DDE and separate checks

I know with the DDE it says everyone has to be on the same check, but do you think if we asked really nicely they would be willing to do separate checks and still apply the DDE discount to both? We are two families of four and it would just be sooooooooo much easier than having to figure out who owes what. We split the cost of the AP & DDE so the benefits apply equally to both families.

Thanks!

We were able to get our CM at Kona Cafe to split our check, with no problem. We had him split it 3 ways (3 couples), and he gave us all my DDE discount.

Kona was the only place we tried this, but I bet it wouldn't be a problem anywhere if you just asked nicely!

I recently read on the thread about 'nice things you can do for strangers at WDW' that at the Biergarten you can ask the CM to apply your DME discount to the other people at your table and the CM did it (after talking with his manager). I plan to try this next week when I eat there. I also have a PS for 7:10pm at Rose & Crown one night and plan to ask for a patio table to view Illuminations. If I get it, I plan to tell the CM at the podium that if anyone wants to share the table with me I'll be happy to do so, since I'll be solo. If someone takes me up on it, I plan on applying my DDE discount to their tab also.

There's 12 of us DISers meeting for dinner at Trails End in Aug.
I'll be using my DDE card for 9 ppl who I will be cruising with next August

Technically the DDE can only be used for one check. At many locations they will accept it for split checks but that depends on time of day, day of week, and phase of the moon. Also depends on what the manager has to say about it. You can ask, but if they say no you have no appeal.

We were there last week with another family. A lot of places willingly applied the DDE discount when we were spliting the checks.

Where they would not what we did was have the server put one adult's from the other family on a check with my DH, & my DS. Then they would put my meal on the other family's check. That way the prices were pretty much even.

Since both DH & I are DDE members (they give you one extra person free), we could use the DDE for both checks.

It could be complicated. But as long as you and the other family are willing to split it like that, there should be no issue. The prices for the adults' meals were pretty much equal, and a few dollars either way did not bother anyone.

Our plan worked especially well at character dinners where there was a set price per person anyway.

We will be traveling with 2 other couples, as we are not about to pay for everyones meals for the whole trip, will we all need to pay cash for our share or will they let us use our room charge for each couple?

Thanks,
Bev

Up until March I would have said YES. I even had nice CM servers split the checks without even being asked.
Since mid March I have not had ANY WDW restaurant willing to split checks AND allow the DDE discount to all checks. I have even had them say Yes up front, and refuse to do it later.
The change in policy seems to be when the restaurant managers get their fingers involved in the process.
From what I have experienced the servers are willing to do the split checks/discount until it gets to the step of the manager allowing the discount to go through the system.
And unless the WDW restaurant check system has changed recently, it CAN be done.

We did this back in December, BUT I think that the management is cracking down on things since more people have the discount.

As for splitting checks, we get the discount first, and then give the server our credit cards and ask to put so much on one, and the rest on the other.
