DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
And number 3 was last night. Our center director passed away last night after a relatively brief battle with small cell lung cancer. He tried one week of chemo and radiation after his diagnosis but decided he would rather do without and feel better than have it and be very ill only to have the inevitable put off for an additional 6 or 8 weeks. We didn't always agree, but at least he was willing to listen to other opinions unlike his predecessor.

Hope this is the end of the death notices for a bit.

Well, yesterday was the last day of school for DD11. She did well on her report card. It was also her last day of elementary school and Grade 6 (US translation: sixth grade, UK translation: no idea...you guys are a bit messed up with M levels and all that).
So she is off to Junior High next year (I think some of you may call that Middle school). I survived one daughter going through it, I just hope I can survive the second.
She did very well with her report card. She struggled a little at the beginning of the year but really improved and had a good report in the end. That's all I can ask for.

Wow, sorry to hear this news. I hope it's the last.
Definitely makes you think about your own life.

It could very possibly come round that I am part of Theme Park construction work, which would be a bit cool. Here's hoping.
That would be very cool. You'll have to keep us posted.

Morning folks.
Weekend coming up. I need it. 16 hour shift today to end my week.

Morning chaps from a humid London. Lego Towers very excited today, the family bought Merlin, so we own all the Legolands.

That would be cool! Fingers crossed.

Year 6, the last year of Juniors, before they go to Senior (High) School. We do SAT's at this point and GC's at 16, A levels at 18. And then University (College) for the degree at 21. Job done.

Good job to DD, and good luck to you getting her through High School. Not looking forward to that.

Right. That's it. I'm calling it. Work week over. Everyone out. Last man standing after a night of Poolside Iced Tea's at Beaches in the Grand Floridian gets to take Princess Leia home (again). And let me tell ya, if she yells at you "Into the garbage chute, flyboy" you better dive right in. Just make sure the walking carpet is out of your way.

Have a great weekend chaps.

Morning Boys from a cloudy Douglas NB. Nice to be home after another 4 time zone trip across the country. Few delays yesterday to make it an even better day, total time from leaving the hotel in Yellowknife to walking in the door at home was about 22 hours. Good times.

Going to check the office to make sure it is still there and start the long weekend. Probably nap and watch some soccer this afternoon.

Congrats to all the accomplishments I scanned through over the last few pages and condolences to those of you dealing with losses.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Finally, the end of the work week after a WDW trip and am I ever ready for the weekend. We have TS4 tickets for tomorrow for the 3 of us and the updated End Game release for Sunday along with taking in-laws out to celebrate 66th anniversary. Other than that just hanging out at the house and grilling on Sunday. DS has a bug so hopefully it clears up so he can enjoy the weekend. Have a good weekend gents!

Sorry to hear of the losses, and yes they do seem to come in 3's
Made it to Thursday, and home early enough to watch England vs Norway. David Beckham is cheering the English women on to victory.

I'm hoping to make it 3 positive ones for me - (1) special session, (2) governor's election, & (3) one more contract renewal. I'll go with early retirement - Sept 2020 or Jan 2021 - if I can survive.
Keeping in my thoughts, hope everything works out for the best

Paid off the mouse today and received our magic bands so it looks like we are going to the world again officially.
Nice - Jealous :)

That sounds cool, best of luck to you :shamrock:

Congrats to DD on the report card results! Condolences to you on the Jr High / Middle School years with a daughter. As CJ and I used to laugh at being able to see you guys go through the daughter teen years "me and Mike are gonna pull up a couple of lawn chairs, sit back and laugh" - CJ (we miss you CJ)

Welcome Home. But remember, business travel is fun and is not work or anything .....................

Here we have middle school from grade 6 to 9 and high school from 9 to 12. As for the daughter thing, I've said it before and I'll say it again...It's good to have a son.

Wow, I'm so sorry. They say bad things happen in threes; let's hope this is the end for a long time.

Right. That's it. I'm calling it. Work week over.
I wish. 3.5 hours down 12.5 to go.

Watch out for the one eyed monster in the garbage chute!
(No really, watch the movie, it's in there)

I'm hoping to see TS4 this weekend too.
I'll be curious to get your reaction to the End Game re-release. I've read the extra end credits scene is not that good. Maybe not worth it?

So, some bit of some good news. Spent all morning at work on my retirement plans. So, here's what I got. I have 286 months and need 300 to retire for early retirement. We have another 12 month contract, which leaves me short. I am however eligible to purchase a year of service. So, I requested a quote and we will go from there. Sure, I expect it to be in the $20K range. :scared1:

But, I'd be eligible for retirement almost right away, and then could go in June next year. It's certainly not what I planned to do, but I won't have to deal with the uncertainty any longer. And, if an election goes the wrong way, I can file the PWK and be retired in a month. Just have to wait for the mail and then decide from there.

Still on the green side of the sod so I shouldn't complain. Definitely makes one evaluate life choices as none of these individuals were even 60 yet.

I hope you get your wish and can convince your wife to relocate. Best to enjoy your life while you can as tomorrow is promised to no one.

Agree whole heartedly. I'm not near 60 yet and don't want to retire. But, I don't want to be miserable any longer in a low paying, dead-end job that could go any minute.

Morning folks.

Hang in there.

Does the carpet match the drapes?

Really? I have fun when I travel, albeit mostly just local stuff.

Watch out for the one eyed monster in there.
Where is it?

That's what she said. :lmao:

:rotfl: I’d forgot about that bit.

That's what she said. :lmao:

For 50 quid(ish) Lady K has signed off me going to see the Yankees Red Sox game at West Ham's stadium tomorrow. The scalpers are going to take a bath on this game, everyone left it alone and now tickets are at about £3 more than face value, which makes me happy as they are absolutely gouging everyone on the NFL London tickets. I'll buy a ticket tomorrow, I don't care if I'm up in the gods, Yankees/Sox is a bucket list game, but hopefully the prices will collapse tomorrow.
Harry Potter Studios in London on Sunday as a surprise for the kids, as well as a BBQ I have been let out of at 515 to get to the ball game, so a pretty packed weekend now.

DS has been sent to bed with a flea in his ear, according to the missus he's been a right d-bag all afternoon, so she told him his fortune and sent him to bed.
Happy families. :rolleyes1
