I know this isn't the place, but can someone tell me how long is the DDE card good for once purchased?

If 18% is added automatic for gratuity, is the 20% you save worth it?

Your basically saving 2% correct?

They are good for a year. Ours have always expired a year and a month after original purchase. I called a few weeks ago to inquire about this and the CM said if it is purchased after the first of the month it will expire the following month a year later. Have I thoroughly confused you?? LOL!

Assuming you aren't going to leave a tip, I guess your math is correct. Personally, I always tip between 15 and 20%. I've had kids over the years working delivering pizza and washing cars and they depended on their tips to cover their low wages.

It now saves me an extra 2%. I used to give back the 20% discount as the tip. Now I just leave it at the 18% amount they automatically calculate.

Well, it depends on how much you usually tip, I guess. We generally tip 20%, so for us it is a good savings. Also, when we use the DDE we just go with the 18% they calculated.

So, it's a really good deal for us. We love it.

I see it not as a discount, but as a "flat fee" tip. You pay $60 and you never have to pay a tip in a TS again, for a whole year. If you spend $330 you break even....after that it's "free tips".

We have had one for a few years and love to use it. It definately saves us money each year. While the tip thing is aggrivating, I think it hurts the servers more.

No, the gratuity is not applied at the few counter service locations that accept the DDE. Tusker House however is no longer counter service , it is a full character buffett.

I still see the DDE card as a substantial savings. You also get free valet parking for your meals with the card ($10 a pop there), you gget a few other perks and discounts as well as getting a discount at an occasional CS location where you pay no tip.

The DDE card discount breaks down like this...

The DDE Card charges an auto gratuity regardless of your party size.

Party of 2 with DDE
$100 - Food Bill
$20 - DDE Discount
$18 - Auto Gratuity 18%
$5.20 - Tax
$103.20 - Total Bill

Party of 2 without DDE tipping 15%
$100 - Food Bill
$15 - Discretionary Gratuity 15%
$6.50 - Tax
$121.50 - Total Bill



Also, if you're a party of 6 you'll be charged an auto gratuity regardless of how you're paying BUT you will not be charged two gratuities. I'll break it down with and without DDE below for you so you can see it

Party of 6 with DDE
$300 - Food Bill
$60 - Discount
$54 - Auto Gratuity 18%
$15.60 - Tax
$309.60 - Total Bill

Party of 6 without DDE
$300 - Food Bill
$54 - Auto Gratuity 18%
$19.50 - Tax
$373.50 - Total Bill


You'll notice that the tax is less on bills with the DDE, that's because you are taxed on the food bill post discount. The tips are the same because you are tipping on the food bill pre-discount.

Thats a great break down of the savings. I think alot of people get caught up in the tip and 2% deal and its not that simple.
We love the DDE and choose it over the dining plan. Its a much bigger savings for us . Last trip was only 4 days long and we saved over $100 and it was just the 2 of us. We will be able to use our card on 4 trips and I figure we will save around $500 total.. not too bad

Same here. I always feel silly adding an extra two or three dollars to make the tip (as with some room service checks) our usual 20% so we'll save even more this year.

We are thinking about doing this for our upcoming trip this summer. All of these questions got me to doing some math. Here is what I found about discount with the DDE (barring any brain uh, burps in my thinking)

If you normally are a 10% tipper, the savings with the DDE works out to 10.9% between a meal with no discount and 10% tip vs. the same meal with a 20% discount and 18% percent tip. You have to spend $500.00 on food (outside the tip) to break even.

If you normally are a 15% tipper, the savings is 14.8% and your break even point is $352.94.

And if you normally are a 20% tipper, the savings is 18.3% (if you use the 18% tip instead of your usual 20%) and your break even point is $272.73.

Using the DDE, with the 18% tip and the 20% discount, the total savings is actually 16.9%.
