DDP and Reservations

We’re going to Disney in July with the DDP. I want to make dining reservations sooner than later, before they book up. When I go to make them (using the site and the app) it asks for a credit card. Is that normal with dining added on, or is it not recognizing that? Sorry if this has been asked already, I looked and couldn’t find anything about it!

They don't actually put anything through on your card, it just holds the reservation. Then when you arrive for the meal just let them know you're using dining plan credits instead. Even when guests are using the DDP, it's not uncommon for people to opt to pay out of pocket for some meals and you don't have to decide which meals to use credits on until you are actually there for the meal.

ETA: I AM curious how this will work for prepaid meals like Hoop Dee Doo, if anyone has insight? Will they charge for the meal and then refund, or reduce our dining credits on arrival?

Thank you! It’s been nearly 10 years since I’ve been there and a credit card was not required at the time of reservations. And I know it said it won’t charge it, but I was still a little nervous. I feel like I’ve seen that before and been charged (not with Disney, but other companies).

I can vouch for the fact that in the last 2 years, the card was ONLY to hold the reservation! So no worries

Completely normal. It's so they can charge the $10/person no show fee if you skip your ADR without canceling by the day before.

I forgot about that! Probably because I'm an obsessive planner so I never make a reservation I'm not 100% sure I will keep LOL

You can hold a prepaid reservation with credits and actually bypass using a credit card. They deduct the credits when you eat there. I honestly don't know what they do if you don't show, probably deduct the credits anyway.

That's what I was hoping! I know HDDR isn't the best use of 2 credits, but I'd much rather use the DDP for it than pay OOP

Normal.
They need one on file in case you don't show up and then they charge $10 per person.

For the pre paid reservations you will have to go up to the check in desk and let them know that you are planning on using your dining plan and they will refund your credit card. We are going to do this on our upcoming trip at CRT because we will have the DxDP.

When I booked CRT last year there was an option to use credits right on the booking page.

Unless things have changed in recent years, for the prepaid meals, if you book before you've added the dining plan to your package, they will charge you the normal price and then you can use credits at the time of the meal and get your prepayment refunded. (You can try to cancel/rebook after adding DDP, but that's risky for hard-to-get reservations.)

If you have the dining plan, you can hold those meals without paying for them on the credit card, and then choose to use cash/credit/DDP at the time of the meal.
