DDP and planning lunches while in the parks?

This is our first trip to WDW in May. We're going for 6 days and on the DDP. We have one 8 year old daughter. I have planned out ADR's for day 1 already, on day 2 we're going to MK for the day.

How do you plan to eat when you are at Magic Kingdom? Do the majority of you leave the park and go elsewhere (to a resort) where you can sit down and eat to rest your feet and fill your tummy or do you just grab something quick using the Q/S meals?

WE have 2 days planned for MK alone. If we have to go to a resort to eat, is the best way to do it to grab the monorail or something else? The sites I have down for favorites are:

pepper market
wolf gang express
earl of sandwich
captain cooks
sassagoula

None of those are even close to MK it seems. So where to for day 2 lunch spot? Dinner spot?

We want to make sure we get filled up and make the MOST of our DDP and not just go for the usual hamburgers and hotdog stuff. We're not at a fair, we want to RELAX and enjoy our meals!!

Thanks for all inputs in advance,

How about sticking to something on the monorail for your MK day? Chef Mickey, Ohanas.. or take to the boat to WL and do WCC

On my MK day we wre doing LLT in MK.

In the MK, there are at least 4 fairly large CS places that serve most people sappetites (if they dont want to waste alot of time traveling)
Cosmic Rays
Pinnochio's Village Haus
Pecos Bills
Columbia Harbor House

There are also some smaller CS locations with less seating, and also carts all over the parks selling cold drinks, ice cream, popcorn etc...

And lets not forget about the bakery, ice cream shop and candy shop, all 3 on main street. Whats not to love there?

I'm trying to the DDP C/S meal credits for lunch. I can't use C/S credits toward snack credits right????

I just kind of feel like maybe our c/s credits how we can use them are already limited. WE don't want hamburgers, hotdogs for lunch everyday. We also don't want to travel all the way over to downtown disney mktplace to get to wolfgang pucks or sassagoula floatworks.

I do like the looks of the Pepper Market. How best to get there from MK? Is it worth the interrupt from the park in order to get lunch?

DDP counter service meal credits just seem like a hassle but what do I know? I have never been to WDW before.

Please help !

for your counter service meal at the MK, you could take the monorail to either the GF or the Poly and eat at their counter service place. They both offer sanwiches and salads, not the usual junk (although they seem to have that too).

For us though, that seems like a bother - we usually enjoy Peco's Bills but if you are looking for something other than burgers, you could try Cosmic Ray's, Columbia Harbour House or even Pinochio's (for pizza).

If your only interested in c/s....I would either stay in the park or hit one of the monorail resorts. Going to Pepper Mkt, or DTD........thats alot of traveling just to have lunch at a counter service place. There are other options in the park besides hamburgs and hotdogs. You could get salads, wraps, pasta, chicken dishes. If you look on allearsnet.com, Deb has all the menus for all the parks......I also think you could find the menus here:goodvibes

Anyway, you will find a place to eat.....The Disney Parks' Top Bananas:banana: want you to stay in the parks where you'll spend your money, so they will give you plenty of options/reasons to stay!

Happy Planning!:cutie:

We plan on eating most of our TS meals at lunchtime and then CS for dinner. That way if we do leave the park, we won't be rushed to get back for an ADR. At MK we chose Crystal Palace and Liberty Tree Tavern for lunches and LTT again for dinner.

Epcot: Le Cellier (dinner), Coral Reef (lunch), and San Angel (dinner).
MGM: Sci-Fi Dine In (lunch)
AK: counter service for both lunch and dinner (that's why we have so many TS meals at Epcot planned).

Cosmic Rays was the best CS of the week for us. All four members of our party were very pleased with what they got there. (We ordered from all three of the available "bays" so got a good cross-section of the available options.)

Hi: We did the dining plan and while in mk went to crystal palace character meal for lunch but we were using a table service at that meal and in the evening used a counter service at columbia harbor house. You can go to dinner at crystal palace if you prefer your big meal in the evening. For us it was a nice break midday. I think we had muffins for breakfast in our room.

We have also enjoyed liberty tree tavern character meal for a turkey and stuffing meal on the dining plan.

Bye,

Deb.

We don't do much counter service. On our MK days this time, we're eating breakfast at the Crystal Palace once, breakfast at 'Ohana (before park opening) once, dinner at Whispering Canyon (Wilderness Lodge resort) the same evening. We also take a break at our resort during the day, so we get something there at the food court if we need to.

Leaving the MK for a counter service meal isn't something we would do. It would take way too much time unless we were going back to our own resort for an afternoon break.

We would get something in the MK and relax there.

I think that you will be surprised at the choices other than burgers and fries at CS...I ve read about ribs, chicken, asian dishes, salads, subs etc... Our plan is to use TS in the evening, and I ve planned them close to whereever we are that day...and lunch will be CS whereever is convienent at the time

Where are you staying? You can always take advantage of your resort CS before going to the parks. We stay at CSR, and eat at Pepper Market at least twice during the week. To answer your question - you have to take a bus to CSR from MK. It will take about 2 hrs out of your day to go eat at Pepper Market, then return to the park. If you really want to eat there, you may want to do so before going to the park for the day. Sassagoula would be good on your DTD day, if you are planning one. Shop, take the boat to POFQ to eat, then hop their bus into the park.

You will waste huge amounts of time if you travel for a CS lunch, You might be surprised at the quaility of the CS food at parks. We only ate a buger once in 8 days and that was a choice. AT MK we ate at Cosmic Rays and had ribs and chicken that was quite good. We also have eated at Columbia house and like the fish there. You can get a good meal at the parks. AKL has really good counter service and it is really fun to eat CS in the WSC. Relax and don't try to make the DDP too tough. It is suppose to be fun!!:goodvibes

If you are in the Animal Kingdom at lunch time on a day or 2, try Tusker House, or Flame Tree BBQ:thumbsup2

CS for lunch isn't really an "event" and not really worth leaving for. MK offers a lot of food other than burgers and hotdogs. And you will be surprised that some offer a good atmosphere. Pinocchio Village Haus looks over IASW and Tusker House envelopes you in more foliage. If you have toy story fans I did find eating at Pizza Planet was more than a meal.

First I looked at the kids menus since I have a DS9 with a big appetite. THen look at where you are at. Are you in Fantasy Land? Frontier Land? Stay close and move on to the fun stuff...
