Can you order these over the phone or online? Do they mail it to you or do you have to pick it up once in Disney?

You can order it online and it will be mailed to you. Make sure you order it after the 15th of a month. For example, if you order it, say, Oct 20th, it will expire November 31st of the following year. I don't remember exactly where I ordered it, you may have to sign into the passholder site but I really don't remember.

FYI, it's not called DDE any more, it had been renamed Tables in Wonderland.

Edit: Here is some info from Allears

I prefer to get my card when I walk up to Guest Relations at the park we decide to go to first......it works well this way.....Just had to show our AP and a photo ID....

just remember before you order that they changed the rules on them...

While they still give you a 20% discount on the meals... they now add on an 18% gratuity automatically... Frankly that defeats the purpose unless you think an 18% gratuity makes sense for things like buffets...

And if you get it... do yourself a favor and don't let the server know you have it until you are finished and ready to pay... I noticed that the quality of service drops when they know you're going to be tipping 18% no matter what... which makes sense.. why bother to provide service to someone that is tipping not matter what.

I never noticed a drop in service quality. I actually think the servers like the DDE/TiW people better than the DDP people. And the more savvy servers will not put the auto-gratuity on, because there are people like me who always put the discount amount as my gratuity, giving them 20% instead of 18%. Any server who puts on the 18% gratuity now will be giving me back 2% that I never used to take back.

By the way they just changed the name it is now called Tables in Wonderland.

I agree with Briar. Never noticed a drop in service using the DDE (Tables in Wonderland) If you feel the 18% gratuity is not deserved, talk to the manager. We personally have always felt the gratuity was what we would have tipped anyway, if not more.

Great point, Thomas...

I almost always give 20% unless it's very, very bad service, but 18% for buffet is not deserved...that's a 10-15% MAX tip IMHO.

Yet what I'm (pleasantly) surprised with is the full 20% discount on all drinks. That's fantastic. Works at the hotel bars as well.

Also found it gives you free valet at the hotel you're eating at.
(Sorry, the wife is the true Dis-nut so I'm sure that's 2nd hand info to most of y'all! )

I also agree with BriarRose, I never noticed anything negative about my service because I don't tell them I'm using the DDE card until checkout! You only need to tell them about DDP at the beginning, not DDE. Also the auto tip is not a big deal since I generally just gave the server the discount back, now I don't have to do the math and if I want to leave more, I just put a few extra bills in the folder.

Do you get the same type of card that you would get if you had ordered it before your trip? My TW expires the end of this month, but I head back in Dec. I would love to be able to get a new one when I get there, then it would be good through the end of Dec, which covers more trips for me each year.

We plan to get our TIW card this month. I agree, it doesn't make much sense at buffets; on this next trip, however, we are largely avoiding buffets except Princess Storybook at Akershus (although the price also includes an entree with regular table service). Soon after, in my trip in November, we'll be using it during a free dining promotion with my parents, since it will discount alcoholic drinks by 20%.

(Duck, I couldn't help but laugh when I saw your picture of your wife's trip binders over the years! That is really funny. The most recent one is enormous! Are you sure it wasn't one of those hollow treasure books where she is able to hide your Disney room keys inside? j/k! I admire her dedication to planning your trips.) :)
