DDP, Do you still tip?

DDP...Do you still routinely tip?

  • Yes, always!

  • Routinely? No. Only with exceptional service, so I rarely do.

  • No. The tip is included and that's the whole idea.

  • Yes, I do about half the time or more.

yep we sure do. :thumbsup2 Unless it's reeeaaally bad service (which honestly, we've never ran across), we always tip a bit extra.

I dont. I work at a resturant, as a server, and I know just how important tipping is, but I'll be honest, since the DDP has come along, I havent had service that I felt was worth the extra tip. Dont get me wrong, I am a huge fan of the DDP, but it seems now with the increased traffic in the resturants, servers are rushed and a bit more unattentive. Of course, as always, if I ever come across someone who really seems to be doing more than just trying to get me through my meal so the next person can come along, I'll leave something extra.

I rarely even have any needs that warrant extraordinary service, so having need and delivery come together at the same time is extremely rare. 18% pretty-much covers the best service that I typically need, and the service I typically receive at WDW.

What he said. :teeth:

I think that 18% is a pretty good tip, especially sinc you are ringing up a bill that has appitizers and desserts on each meal. We do tip extra if we feel the service was excellent and really made our meal something nice, just by a great personality, ect..

I agree with BTown, in that the servers we had were rushed and inattentive. We had to flag our servers down a couple times at both Le Cellier and 'Ohana. Our server at LTT for lunch wasn't much better. Ironically, the best server we had was where we had our worst food ... Sci-Fi. But he was the best server only because he brought our food and re-filled our beverages promptly. So no, we certainly never felt a need to tip extra.

yes they have to tip the bussers and non disney restaurants don't get the full amount of the tip

I generally wouldn't tip more than 18% at any other restaurant at home so why would I do so at Disney? I'm sure that at many other places I eat the tip has to be divided up between various employees and I don't change my tipping habits there. And to be honest, some of the service I've gotten at Disney wouldn't have warranted an 18% if I hadn't been on some sort of dining package.

We usually tip 20%, so we almost always add something to bring it up to that level...unless the service is substandard, which we have not experienced.

Just to clarify...18% is the built in tip for DDP???
That is correct - DDP, Premium and Platinum dining packages all include an 18% gratutity.

I did not read all the responses, but had to jump in and add some info.

I was at WDW this past weekend, and spoke to several servers in different restaurants. Most servers are NOT enjoying the DDP. It is a bad situation for both sides, sorry to say.

Blessings,
Winnie

I tip extra at the non-Disney restaurants. The included tip is 18% of what Disney pays the restaurant, maybe 10% of the menu price of the food.

I don't agree with the premise of the poll Do you tip the wait stiff? An 18% tip is included, the question is how often do you see the need to tip EXTRA.

Oh good grief, whatever! I think most people got the jist that that was meant. Git! :surfweb:

Are you kidding? I work at Wal-Mart, I can barely afford this trip. Now if some server goes all out and does something extra and out of the ordinary maybe but otherwise....NO.

The servers don't all like actually having to wait for a paycheck, and then paying taxes on all their income, like almost everyone else on the planet has to. I'm not saying that to be snotty, or cut down servers. I spent most of my 20s as a server, it's simply the truth! Not sure how that makes it a "bad situation" for them, just because they have to pay more taxes and learn how to budget. And I can't see at all how it's a bad situation from the customer side!

Yes, I didn't get that part of the earlier posters remarks, either: Most of the folks I've spoken to, who have used to Dining Plan, utterly LOVE it. It seems very clear to me that the Dining Plan is a very good thing for those who patronize it.

Nope, we didnt tip anything extra for our ddp stay this past weekend either, i think i may have if they had made it easier for example if there was a line for extra gratuities ont he form you sign for the ddp or something but i rarely carry cash around so im not goin to ask them to "charge" their tip so whatever ddp gave them is what they got.

No, I do not routinely tip extra. I did tip extra at Sci-Fi due to the fact that the server really tried to be entertaining for my children etc.. I have heard from other posters that some of the waitresses make more than $100,000.00 a year...Even if they only earn half of that, I feel that is very good pay for the job they are doing.....Most teachers in Michigan make less than that and so do most policeman, and quite honestly can anyone argue that the Disney waitresses are better qualified and work harder then your local fireman....I tip for good service at home about 20-25%, but in most cases the bill is a lot cheaper as everyone does not order an appetizer and dessert and the restaurant has slow times, which does not seem to be the case here.
