i'm planning on purchasing a DDE card when we arrive at WDW in late april. this is my first time purchasing one and i know that now you don't have to pre-order them -that they're available at guest services. but being the paranoid planner that i am, i'm afraid i'm going to get there and be told that that's incorrect. has anyone had any problems purchasing the DDE card at guest services? are the only things i need to do so my AP and an ID?

thank you!!! :goodvibes

I know we picked ours up at DTD, but I am pretty sure you can buy it there. You need to be a FL resident or an AP holder. And IIRC it's not all Guest Relations, just the main ones at each park and DTD. FWIW.

I think you can purchase DDE at any GS....just not the ticket booths.

Yep, just bring your AP and photo id.

For anyone with an old DDE, bring that along. Speeds up the process.

Is the DDE worth it for a 5 night stay for 2 adults?

We will probably do Signature meals (CG, Le Cellier, Fantasmic Package &,Boma), maybe 2more TS and the rest CS.

You just have to do the math yourself really....what you would order, if you would order drinks or wine, etc..

BTW Le Cellier and Boma aren't signature restaurants. Neither are any DHS restaurants except Brown Derby. Doesn't rally matter though unless you're planning on using a DDP.

It's only good at limited CS...the food courts of the values and POFQ, Artist Palette and the main counter service spots at AK>

I bought one at the GS at MK a few weeks ago. I just showed them my current AP. I did need to buy it with a credit card (although I'm sure cash would have been fine too). I happened to have a check with me because I had originally planned to send the renewal in by mail and they wouldn't accept the check...but I just put it on a card. It wasn't a problem. Took about 10 minutes from soup to nuts.

I also got mine at the MK the first week in March; no problem at all.

My previous DDE card expired at the end of October, and I decided not to renew it. I was at WDW solo for 3 days in mid-November, and then for 4 days at Thanksgiving with my family of 5 and my in-laws. I could've kicked myself for not having gotten it for that trip, but I didn't know that they started offering it at Guest Services just before my first Nov. trip. I would've broken even by the end of the Thanksgiving trip if I had inquired! I finally bought the DDE card at Epcot Guest Services (inside the park) on my 4-day January solo trip, at the same time that I upgraded from a 10-day non-expiring park hopper to an annual pass.

In December we got outs at the back gate of Epcot. It was very quick and easy. All I had to show was my ID and AP. Also they will let you charge it to your room if you're staying onsite.

Thanks for posting this ~ I was hoping I could get it at the IG :)

Yep, that's where I picked up my new one too. GS is the booth on the left as you walk up. I walked up to the one on the right without even looking at the signs!:rotfl:

If you have your old DDE card even if it's expired, take it with you. It expedites the process. Probably 2 minutes tops from "soup to nuts" as emma'smom said. Love that expression and don't hear it often.

Glad you mentioned this ~ thanks! :) I still have my expired one but I'm sure I wouldn't have thought to bring it with me.

You'll have to figure it out for yourself, but most likely it is. Take the cost of the card ($65?) and divide it by 20% to find your break-even point. If you spend more than that at table service restaurants (drinks and tax included) you'll come out ahead. We find that a couple of meals, with wine, at the signature restaurants will easily do that and everything else is savings.

We have our voucher and plan to exchange for the AP when we arrive at STudios, can we buy DDE at the same time?

Yes, you can. I bought both at the IG last month.

CJ, whom did you call? DDE office?
