Does anyone know why Disney doesn't make DDP available in smaller numbers of days within a reservation to those who are paying for it? I don't understand why it couldn't be offered for a partial stay, much like the breakdown of MYW pass categories :confused3 ; I would think it would bring in lots of people who couldn't or wouldn't want it for the entire vacation, but just for a few days. They could even make it date-specific within a given reservation.
Maybe I'm missing a downside (I guess someone will tell me :rotfl2: ).

If you really don't want it for the entire time, you can book 2 separate ressies - one with the dining plan and one without. I don't know if they would make you check out and check back in to the same resort or not. I don't know if anyone has done this or not but technically speaking it would work.

That is what we do, but we go for fairly long trips, so moving from one resort to another is more than okay with us, but I wonder about anyone going for 4-6 days, and who would love DDP for 2-3 days. Moving from one resort/room to another could be a pain.
I really wasn't asking for us, specifically; I was just wondering why it couldn't be done........................ :confused3

The Dining Plan is, ostensibly, intended to provide incentive for guests to spend their entire visit on-property, never leaving to spend a day at Universal or Sea World or other area attractions. Allowing guests to book the Dining Plan for only a certain number of days would work directly against this intended objective.

You can make two reservations at the same resort, first a package including dining and tickets followed by a room only reservation.

I'm sure the dining plan is priced assuming people will be using at a variety of restaurants. Guests buying it for only a few days will probably be using it exclusively at the more expensive restaurants.

Bicker is right, an unstated purposed of the dining plan, DME and ticket pricing is to encourage guests into spending all their time (and $$$) at WDW.

A poster said with DME your wallet belongs to Disney as soon as you land at MCO.
