DDP and tipping

hum, interesting point Mari.
With the paying the tip, you're still coming out ahead...But free food is still no reason to endure the heat!!

I wonder how many people are going to cancel their plans next fall when they are going with the Free Dining. I bet they will not be to pleased when they are handed a 18% bill. Plus, I wonder if they know about the new rules next year that the tip is no longer included in the Dining Plan, plus no more appetizers.

I can't imagine any would. When you booked it (as we did via bounceback) the CS made sure to note the two changes! I would much rather pay a 18%+ tip than the cost of food! :thumbsup2 I would imagine that those paying for the DDP might be hesitant. 2008 will be an interesting year... I wonder if the # of DDp sold will go down substancially?

The e-mail I received this morning regarding Disney Dining Experience reads:

"We would also like to inform you that the Walt Disney World® Resort will be implementing an across property policy change regarding gratuity at all food and beverage locations. Effective January 1, 2008, 18% gratuity will be added to all transactions, regardless of party size."

Is DDE similar to DDP? :confused3 I was curious. We are booked for next year and have not received an email.

for the DDP,DDE card and partys of six or more an auto gratuity of 18%.
No, a gratuity will NOT 'automatically be added' to DDP bills.

I know I won't - because as a DDP using, non-DDE member, this change will not affect me.

Not at ALL. The Disney Dining Experience is a discount card available to some Disney Guests (Florida residents and AP holders; maybe others) for $65 per year and provides a 20% discount on most items at most/all table service restaurants at Walt Disney World (and in the food courts at the Value resorts, since there are no sit-down restaurants there).
The Disney Dining Plan is available to anybody booking a Magic Your Way package; you pay in advance - $37.99/$9.99 basic, $69.99/$19.99 deluxe - and get either one table service credit, one counter service credit, and one snack credit per night (basic) or three meal credits and two snack credits per night, plus one refillable mug per person (deluxe). Basic plan table service includes one entree, one dessert, one beverage per person; deluxe plan table service adds in an appetizer. Tip is NOT included in the price of either plan - the Guest is responsible for both leaving the tip and determining how much to leave (unless they've used the DDE card for a discount on, or otherwise ordered, items not included on the DDP); or if there are six or more people at the table.

there is a sticky thread on the main restaurant board discussing the tipping changes. Since this thread is heading down the same path, I am going to close this thread and send everybody over there,
thanks,
