DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
What a difference a day makes!!!

I found out from the staff at the church that the pastor hasn't been following his own rules by moving scheduled events to other locations and bumping some entirely altogether. The long story made short - that was why I lost the beach week in June. So, we made another change to the vacation plans.

Spring Break

April 2-7 All Star Movies (5 day park ticket)
Sun - drive down & DHS
Mon - MK
Tues- AK
Wed- Epcot, Via Napoli
Thurs- MK, Tony's
Fri - drive home

All FP+ are made. Didn't get some of the times I normally would want, but did get all the rides. DW and I have done this so many times that we can plan out our times and walking distance easy enough. I was hoping to get CRT for breakfast, but that is an improbability this close out. We'll snack & drink around the world at Epcot, Flame Tree BBQ at AK, DW has Landry's card for AK if necessary. And, I don't like to make ADR on first or last day as I like the time open.

And, we are still going to the Poly in July those same dates. My oldest will do an aptitude test at the Johnson O'Conner Foundation in Atlanta, and then drive to Poly. I booked Ohana dinner, Kona dinner, and Kona breakfast. My plan is not to leave the resort.

Oh yeah, and I'm still working on that beach trip for October. Stay tuned....

Very well put. My oldest is nearly 17 so she'll soon be on her own for vacations. I still have some years with my youngest. But the cost is getting close to saturation point for many, I think. It's been 2.5 years since my last trip and if it wasn't for this dance school trip that came up for this summer, I would still be in a holding pattern.

Sounds fantastic. I would love to stay at the Poly. You can't go wrong with Via Napoli. Looks like you'll just miss DW and DD who finish their dance school trip on July 12.

Too bad. Your family could have stopped by the Poly. We go at least once a year. The DVC points really helped, and we got a great deal on the resale buy in. If I use my points right, I can get two trips in one year every two or three years with my points, so there is only food or ticket price. Then, we do a room or combo deal every now and then like this year. It is probably not the best use of $, but one we both agrees to prioritize.

DIS DAD MEET OPPORTUNITY!!!!
We get to the Poly on the Weds Night. That's gotta be worth a beer or 2.

Sounds like a plan. So, you'll be there the whole time we are? Definitely a meet up at the pool bar or any bar.

This is a very positive attitude. I'll try and remember that next time I'm calling our back 4 a bunch of donkeys... Did you enjoy the Spurs/Liverpool game?

Liverpool really took it to Tottenham. There were two back line errors (donkeys) that lead to those two early goals, but they kept it up for the rest of the half. It was fun to watch. The last few Tottenham games I have watched, it seems like they just kept attacking in the 2nd half, and it was just a matter of when they would win. Not this game though.

That is too bad about cutting it short but you still were able to carve out a pretty nice vacation. Love both the ADRs and you can't beat the Poly as your place to hang out. Have to stop by Trader Sam's while you are there.
?

Hey Dan. CJ said for you to buy me a beer at Trader Sam's. :lmao:

Evening All,

We're back from the AAA JV Boys Provincial Championship with a silver medal; the boys had a tough 97-93 loss to our cross-town rival. Lead most of the way through the game, led 16 at the half but those other guys had an amazing 2nd half to take the lead with about 3 minutes to go. DS fouled out late in the 4th as did their other Big. The bigs had a tough weekend with the Refs. The championship was hosted by a school in an area that doesn't see much of the top calibre ball and the refs were a bit out of depth at times. They had a tough time dealing with the size and speed of the bigs on the top teams.

The car accident that happened on the first morning was caused by an 80 year old man. On of the players in the accident didn't play at all on the weekend as he was a bit banged up but otherwise OK.

So now we hunker down and wait for the blizzard that has been forecast for over-night and tomorrow. I'm guessing it will be the 3rd snow day since last Wednesday.

Congrats on the silver. Good luck on the snow storm.

Got the vacation booked.

July 15-19 All Star Music Resort, 1 free QS meal a day per person, 4 day ticket
July 19-22 Polynesian Resort & Bungalows

The plan is to arrive late Saturday, theme parks on Sun, Mon (Epcot), Tues, & Thurs, with resort time at the Poly Wed & Fri. So far, ADRs booked for Via Napoli and Kona Cafe. I'll miss the extra week at the beach, but we'll try to get it for Fall Break.

As for the other, yes, Disney is increasing their prices. At some point, they will price me out of the market. I only have a few more years with the oldest dd still in the household, so my costs will decrease after that. However, I worry about other families, including my own children, who won't be able to afford to go as often as we have. We have made 20 trips to WDW since we were married in 2000. We have lots of great memories.

Sounds like a good trip.

It will be interesting to see how much it affects multi-day tickets, they mentioned the one day tickets and annual passes. We haven't been since 2013 and I was hoping to be able to take the girls back this summer but it is not looking good right now. We have the time share on I-Drive but once you figure in parking ($$$$) everyday and the time you lose driving to and from; a All-Stars stay still looks pretty good.

Stay warm, we are set to have our 15th record high temp of the year today down here.

Morning Guys,

Afternoon chaps, welcome to the working week. Short week for me, off from Weds to spend some touristy time with the kids.

