DDE Card - some questions

Because we are going this year on October 23rd, we are not eligible for the free dining. I was wondering about the DDE card.

Do you have to be an AP holder to purchase one ? Can you just live in FLA and purchase one without the AP card ?? If so, what are the chances on having someone that lives in FLA purchase the card for you - can you use it ?? Not trying to "cheat" here just seeing if there are other options for purchasing dining. If we could purchase the "free dining" we certainly would but it's not even available for us to purchase it at this point.

Thanks for all your help

I am an AP holder and I hope that this helps you

I know that when I ordered mine that I had to give them the number off my AP pass.

I think FL residents have to show proof of residency.

I am an AP holder also. I do have the DDE card and I have used it on my 2 trips already this year. (and will use it in October) An id was asked for a couple of times. So I would not suggest "using" someone elses.

Hope this answers your question.

not that you mention that--i was asked for ID at over half me PS's--I had 10 of them--was asked at almost all of them

We used it in May (AP holders from WI, not FLA here) and DH had to show his ID each time. We loved it! It was so great to get the checks and have them so much reduced. It really did open us up to a lot more restaurants than we normally would have tried.

It didn't take long for it to pay for itself ($50 with AP discount) and we are looking forward to using it again.

(And having an AP for it is worth it - you get other discounts as well. The 10% off at World of Disney alone is excellent!)

Another AP holder here who purchased a DDE card with the AP discount. We used it during our April trip and almost each time we used it we were asked to show ID.

If you purchase it too close to your trip date they will fax a letter over that indicates that you are a DDE member and to extend the discount to you, only after verifying your ID.

Our DDE card has already paid for itself and we will squeeze a bit more out of it during our October trip.

I purchased my DDE with my voucher number with no problems. My DDE card didn't arrive until we returned. I was so grateful to have read about the DDE here at the DIS! It paid for itself in two days! The other 5 were bonus days! I loved getting the adjusted check each time. It is definitely worth it! ;)

You will need to be an AP holder or FL resident to buy a DDE membership.
ID/proof of AP will be required for purchase. The card will be under the person's whose name is on the ID.
And I think the card/membership can be revoked by Disney if it is not used under their terms and they are caught. (Non-FL resident using a FL resident's card.)

What are the chances on having someone that lives in FLA purchase the card for you - can you use it ?? Not trying to "cheat"
That is not the impression I got. But hey, :confused3

The two ways to be eligible for a DDE card are to be an annual passholder, or a Florida resident. If you're not either one of those things, then you can't get one. A friend who lives in Florida will not be able to buy a card for you, because you are required to show proof of residency to buy one. The cards look like credit cards, and have the cardholder's name printed on them, so if you had a card with someone else's name on it (the "friend from Florida" who would have bought it for you), then you won't be allowed to use it if you're asked for I.D. (which you very well could be).

You do not have to be *both* a Florida resident and an annual passholder, just either one.

Hope this helps!
