As I had to reject an offer on our house, it's time to go to the lawyer for anticipated breach of contract. Ugh. Just one more hurdle in post-retirement year.

I don't know the laws there, but rejecting an offer shouldn't be breach of contract. You don't have to accept offers and until you do, nothing is binding.

Another thought is that some off-site hotels offer free shuttles to the parks.

I've heard some good things and bad things regarding off-site hotel shuttles. Mears, if I remember, operates a regular shuttle that goes around to Disney Springs area hotels....could be wrong, but I thought I've read that. So, there are options.

This is one reason why I'm thinking of staying off-site. If I can get the same perks with less money being spent, why not take advantage. As for parking? I'm not getting a car, so that doesn't apply to me.

Another thing to consider is how you use the resorts.
If your the kind of folks that hit the parks early and stay out until after close, and especially if you do that every day so as not to miss anything because you might not get back for a while... Well in that case the onsite resort is really no more then a hotel anyway. Theming aside and onsite amenities aside, if it's just a bed and a shower and you're not taking advantage of those extras, then there's not a particularly compelling reason for the extra outlay.

We've done a number of trips that included split stays. part on site and part off. That's a compromise that does give us some time "in the bubble", but also helps with the expenses.

We also generally drive and I've been down there enough to know my way around. We'll use the onsite options where it makes sense and do our own driving when that does. That won't work for everybody, but it is another part of the calculus when we're trying to put together an expedition down to the world.

I like Disney and and would love to take the family multiple times, and the only way to do that is staying off-site if the price is right. So, having said that, anyone ever stay off-site before? Where did you stay, and did you like it?

We have stayed offsite our last 2 trips, last time was at our "vacation share" on I drive. It was ok, not sure how much we saved, and driving back after a full day in the parks sucks... And I think parking was either 25 or 30 a day in the parks so you have to take that off the amount you save on your room. And we drove down last time so no rental car.
This will actually be my first onsite stay and we are flying so I don't have to worry about transportation at all. Even if it takes me an extra 10 minutes its worth it for me not to have to deal with it.

So, after a chat with our builder, he said the delay was "finding subs".

We have had some of the same issues around here with my contractors (commercial construction) the skilled trades are so hard up for guys that they are going to jobsites and grabbing the landscapers and carpenters and offering them $10/hr more than whatever they are getting paid now to drop their tools and get in the truck.
Its leaving alot of companies short handed. And the housing boom is making it even harder, new fly by night guys popping up all the time and pulling all the day labor guys.

I'm hoping to stay on-site the first time, and will use a travel agent who continually looks for discounts.

I did, just told her what we wanted and she took care of the rest. Even got us an extra day for $200 less than the original quote, when a special came out. Its been great.

So far, none near us, nor are there likely to be. Mostly farmland in and around Winnipeg.

Exactly! That is something to consider. For instance, I like some of the activities they have at the resorts for kids. Now, my DD may be too old to do some of these when we finally get down there, but the activities exist for use. I do like to have my time at the resort to relax and soak in the atmosphere, so I'm considering that as well.

I'm in New England so no driving for me, so I'd be stuck using shuttle buses, which doesn't bother me too much. I am, however, wondering if I actually would save money....something I'd have to really consider and research.

That's who I used. Probably wont ever book for myself again especially if I'm staying onsite. The only thing I had to do was book airfare.
