This is probably a dumb question, but anyway...
I can't eat chocolate. If the only desserts that were offered were chocolate, (thinking more CS type places that might not have the selection) does that mean I wouldn't get anything?

What about on drinks. If I don't drink caffeine, corn syrup, or artificial sweeteners, and am lactose intolerant...would I be stuck with water? Could I get juice or decaf/herbal tea at any places w/ lunch or dinner?

I think there was always a non-chocolate choice at counter services... one place had carrot cake, others had multiple choices. For the drinks, I think they have apple/orange juice, but i don't remember seeing tea as the norm. I always drank bottled water.

My youngest daughter has a peanut allergy, we were able to get substitute peanut free desserts at each location. Just have it noted on your reservation. At Cape May the chef said none of the desserts could be guarenteed safe. He said to dd "If you could have *anything for dessert...what would it be?" She said "Vanilla icecream with blueberries". Darn it if he didn't come out of the kitchen with just that in under 5 minutes! We have found Disney to be *the most accomodating place for food allergies...all the chefs made our daughter feel special and cared for.

Just use your brain, too. My DD has an apple allergy, and the chef went over all the foods will me...but didn't mention a single dessert with apples in it. I had a hunch the apple strudel was off limits.:rotfl:

Yea I'm not worried about the table service meals.
I was more wondering about counter service where their selections can be limited.
But now that I think about it, I don't need to be worrying about a shortage of desserts anyway, LOL. Like I really *need* 2+ per day. Hmmm, you think they'd let me sub a side salad for a desset?
I guess my question should have been more about how flexible they are with the choices, and if they sometimes allow substitutions.

Ann,

Just was at WDW in July on the plan and unfortunately have a load of allergies. I have a wheat and diary allergy, so even lactose free can't have, since its the protein in the diary that is the issue. We let Disney know ahead of time and at all Table Service restaurants except the Mexican in Epcot the chef would come out personally and discuss the issues for me. At the Polyesian for the character breakfast they were able to make waffles for me with no wheat or diary and the chef was amazing. For me dessert time is the worst since can't eat cakes or diary. Many times they would make a fruit selection for me or they even had on hand the rice diary free dessert or the tofutti (sp?) line of products.

In terms of drink they all had soya SILK for me to have with coffee or if I wanted instead of milk. Tons of juices, powerade, ice tea etc to have with your counter services. Not a pop drinker so never once felt that I was deprived. In terms of counter service places was always able to come up with something, even if it meant a burger without the bun. But loads of salads even some counter service restaurants had wheat free, diary free packaged desserts. I only found those near the end of the stay at our hotel, they tend to be in baskets at the bakery areas. This site is amazing to check out the different restaurants and see what they have ahead of time. Again this time doing the Lilo and Stitch Breakfast, 50's Prime Time, Concourse at the Comtempory (amazing and the chef was the absolute best for helping out and tailoring items like no butter but margarine) and sad to see it go. I thought that I would have loads of problems with not having enough food due to limited selection and had brought down a bunch of snacks that i could eat and found didn't have to. Hope that helps.

to the OP... my ds has peanut/tree nut allergies and most (if not all) baked goods ('cept churros!) were off-limits for him... we had no problem substituting fruit, side salad, bag of chips, ice pops and more for his dessert at CS locations... just calmly explain what you would like and why and you should be fine :)
