DDP and YES tickets

Is it possible to get the QSDP with room only reservations or do I need to book a package? I am planning a trip in August, and would like to sign the kiddos up for a YES program, however we like the freedom of having the dining plan and don't want to have to buy extra tickets to get it. I guess if we have to buy a package it would mean we would have to go back to WDW to use them on another trip .

There are only two ways to get a dining with a room-only reservation.

The first way would be if you have an AP and you reserve an "Annual Passholder Package with Dining". This is not free dining. You get the AP discount on the room and pay OOP for the dining plan.

The other way is to stay in a DVC resort on points - either your own or by renting points from an owner. The dining plans can be added to those reservations at the regular cost.
