DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Happy Tuesday or maybe not. This two job thing is really pushing my limits, especially as how I don't want to work one job. Plus, even though I'm supposed to work 20 hours at the new gig, I flexed off a week for Spring Break vacation and still have another 7 hours over time. I may try it another few months, but I don't think it's manageable at this point.

I imagined drinking was involved. Am I right?
.

No. The inlaws are good Baptists who never go to church, so drinking is prohibited. :sad2:

Sorry to hear about the accounting. I had to pay taxes above what was withheld from my paycheck. It stinks.

As a person: a great historic warrior.
As a critter: it’s some very fine eatin’
As a beverage: it’s a perfectly acceptable rum delivery system

Anything that can be all of those things (and provide rum in process) is a good thing.

.

That is excellent commentary there. Bravo.

That’s a somewhat different uniform then what’s in use by the wait staff where I generally dine out

And then there’s the “on set” part of it.
Do you work in the film production fields or have I missed another interesting conversation here?
Sorry to disappoint you mate, I was just mucking about with Darcy and was stretching the analogy of the ideal life. There is however a running reference to budgie smugglers and myself and Norm at the Poly in July though.....if that helps.

Yes it was. She sautéed the tofu in olive oil, put assorted spices and extra garlic on it but it still did not look appetizing.
There's a saying over here that the French use so much sauce and garlic to cover up the taste of inferior meat. That sentiment seems appropriate here.
One of our best days in the UK was when we camped out on the green of a local pub in Shropshire. It opened in something like the 1850's and the same family bought it soon after it opened.
Sounds great mate, there's nothing finer on a summers evening. I don't think I've ever been to Shropshire.
Don’t you dare!
You type it up just the way you’d have said it were I standing there.
I’ll work through it and be a better man for the learning.
Thanks mate, I was already sweating about referring to West Ham and "soccer" in the same phrase. Back to normal it is then. Cushty.

Just as we thought our elders and betters couldn't balls up this Brexit thing more, we now have a General Election to go with. 2 months of more BS and acrimony. Darcy, I'm applying for that coach role you put up.

Rob, so now that you vomited and washed your eyes out, just know Dan will be solo in his budgie smuggler - unless he buys me enough drinks.

:rolleyes1:rotfl:

OK Rob. Seeing as we are falling out with continents or countries on a weekly basis and I need to keep one good relationship going, I believe the correct translation for the aforementioned "Budgie Smugglers" in the lands previously owned by His Majesty is "Banana Hammocks". I trust this brings this matter to an acceptable conclusion.

I hereby promise not to use any more vaguely moody British slang, and will turn my full american filter on my keyboard on.
Keep using the Brit slang and humor, your stuff cracks me up on a regular basis. Just trying to keep Rob from an emergency Optometrist visit..........
Happy Monday. A long day at work. Rain cancelled HS tennis match, so I was able to play tennis with my youngest while oldest went to swim practice. I bought a lotto ticket and am ready to win and stop all this working. I know there is no chance, but it was a $1.00.
If ya win I'll split the $1.00 with you?
‘Morning all…
A bit dreary down here today, but it’s still rather quiet in the offices and that’s a good thing.

Getting into the better times of the year now…
Anniversary this week…
the young’en should be back home in a couple weeks…
headed to Da’World a couple weeks after that...
Things are lookin’ up.
I'd say you are hitting a real good stretch right there. Not much better than that list

Sorry things may not be working out for you with the PT gig. Any chance of paring back the PT hours or days?

You were at Disney.
nothing is unmanly.
I just quoted you when I booked my Rose Hydrating body wrap at Senses spa in the GF.
I refer to buying lottery tickets as “paying my stupid tax”
I’m a bit behind on those payments considering the amount of “stupid” that I can potentially bring to the party and probably ought to go out a pay a bit of that tax myself.
I ain’t gonn’a win either, but someone will.
If ya win I'll split the $1.00 with you?

Someone told me that lottery winnings in the US are taxed at a ridiculously high level. Is that true?

I just quoted you when I booked my Rose Hydrating body wrap at Senses spa in the GF.
Make sure you add on the cucumber exfoliant pedicure option.
Oh, and drink heavily before arriving.

Someone told me that lottery winnings in the US are taxed at a ridiculously high level. Is that true?
They'll surely take a good bite out of it.
Uncle Sam will treat it as regular income and tax it at whichever bracket rate the amount throws you into. That can be as much a 39.6% (of course this also assumes you haven't hired a good accountant with some of the winnings to find the loopholes that the folk wealthier than I use to get around parts of that). Then your home state may also want a cut and that amount will very from one state to the next ranging anywhere from zero up into the mid-teens percentage wise.

That's not just P/T, but something that you also care about.

You had to do that sober?!?!
Lord help you.

