Sure, and there are a couple of benefits to doing that.
For example, some people want
DDP for part of the trip, but not for the whole vacation. With a split reservation, you can just get DDP for your stay at one of the resorts, and skip it on the other.
Another situation is when you have different numbers of people in your party at different points in the trip. If it's all one reservation, you have to get DDP for everyone for all of the days. But if you split between resorts, you just get DDP for the people who are on the reservation at each resort.
You could also get Deluxe DDP for one part of your stay, and nothing or basic DDP for the other part. There are lots of variations.
Just keep in mind that all credits start when you check into a resort, and expire at midnight the night you check OUT of that resort.
