DDP, 10 Days of Reservations Cancelled, and the Stomach Bug

I feel so horrible for you it stinks that you take all the time to make ADR's and then they all get cancelled then getting sick on top of it. You really handled everything alot better than I could have. I hope you get to go back soon and that this time it is magical.

Here is  :flower3: for you! You poor thing! How horrible it must have been for you! The people who were rude to you when you were sick should be the ones apologizing, not you! I'm very sorry that your trip was turning out so poorly, after all of your hard work planning.

I think updating your passes to APs is a great idea! I know Disney is not a cheap vacation, but if you stay at a value resort, it is not too bad. You need to make some happy memories to replace the not so happy ones.

Sounds like you had a Noro virus and likely brought it with you. They usually take 48 - 72 hours to hit you and spread quickly in close conditions like hotel rooms (and airplanes). I had a similar problem this summer and it was awful. Went from feeling fine enough to eat dinner to wishing the bathroom floor was more comfortable. Only good thing is that I was at home at the time.

So sorry that your well planned trip went out the window! I can only imagine your frustration with the cancellations. I would wonder if there was another agent in your agents office who was needing space for her clients dinners.

I know exactly how you feel. We had the same thing happen to us last Dec/Jan and I got the same bad looks and smirks from less than caring people. We were sitting outside at the SAB when our 10yr old son had exactly the same thing happen. I only made it as far as ladies washroom with him, but not to the stall. I had an unbelieveable mess and a terribly sick little boy. Most people seem to understand although some looks at me in total disgust. Hopefully they never have to deal with such a situation.

I caught it too within 12 hrs and the two of us had the rest of the vacation feeling terrible. We too had 14 days worth of DDP in place and two of the four in our family had NO appetite not to mention we were travelling with another family on their first trip. Not fun when this happens on vacation. So sorry about your reservation problem. You really should be compensated for that. I am like you a planner and I would be wild if we arrived this year to find our ressie on the missing list. You sounded much calmer than I think I would have been. pirate:

As time goes on I'm getting angrier over the cancelled ADRs, I can tell you that. I've written to both my travel agent and Disney asking for an explanation and I won't stop until somebody tells me something. It was a very big deal as anyone who plans a WDW trip knows. Getting sick is something nobody could have helped, but somebody cancelled my reservations and I intend to find out who and how.

I spent the day after the Yachtsman nightmare in bed while the family went to Downtown Disney. We had a 4:30 Le Cellier reservation and I was determined to make it. We got there and I was feeling hungry and able to eat. I had the cheese soup and filet with bernaise. It was a great meal though I couldn't eat much of it. The kids both had filet and DH had the strip steak. I don't recall what DH and DS had as appetizers, I wish I'd taken notes but I was a mess at this point. All I really wanted to do was get on the next plane home. DD had the chocolate moose and declared it her favorite dessert of the week. I skipped dessert as did DH and DS. Service was excellent.

The next day we had lunch at Sci Fi. I had the spinach and artichoke dip as a meal and it was very good. Everybody else had burgers and shakes and said they were very good. Nobody wanted dessert.

Our final dinner was my son's birthday dinner at Kona. This was at 8:15 and the waiting area was packed. I had the filet as did DD and DS. I also had crab cakes and they weren't as good as I remembered, but my stomach was still off and I couldn't eat much of anything. DH had the chicken wings and loved them, DD had the salad and enjoyed that as well. The kids had Kona Kones and the waiter was nice enough to bring the happy birthday plate to my son. Service was fine, the waiter was fun.

Next up: Final thoughts and CS.

Unfortunately you may never get the explanation you want. From what I've heard, this isn't all that uncommon. All a cm has to do is punch a number in wrong, or leave your info up when someone else calls in, and your adrs are gone (or changed). I'm so sorry you had such a bad trip.

Obviously our dining enjoyment was marred by the stomach bug. Even when we could eat, we didn't enjoy it was much as we would have. We really like our food normally, but just couldn't eat much. It killed me to throw food away and not even order food I was entitled to under the plan but we just couldn't do it. I still haven't recovered but the upside is, I lost weight while at WDW!

We never felt that being on the DP changed our treatment by waitstaff. I did tip above the 18% at Jiko, Le Chefs, Kona and at Yachtsman, I left extra cash for the waiter before I made my mad dash because he was so nice and extra fast boxing up desserts and calling a taxi when he realized that I was sick.

We left 12 counter service credits and one table service credit behind. DH tried to use the counter service credits for snacks before we left but the cast member in our resort gift shop didn't understand what he was trying to do and I didn't have the energy to go straighten it out. If we hadn't been sick and things had gone according to plan, that wouldn't have happened.

We mostly used counter service for breakfasts at the resort and then at Pecos Bills, Columbia Harbor, Backlot Express and Pirates Piratico (sp). We just couldn't eat most of the time. I also cancelled an ADR at Concourse for this reason.

The DDP as it is now would have been a great value, but in 2008 I doubt I'll use it. I applied my MYW passes to AP's today and I'll use the DDE.

Thanks for reading my plight and commisserating! It was quite the trip.