Thanks mate, I was already sweating about referring to West Ham and "soccer" in the same phrase
Not being "American", I'm pretty sure you should never be using the word "Soccer" for any reason or in any context.
Imagine if any of your neighbors were to hear of it. They might just smuggle in a case of Bud Lite off the black market and forcibly wash out your mouth with that foul venom.

Now, we can't have that.

I'd say you are hitting a real good stretch right there. Not much better than that list
Just typing it up made me feel considerably better.

Rob, so now that you vomited and washed your eyes out, just know Dan will be solo in his budgie smuggler - unless he buys me enough drinks.
Good to know.
I'd like to think that there isn't enough alcohol on earth to actually get you to commit such an atrocity.

If ya win I'll split the $1.00 with you?

Sorry things may not be working out for you with the PT gig. Any chance of paring back the PT hours or days?

Sure, if I win, I'll give you $.50. :lmao:
Seriously, I'll buy a home in Golden Oak and you can stop by for some fun.

As for the PT gig, I don't know. I have my formal review two days after my probationary period, so I guess that review has already been completed. I like the job, but there is just too much work to be completed in 20 hours, and I don't actually count phone calls and texts I get throughout the week on "off days". The only way to cut back on it would be to assign my tasks to someone else, which if that was a possibility, might have already been completed.

Someone told me that lottery winnings in the US are taxed at a ridiculously high level. Is that true?

If the jackpot is $37 million, I'll gladly accept half that amount. Somehow, I cold manage. No chance to win though, since I wouldn't blow all the money in the first year.

I hope that you can find a way to make that work better for you.
That's not just P/T, but something that you also care about.

You had to do that sober?!?!
Lord help you.

Good to know.
I'd like to think that there isn't enough alcohol on earth to actually get you to commit such an atrocity.

True. It's good to find a side job that you like, are good at, pays decent, and really matches up with what you want to do.

Yeah, sober. Sometimes I smuggle in the flask.

But, there is enough alcohol for me to commit such an atrocity. I've done some things in the past, allegedly.

Evening Guys.

Had a busy day today. Had to finish up and submit our annual funding submission to the government; complete waste of time as not much changes each year. Also had a nice 60 minute conference call just for fun. This evening is sport heaven - Canadians/Rangers, Raptors/Bucks and Blue Jays/Red Sox. The clicker is getting a work out tonight.

Nothing like having an election called 3 years early. You wouldn't be the guy from the other side of the pond to be hired under that program Dan. A few years ago our provincial fencing group hired a coach from France.

Tax-free on lottery winnings here but they get you on the interest off the winnings. I guess the thing to do would be to stuff the winnings in the mattress.

Morning Gents. Busy week for me (even though the girls are off school for Easter break). The big dance competition they work towards all year is on this weekend. When I agreed to put them in it, I was thinking it would just take a bite out of one weekend, not too bad. I wasn't thinking of the endless practices and dress rehearsals they have all this week. Every. Single. Day. And there's only two performances. Three minutes each. :sad2:

Looks like everyone had a nice weekend for the most part, except maybe Norm. Did you guys hear that big crashing sound in Chicago this weekend.............. Geeezzzz the Hawks are killing me and to top it off I am having to listen to all the Nashville locals who don't a blue line from a red line, a hockey stick from a sickle gardening tool and who can;t even tell me what seed the Predators are in the playoffs. Going to game 4 Thursday night here and have not by any means given up on the boys - do or die tonight though me thinks.
The Hawks have been having a rough time. I'll be rooting for them Thursday. At least their fans deserve the win, unlike the Nashville crowd.

I bought a lotto ticket and am ready to win and stop all this working. I know there is no chance, but it was a $1.00.
I keep buying them every week. I really pay a hefty stupid tax because I go for a $7 ticket.

Or, add some extra u and make it Canaduian Brituish Slang.
That's the best kind of slang.

Morning guys, busy day today. After not hearing from the accountant, she finally called me back. About the news I expected so neither good or bad. Have to drop off a check at her office this morning. Wish I was rich so I could avoid paying taxes.
You know the saying about the only sure things in life...
I did luck out on my taxes. I filed last weekend and got a bigger refund than I expected. I don't mind if the Canadian government wants to give me back more money, it's very rare that they do. It's not enough to go see Mickey, but anything helps.

Sorry to hear it's not working out. There comes a point in life when family life and having time for yourself is simply more important than money. I'm actually at a bit of a crossroads myself in my career. I'll let you guys in on it when I have more to report, but the short story is that I've been offered a position working in my hometown, but for much less money. The benefit is that I will be home with my family for a few years at least, no more traveling overseas for work. The down side is less money (and even longer getting back to Mickey). Not sure what I'm going to do yet, but I'm really feeling quality of family life is going to win out.

