DDE Question

As of August 11, my DH and I will own a home in Florida. We're building it, it won't be done until next year, but we'll have a mortgage that we'll be paying for it, as well as property taxes



This is not a timeshare or rental, this is our home, actually worth double what our NJ home is! (and the taxes are the same...go figure!)

At any rate, what qualifies us for the DDE? Obviously we won't be living in it, as it's not even done, so there won't be a utility bill. Would the tax bill and mortgage or deed be enough?

You will need a valid Florida drivers license or Florida State ID card. They ask you for the number on the ID when you order the card. Since you own property in the state of Florida, you should not have any problems obtaining an ID card.

Next time you are in Florida and have that information on your house you can go by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Of course expect a wait. I'm not sure where they are in the Orlando area but here is a listing for Orange county http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/offices/orange.html

Miss Jasmine is correct! You can get the ID card at the DMV. Be sure to call first, as many of the locations now take reservations to minimize the waiting time in line.

Anne- You also have to get your mail in Florida; because they do NOT send the DDE cards to an address outside of FL, nor will they mail them to a PO Box, and the Envelope is marked "DO Not Forward". I know,as this is a problem for me, since I am a FL resident but am up in VT taking care of my Mom while my Husband is on deployment (and having my mail forwarded). They take 2-3 weeks to get, after calling them up (although the first year I got one, it took closer to 6 weeks). Jill
