DDP and someone not staying all nights

We are going to BCV for 9 nights and I am plaaning to get the dinning plan for all of us. Except one of the guests is only staying five nights. Now what would you do. Make two different reservations or Just Pay for the extra days on the dinning plan for that person??

It would be like US $ 160.00 difference but I would hate to be moving around.'

Is there a third option??

If that person is a registered guest you would have to buy the DDP for all the days you would be there. As far as spending the DDP for the last four days, that could be done I'm sure. Some of the nicer places to eat charge an additional sit down meal. So the extra may be worth while for the rest of you.

If you make two different reservations, you'll have to move out and recheck into a different room. You can't link the two reservations to stay in the same room.

I agree with brownie, you can always use the extra table service credits. My sister and BIL are coming in one day after us, but we knew we'd have to buy the dining for all of the nights. That's not really a problem for us, since we will be eating at The Brown Derby And The Yachtsman Steakhouse. We'll actually be short a table service or two as we also want to do a character breakfast. However, I wouldn't waste a TS on the breakfast, not a good value. I really find moving a hassle, and try to avoid it at all costs.

I am also going to agree with everyone that you should use the extra TS credits at the signature dining restaurants. In January, my BIL and SIL left 2 nights early, so they took one night to themselves and went to the CG (BIL loves sushi!) and used 2 extra TS meals. We then paid them the difference and used the other 2 TS ourselves for a sig dining restaurant.

The hard part was using up the 4 extra CS. We sacrificed 2 of our kid's CS meals and got them the adult CS since it was worth more money. My MIL and FIL used the other 2 CS before they left for the airport.

Just be sure to keep track of how many meals you have and plan ahead so you don't lose out on any leftover meals.

I have this same situation coming up with our September trip. When I asked MS about it, they said not to include him on the initial ressie, but when he checks in, to go down and have him added to the room (get his key) and then I could get the DDP for him for the days he'll be there.

In my opinion, it depends on the rest of your situation as well as the days the extra person will stay. Assuming the extra person is not falling in the middle of your stay, I would look at your restaurant choices and plans and then make that decision. The question is whether you could get value from those extra days compared to grouping your more expensive choices during the dining plan and then using less expensive choices when you don't have the dining plan.

If you make two reservations, you would have to check out and then check back in again but you might not have to change units. Overall we cannot answer this question for you only give you guidance.

I would suggest you spend some time with your dining reservations and the menus to help you making final decision.

I wouldn't bet the farm on that advice. Just because an MS CM is trying to be helpful and supportive doesn't mean the advice is sound.

There are several problems with this advice. The first is that the DDP regs say everyone in the room has to have DDP for the entire time, or nobody does. That's one of the most important requirements of DDP, and an issue where they tell people "NO" many times each day.

The second issue is that you have to arrange DDP prior to your arrival. I've heard three days, and I've heard five, but I have not heard of someone just walking up to the front desk and adding it. (Although I'd never say it has not happened -- everything has happened once, and "consistency" and "Disney" should never be used in the same sentence.)

I think the most likely outcome is they would tell him he just flat can't add DDP at checkin, period. The second most likely outcome would probably be that they'd let him add it for the entire duration of the ressie.

It's hard for me to imagine them letting him violate one of the fundamental requirements of DDP by letting him get DDP for only part of a ressie. If he is going to plan on that, I'd sure tell him to have a Plan B.

While you might indeed be successful, the advice you received is contrary to the rules. Know there are those that have been successful on adding people and getting keys later but I don't know of anyone being successful adding a person mid stream and getting the dining plan for that person for only a portion of the stay.

Thta's exactly why I said that I "Hope" it works!

I have put the 3 people on the ressie that will be there all week long. If we can add him to the dining plan when he gets there, we will, if not.. oh well!

I would just get the DDP for your stay....

and use those extra table service....for some fine dining

I think the most likely secenario is that they will let him add it, but for the entire reservation time.

There would be no reason to refuse to check him into the room, unless you were over occupancy. How he pays for his meals has nothing to do with his ability to stay in the room.
