DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Happy Sunday from a hot and humid KY. Pop up showers in the forecast but the damage is already done. I put $200 of insecticide on the hops Friday AM to control Japanese beetles and then by mid-afternoon we got hit with a torrential downpour. I could never farm for a living. Big plan for the afternoon is to check what I have left in the flex spending account if anything and get it spent before midnight. We can always use Ace bandages and first aid kits if nothing else.

What variety are you growing? I tried several times but had no success.the rhizomes never really took off.
Perle, Crystal, Tettnanger, Nugget, Cascade, Wye Viking, Willamete, Northern Brewer, Ultra, Columbus and Galena. Cascade is by far the most productive. Bines have reached the top wire on the trellis at about 19' already. It is also the variety that is the least valuable per pound.

Morning boys from a glorious London. Town Hall presentation to Lego peeps today, so spent most of the morning remembering stuff for that. Busy weekend with MLB and Harry Potter, both of which were cool. MLB was a bit of a slug fest, it looked like the pitchers were struggling with the bowl atmosphere or the new surroundings, or had been on the lash for the night. It was a short field, but there was a ton of walk as well. I was struggling to remember a 12 run, 17 hit, hour long first inning with 2 pitchers retired. Cubs/Cardinals next year, so that's the one for me.
The difference in knowledge in the crowd between this and NFL was marked though. NFL you can sit there and the guys around you can pretty much call the game, this seemed a lot more touristy. Maybe because of the teams, or it was the first one.
Harry Potter is amazing, and I'm not much of a Potter fan. If you are ever over on our small little island, I would highly recommend it.

Have a great day fellas.

I'll be curious to get your reaction to the End Game re-release. I've read the extra end credits scene is not that good. Maybe not worth it?

I for one find it hard to believe that DIsney would throw a cheap re-mix out there just to grab some extra cash.

So, some bit of some good news. Spent all morning at work on my retirement plans. So, here's what I got. I have 286 months and need 300 to retire for early retirement. We have another 12 month contract, which leaves me short. I am however eligible to purchase a year of service. So, I requested a quote and we will go from there. Sure, I expect it to be in the $20K range. :scared1:

But, I'd be eligible for retirement almost right away, and then could go in June next year. It's certainly not what I planned to do, but I won't have to deal with the uncertainty any longer. And, if an election goes the wrong way, I can file the PWK and be retired in a month. Just have to wait for the mail and then decide from there.

Well, it's good to have a plan. I'm sure all of us would prefer plans that don't cost us $20K, but at least it's a plan.

Yankees/Sox is a bucket list game, but hopefully the prices will collapse tomorrow.
Harry Potter Studios in London on Sunday as a surprise for the kids, as well as a BBQ I have been let out of at 515 to get to the ball game, so a pretty packed weekend now.

Sounds like a pretty awesome weekend.

I don't think my daughter would let me skip it anyway.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Most of us in the "Mericas" should hopefully be enjoying some time off and holiday this week so should be a good one for most. Saw TS4, meh, ok but we did not think it as good as the reviews built it up to be and not close to the first 3 in my opinion. Some cute scenes and some laughs with some new characters but overall just o.k. for us.
Looks like England vs USA in the World Cup semis this week. I'm going to through my support to Dan and the Lionesses on this one. Jeff, maybe you should cheer for the USA???

Nice weekend you had there and good to hear the boy was in a better place this weekend with his Mum.

Me and DS did enjoy getting to see it one more time on a big screen. The extra stuff was not worth seeing it again but to us the movie was worth seeing one last time as it is one of my DS all time favorites. Plus, we want this one to beat the Avatar global box office as Avatar had a re-release as well.

I would have thought Columbus would be the cheapest but I guess there are more acres in the country devoted to growing cascade.
How does the region you grown in affect the characteristics of your hops? like cascade for instance, are the aroma and flavors comparable to hops grown in washington?

I still can’t believe you’re not coming over to see the cubs. ;)
Family trip for 5 of us is being planned for Aulani next year so considering cost of that gonna have to pass on the London Cubs game. We are looking at going the week after the games so between too much flying and the cost of Hawaii :scared:

Kaboom! And Happy Canada Day! It was cold and rainy at my place today so that but a damper on our barbecue plans. So we did the next best thing and watched Toy Story 4. I enjoyed it but really thought 3 was a fitting end to the toy story. Wife and daughter left the theatre in tears.

Oh, if anyone is keeping up, oldest DD got back from her trip to the Dominican Republic last night. Everything went fine although I think she came to realize that a week sitting on the beach isn’t all it’s cracked up to be when you’re doing the same thing every day
Jeff, maybe you should cheer for the USA???
That might just work.
God save the Queen.

went to Kindergarten at 4
Elementary was 1-4
Middle school 5-6
Jr. High 7-8
Sr. High 9-12
Ok it seems like we all call it something different.
She’ll be 12 and going to school.

Nah, that’ll never happen. Just like they’ll never start charging for Extra Magic Hours, resort parking, or FastPass

Over 7,000 acres of Cascade produce between Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. There is some slight variation in alpha and beta acids, as well as other compounds but not much. Genetics is more important than environment. You wouldn't want varietal differences from one region to another or your recipe for your particular brew wouldn't taste the same depending on your source.

Afternoon, all.
And Happy Canada day to my fellow Canucks.
I'm celebrating by working.

Watched it the other day and enjoyed it.

Wife and daughter seemed fine, I might have had something in my eye.

Glad she survived, and... yeah. I don't make vacations where I'm sitting doing nothing all day. To each their own, but... not for me.
