DDP and switching resorts

Sure, and there are a couple of benefits to doing that.

For example, some people want DDP for part of the trip, but not for the whole vacation. With a split reservation, you can just get DDP for your stay at one of the resorts, and skip it on the other.

Another situation is when you have different numbers of people in your party at different points in the trip. If it's all one reservation, you have to get DDP for everyone for all of the days. But if you split between resorts, you just get DDP for the people who are on the reservation at each resort.

You could also get Deluxe DDP for one part of your stay, and nothing or basic DDP for the other part. There are lots of variations.

Just keep in mind that all credits start when you check into a resort, and expire at midnight the night you check OUT of that resort.

We found this out the hard way. When we went in May we had three different resorts reservations d/t DVC availability. Since I did not know this, I did not plan to well in making the ADRs. However we have learn from our mistake and are taking advantage in Dec by starting off with DDP at the beginning of our vacation, taking a break while in CL at AKV and ending our vacation with DxDDP. This is a nice variation.

To the OP, my suggestion just look at your ADRs and know all the credits have to be done at midnight.....

So if we switch our points will "reset" with each resort? We plan on buying a 1 day basic ticket just to get the DDP. Will I have to buy another ticket for the new resort?

Yes, in a sense they do. I'm pretty sure reservations at two different resorts are automatically separate, and therefore each DDP is separate, so you get the full allocation of credits for both parts of the stay.

Yes, I'm pretty sure you will. I didn't pay much attention to that because we're DVC and we don't have to buy park tickets.

However, if you have the option to book the whole thing as one reservation, you might not have to buy two tickets. I'm not sure about that, and I'd check with Disney Dining or CRO to be sure.

Unless you can purchase an annual pass room/dining package, or you are a DVC member staying on points, you will have to buy a room/tickets package at both resorts to get the dining plan. Therefore you will need to buy tickets both times. You cannot book two different resorts as one reservation, you would have to book two separate packages, one at each resort. And anyone who is not using an AP or DVC points has to buy tickets as part of the package.

Your dining credits for the first resort stay expire at midnight on the day you check out of the first resort. Your dining credits for the second stay are activated when you check into the second resort. These credits expire at midnight on the day you check out of the second resort. The last night's credits in the original resort will overlap the first night's credits at the next resort. But since you must use the first stay's credits before midnight, it's best to get rid of any of those you have left before you start using the new credits.

AP holders and DVC members staying on points are not required to purchase park tickets. Otherwise though, yes you would have to purchase at least a one day ticket for each resort reservation. The one exception is during free dining. Even AP holders must pay rack rate for the room and purchase at least a one day MYW park ticket during that time, in order to get the free dining and DVC members (staying on points) are not even eligible for free dining, because you must pay rack rates on the room to get it.

We bought a 7 day park hopper and a 1 day single parlk pass for our split stay totalling 8 nights. (4 Poly/4 AKL) in order to do the DDDP for all 8 nights

We switched resorts during our Feb trip because we were not satisfied with our original choice and they accidentally started our credits all over again after we switched resorts- meaning they gave us our first day's credits back and no one noticed. I suppose we could have used them for an extra meal but we would not try to beat the system and take advantage of something we didn't pay for. I'm sure this is uncommon though and only happened because of the unexpected resort switch.
