We are going for a week in September and hoping for free dining (but not a deal breaker for us if it doesn't happen). We are a family of 4 with 2 adults and 2 kids (6 & 9). So for us the DDP can be a great deal because we like to do a lot of character meals.

This trip we are also doing HDDR and CRT (breakfast). I've read several statements about how it is horrible to use DDP credits for these meals but unless I am missing something it seems like it would be more beneficial for us to use the credits here and pay OOP for a different TS restaurant (not a character meal). We typically like to do at least one TS meal a day but we do have one day where we have 2 booked.

Our none character meals will be Teppan Edo, Sci-Fi and Yak and Yeti (all for dinner). Looking at the menus it seems even with drinks and dessert for all 4 of us (which we probably wouldn't all order) those meals will cost us well under $200 a meal with tax and tip.

Am I missing something? In this case doesn't it make sense to use 2 DDP credits for HDDR and CRT and pay for other meals OOP instead of paying $450 for those 2 meals OOP?

I would say you've done your math and have your answer.

You may want to do the calculations with using the DDP for the kids at HDDR and CRT and paying OOP for them at the other a la cartes and then paying OOP for adults at CRT and using DDP at the other places. HDDR is a good use of 2 credits, but CRT breakfast is borderline.

We went last November and we used the DDP for CRT lunch and paid out of pocket for Sci-Fi dinner. We also do lots of character meals for our 3 kids and the DDP always works out better for us!:)

Good idea, I'll look at it that way too, thanks
