DDE renew question

Could someone help me figure out the answer to this situation?

I currently am an AP holder (expires June 2)
Currently have the DDE card that expires sometime in early May 08.
Can I buy a new DDE card say on May 31st at WDW before my AP expires?
or should I call and try over the phone for a new card right when the old one expires?

Maybe, I just called the DDE number this week and asked a similar question. My AP expires Feb. 28, same day as my wife's. I have a DDE card that dies March 31, wifey doesn't have a DDE card. I asked the CM, if my wife buys a DDE card in Feb 15, on an AP with only 14 days remaining, will the DDE card still last 1 yr. 'Yes' was the answer. I DIDN"T ask if I could buy a new DDE card on MY AP, guessing that Disney would know that I had a current DDE card and would not allow it. Another wrinkle is that neither of us are renewing our APs. Give them a call, my CM was very helpful.

I would wait as long as possible to get the most out of your DDE card. We bought our last DDE card just days before our AP was to expire and used it on our next non-AP trip.

I have no specific knowledge of the "official" answer to your question, but I wouldn't think that there would be any problem with it, since DDE is not just for APs but also for Florida residents & many FL residents use it without an AP. Speaking for myself, I know that my DDE cycles in August, but my AP cycles in January, so I have been "in the gap" myself without any issues...

So do I understand you right, your AP has expired but your DDE card is still active.