There is however a running reference to budgie smugglers and myself and Norm at the Poly in July though.....if that helps.
Oh dear lord, and just when that image was out of my head.

This evening is sport heaven - Canadians/Rangers, Raptors/Bucks and Blue Jays/Red Sox. The clicker is getting a work out tonight.
It was fun. I locked myself away in the basement. The girls were watching the Voice or something upstairs, so they were happy enough to not have my sarcastic remarks about bad singers to deal with.

Top O the Mornin Dads! All good here except my Blackhawks, Cubs, day job and future SIL side of the family regarding wedding. Won't get into the wedding drama other than to say I feel bad for the young man having to put up with a series of nonsense and it is also affecting DD. Blackhawks - guess the great run had to end at some point with a playoff clunker, Cubs - plenty of season to go, day job - what ya gonna do. Family is healthy and lots of folks with way more serious trials than we have so keeping all in perspective. Have a good one gents.

Ahhhh, the dance recitals / competitions, one of the things the DD did when she was young that I don't miss. Hang in there and if some of my wedding stuff shared here does anyone good, maybe it will help you enjoy the dance competition when comparing the two :rotfl:

Thanks for the well wishes regarding the Hawks, they need all the help they can get. Since 2008/2009 it has always taken a team 7 games to take the Hawks out of the playoffs but this team is nowhere as deep as they have been in the past.

Morning Gents! Happy Hump Day.

Realitively quite day today. Had a meeting with people that I like to work with and spending the afternoon at a charity hockey game some politicians are organizing. Should be fun.

Some good games last night. Being a Habs fan I was disappointed but all the games in this series have been fun to watch.

I don't mind the Voice sometimes, most of their singers are pretty good. When American Idol was running I only watched the audition shows to hear the really bad singers who thought they were good.

Happy Wednesday. Another long week of traveling to campus, with another next week. Everyone's last minute crap ends up in me doing more work. :furious:

At least there is tennis tonight.

Been there and done that. Not sure which is worse - dance recitals or swim meets. I'm going with dance recitals, unless your child is the lead and gets to be on stage for a significant part of the performance. Otherwise, all the practices, driving, money, for the 10 second "live action". :furious:

That is a challenging situation. Good luck. I'm not there with this decision. Yes, I am out of the home additional time on Sunday and Thursday night, but the workload is just over the amount of hours. And, I'm really efficient, so it's not me wasting an hour to talk to people at work about how busy I am at work. Plus, I've got one in full on teenage girl mode, and she doesn't want to have anything to do with either of her parents.

The Cubs have 162 games. I think there is still time left in the season.

They might just smuggle in a case of Bud Lite
I'm looking for translation, but all that comes up is Beer. That can't be right. I've tasted it.
But, there is enough alcohol for me to commit such an atrocity. I've done some things in the past, allegedly.
I'm sticking you down as a "maybe"
Tax-free on lottery winnings here but they get you on the interest off the winnings.
Yep, same here. I could cope with that.
The benefit is that I will be home with my family for a few years at least, no more traveling overseas for work.
Before we've had our London layover meet up? Hey ho, fair enough. Sounds good that you will get more time with the family unit. Good luck with the choice mate.
The Hawks have been having a rough time. I'll be rooting for them Thursday.
I couldn't give less of a monkeys about hockey, but b*gger it, I'll get behind Mike. GO HAWKS! BLACKHAWKS NATION!
Being a Habs fan
I couldn't give less of a monkeys about hockey, but b*gger it, I'll get behind Darcy. ALLEZ LES CANADIENS! NATION DU HABS!

Evening boys. Running around like a blue ar$ed fly at work, it's getting stupid. I can't be in 2 cities at once.

Morning Guys.

Haven't done a TBT for awhile. Here is one from 2013, probably the last time we were the same height. DS was 12 at the time.

Afternoon chaps. Last day of work today for the week as we are heading to the kids school this weekend to help with packing up as DD will be done and all that stuff has to come home now rather than a storage unit plus we need to get DS organized with storage unit. Heading out a bit early today as well to go to the Hawks game - lord we need a win so I ain't gotta listen to the Nashville fans.

I will join in on the TBT - here's from Christmas 2011 ........THEN

upload_2017-4-20_11-18-20.png

NOW, Christmas 2016 - looks like we added another one ??

Happy Thursday. Last day on campus this week, and looking forward to the weekend, for what little there is. I've made the decision to leave the 2nd job as I don't see a reduction in duties. We have a meeting next Thursday. I won't storm out like in some movie drama, and will help transition to the next one if needed.

I'm sticking you down as a "maybe"
.

Yeah, that's always a good plan.

0-3 is a way to comeback from, but it ain't over til it's over.
