I feel silly asking this... but... every time we go on vacation, I get really sick if we eat out too much. I can't handle restaurant food, so we usually stay in a condo with a kitchen. BUT we are going to POR and we got the DDP. Eating out for TWO meals EVERYDAY with snacks and desserts scares me to death!!! Does anyone have any ideas to prepare a sensitive tummy besides popping Imodium every day? :confused3

AND... my son inherited his mom's sensitive tummy too, but worse, he vomits...

All ideas appreciated, thanks!

Honestly, probably no way to prepare your tummy. In a case like this I think the DDP is not for you and you'd be cheaper paying for what you actually eat OOP.

There are lots of regular food options out there like fruit, salad, yogurt, even baked pretzels. You can get most of these with the DDP, but I think you'll find in looking at the menus you'll pay less for these items paying OOP.

If you have free dining, then I would focus on foods like these versus rich restaurant food.

That all being said - carry the Immodium anyway. You can never be too safe.

I don't think the DP is for your family.

I would hate to waste food or not get the value out of the plan.

Take the money you would pay for the plan and just use it to buy your meals OOP. I think you all will be much happier if you can just eat what you can handle.

If you have FD then just eat what you want, don't overdo it. You can get desserts packaged to go and use snack credits for packaged cookies and candy to take home with you.

I have a sensetive stomach to and we've done the dining plan the last two trips and I love it. What works for me is to stick to the more blan choices. Anything that has any kind of tenderizer or too many spices I avoid. But I think you can still find something on the menu that might night upset your tummy, you could always check out the menus to see ahead of time. Have a fun trip:)

I have IBS and yes, I have the same problem as you, I believe (I keep Imodium on hand at all times).

My husband and I did the DDP last time we went to Disney, and I have to say, it was really worth it for me. I didn't eat everything on my plate, I ate until I felt full, and sometimes for dessert I would only eat a bite or two. It didn't feel like I was wasting food, I just wanted bits of everything.

I'm not sure if it's the amount of food that is scaring you, or if it's the way it is prepared. If it is the amount, you might be okay going to buffets and getting bits of this and that. If it is the way it is prepared, I would ask the waiter to have the food prepared "dry" instead of loaded with butter and oils.

I only felt ill once during our trip, on our second to last day, and that was after overeating at Crystal Palace the night before. It delayed our start in the morning, but as the day pressed on I felt better. Nothing made me so sick as to keep me in close vicinity to the bathroom, as I'm sure you know the pain as well!!

Good luck with whatever you choose - I hope you feel well during your trip!!

I got sick on our last trip and I do believe it may have been due to eating too much heavy food in a short amount of time. We are still going to do the ddp next trip, but I did some serious re-thinking as to how we'll eat. To start we are doing a couple of 2-credit meals (e.g., CRT). Even though they may not be the best "deal", we decided we'd enjoy a couple of those and take a break from doing a TS meal every day. We are also making sure not to do two TS in one day. Last time we did a late character breakfast and an early Candlelight Processional dinner package and it was too much food too close together in one day. On a similar note, I'm not scheduling my character breakfasts for the morning after a big dinner. I've also scaled back to just one buffet this go around. For some reason buffets don't always agree with me--not so much that I eat too much but rather the combo of many different types of food at once, if that makes sense.

When it comes to CS meals, I try to get fruit for dessert as much as possible and DH and I will share CS meals at times--like if we have a TS lunch we might share a CS dinner and use the extra credit later in the trip for breafast.

Good luck! I wouldn't rule out the ddp all together, maybe just give some thought to a dining strategy that won't overwhelm your tummy.

Thank you, everyone! I lost this thread; almost thought it was deleted... but I found it again, and I'm glad I did!

Very encouraging information -- THANK YOU ALL!

:)

The tendancy is to order a big meal to get "more bang for your buck." Order what you LIKE, it doesn't have to be the steak. There are lighter options on nearly every TS and most CS.

Several times I've declined dessert (esp. at CS) or had a side substituted for it. Frequently the two of us split a CS meal and use those leftover credits for a breakfast or two. We try not to schedule big meals near each other or on consecutive days. At some buffets, we really EAT, at others we go light. Depends on what we feel like.

The DDP can work for you, it's nice to have a major vacation expense taken care of up front. Order what you want, don't try to squeeze the most "value" out of each and every credit. Doing that and ordering what you don't really want to eat is no real value at all. The idea is to make your vacation easy and enjoyable.

One word: Probiotics

A probiotic taken every day will help keep your gut healthy. Of course like others have mentioned....watch what you eat. I never got sick at Disney. One thing that sets my mind at ease....they move so much food so fast that almost everything you get is very fresh.

Good luck and enjoy!

:cheer2:

I don't think you should get the dining plan in your situation. It doesn't sound like it fits your family.

All the talk on the DIS makes it seem like everyone has to do the dining plan to have a good trip but that is not true. Its ok not to get the plan. My family has never done the plan and we have a great time! We eat where we want, when we want, and what we want without regard to making good use of credits.

I agree and I hear you on the eating out!!

there are ways to eat simply at Disney, lots of great cs options these days (had a great pork chop in the land food court - as good as I have gotten at ts!), simple sandwich, soup etc.

the dining plans work for many, but not for all, which is the great thing about Disney, something for everyone!::yes::

I am so glad to read your post, we feel the same way. We have not used the plan because it just seems like too much organizing and work to us. We like to eat at some TS restaurants and sometimes just snack or CS. I really don't like to be restricted or worry about getting my money's worth. We rarely order appetizers, entree and dessert at every sit down meal and I don't like to feel pressured to "eat up". Which I think I probably would of my own accord not because anyone else is making me  .
