.

Examples:

1) California Grill - Jumbo Lump Crab appetizer ($16), Scallops main course ($34), Pear Tart dessert ($10), drink ($3), tax ($4) TOTAL-$67

2) Narcoossee's - Mussels appetizer ($15), Surf and Turf main course ($58), Creme Brulee dessert ($7), drink ($3), tax ($5) TOTAL-$88

3) Yachtman's Steak House - Seafood Salad appetizer ($16), Rib-Eye steak main course ($37), White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Pie dessert ($7), drink ($3), tax ($4) TOTAL-$67

etc., etc.

This means that each day I eat at a Signature restaurant, I get another TS meal and two snacks for free, which can easily come out to $30+ a day. The resort refillable mug is a nice throw-in perk.

The main difference between the two plans is that the DxDDP's credits can all be used for TS dining and appetizers are included. This dramatically increases the savings.

This plan makes sense for me because I like having an appetizer with my meals and I like trying higher end restaurants like the Signature restaurants. Also, even though I wouldn't be able to eat three full meals a day, I think I can easily handle two, especially with all the walking involved in doing the parks. I also like the idea of being able to try more TS and character meals. I'm the type of person for whom eating is one of the most important parts of my vacations.

Sure, I'll be spending more per day than I normally would on food, but what I'll be getting is an amazing food trip to remember at substantial savings.

However, I know not everyone's values are like mine and what's important and enjoyable for me may seem like being tied down with a leash by all those ADR's to others.

Therefore, the conclusion is that even though savings can be much more easily realized with the DxDDP, it is only a value FOR YOU if you really enjoy eating, especially at the Signature restaurants. If eating is not so important to you, you can either pay OOP or use the DDP for some minor savings.

I agree, the savings are individual for each family, and it's nice when people realize that what works for them will not work for every other family.:goodvibes

In this case the OP is going for 8 nights and dining at 11 TS restaurants. They said in their OP that they are comfortable just eating twice a day and seem to be fine with the idea of doing CS, not originally stating that they want to upgrade their CS's to TS's.

Comparing the DDP to the DxDDP for the OP, and what they state their wants are in their post...

Cost to OP
DDP-$1,072
OOP-$524.13 (most expensive items on the menu incl. tax)
TOTAL on DDP-$1,596.13

TOTAL on DxDDP-$2,000

Discounting the fact that the OP already said that the DxDDP would probably be too much food...
They get about $120 of extra snacks on the DxDDP
They can get about $60 in refillable mugs
They'll have five extra credits to use, which they may or may not be able to use.
So yes, it is possible for them to break even with the plan, if they eat all that they're entitled to.

Certainly there are many people for whom the DxDDP is a clear cut savings. I just don't see the value for the OP, unless they drastically change what I perceive their eating habits to be (from their original post)

OP here!

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one stressing and agonizing over this issue. :)

I'm thinking we might throw in another 1 or 2 TS breakfasts if they were covered with the DxDDP, and of course there are those snacks. But really, we rarely order appetizers in the "real world" anyway, and the kids will not get the mugs because we don't do soda, though DH and I do have our morning coffee and tea.

I just keep thinking, well if we got the deluxe, we'd pay just a "bit" more and get TONS more stuff...but then maybe we wouldn't.

Welcome Back! Throwing in more will help you get closer.

Right now you're at about a $400 defecate DDP vs DxDDP

Chef Mickey's Breakfast - $100 per visit for your group
Crystal Palace Breakfast - $84 per visit for your group

That's $184 right there.

Two mugs would cost you about $28.00

If you use all of the snacks that you're entitled to, then that's an extra $120.00

Adjusting your dining like this will add just over $330 to your OOP costs, and make it much closer to 'breaking even'.