Sounds like a plan. So, you'll be there the whole time we are? Definitely a meet up at the pool bar or any bar.
Yes mate. Get in on Weds 7/19 late, and then there for 2 weeks. Thurs will be Pool Hang day due to jet lag. Let's aim for Thursday if you're about. Definitely a bar.
Hey Dan. CJ said for you to buy me a beer at Trader Sam's. :lmao:
As one of the OG's I can only comply with CJ's wishes. It's a bit like the Stonecutters in the Simpsons. 1 beer it is. Domestic. And I don't mean English.

Gooooooo Lions!
Again, it actually wasn't terrible.
This doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement, Jeff.

Have a good one, all the best from this side of the pond.

Congrats on the silver. Good luck on the snow storm.

Nice looking trip Norm. I'm jealous you get to do these multiple trips to WDW.

Silver was nice, they worked hard for it but it was tough to see them come up just a little short.

Sounds like a good trip.

Stay warm, we are set to have our 15th record high temp of the year today down here.

I'm looking forward to record breaking temps in Florida during the first week of March.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Pace picked up here over the weekend I see. DD is home this weekend for a few days working as she only has actual classes / clinics 3 days a week. Went to the tux place for the wedding and through the mall as both ladies are looking for shoes to go with the dresses........... fork / eye. Actually not too bad and we had a nice dinner out Saturday and a nice one at home Sunday with the inlaws. Here's to another week closer to DaWorld.
Well, today made for a better week. Just booked 1 Br. Std. View at the Boardwalk for 1-3 to 1-10. For those interested and haven't seen, DVC and AP links to register for the races are open.
Nice, gonna have to start thinking about 2018 options at some point.
OK mate, it's all over. The bar is open. Who's in? After the last couple of weeks, I'm buying. Let's start with a cheeky Patron and then an IPA. I'm in the mood for mixing.

Hope everything is well chaps, beer, bacon, pixie stuff and best wishes from the very overworked London bureau. Hopefully catch up over the weekend.
Sorry I didn't show up, Hawks game was on and hear your bar doesn't get the game. Sorry about the work headaches and hope that other than that all is good.
Happy weekend gents. Had a crazy Friday night. DW and I watched the Trolls movie with DD9 (Bluray came out Tuesday), it actually wasn't terrible. I decided to prepare for the night by trying a Captain Pepper (or is it Dr. Morgan?) - Captain Morgan Spiced Rum mixed with Dr. Pepper, if that isn't obvious. One of the guys mentioned it on the Disdads Rumcast (I think). It sounded disgusting but just crazy enough to try. Again, it actually wasn't terrible. So not a bad night. My goal now is to find the Kraken I see you guys post about on FB. No idea if they sell it at the local liquor store. (Thanks for the inspiration Mal
Sounds like a nice low key evening and will have try that Captain Pepper.
Here we go again. Orlando Sentinel reports on admission prices going up tomorrow (Sunday).

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/trav...ld-ticket-prices-increase-20170210-story.html
Every February, though the increases were not too bad. I still look at what you get for the $, especially DVC APs, and when you think about it the price is kinda reasonable for what ya get when you think of a pro sport game or movie prices.

Got the vacation booked.

July 15-19 All Star Music Resort, 1 free QS meal a day per person, 4 day ticket

I hear you about the prices and am so greatful we did DVC. Seems like it is gonna get herader especially for young families to be able to go to DaWorld like we did. Getting that unless your DVC and can go a couple of times a year to take advantage of things like APs and TIW it's just too much. I remember the days of the package deals with room, tickets, dining plan staying at the All-Star resorts or the WDW / DCL land sea packages - where'd those deals go?

Well done gents, I sample a few things for you and report back my findings
:rotfl:Apparently theres a bit of a shortage, demand is spiking in the Miami area.

Ahhhhhh...... the life of Norm. Seriously real nice trips you got planned there - nice to have only 3 months between trips.

Hope you went to the store and got all of your french toast supplies. Looks like you may be stuck for a minute or two.

It's crazy up here! Storm had been upgraded to about 60 cm (2 feet) with winds clocking in at 100 KmH. Of course DS decided he wanted to walk to a friends place. He made it but it took a little longer than usual.

Edited to add: forecast is now up to 80 cms by tomorrow morning.

Another beginning of the week. Golf clap.

I'd completely forgot about the Mets. Checked the Yankees, but they were away. Mets/Braves it is. The next night is the Marlins but I can't make it. Thanks mate. All booked.

When are you going to NY?

I left NY before they opened up the new ballpark so do't know the lay of the land and sight lines. Long subway ride to the game but it can be entertaining. Enjoyed going to afternoon games.

Sounds like things have calmed down on the planning front. So much fun shopping with women for shoes. Nothing else better than that. "You have a choice, Chinese water torture or shoe shopping?" "Bring on the water, anything but shopping."

Every February, though the increases were not too bad. I still look at what you get for the $, especially DVC APs, and when you think about it the price is kinda reasonable for what ya get when you think of a pro sport game or movie prices.

I hear you. My Seasonal, Weekday Passes are about $250. One year I got about 20 days of park touring so it was a great deal. The thing that bothers me the most is three of the parks are construction zones. I'd rather wait until the new stuff opens. But, I can still have a great time at the World without hitting the parks. Besides, touring Commando Style for me is long gone.

Afternoon Dads, I'm just preparing for Darcy's storm to hit here tomorrow morning. I am not looking forward to it. I need to get out to the liquor store tonight to look for that Kraken, maybe that will help get me through!

I got out this weekend to enjoy the weather before it turns nasty. DW and youngest DD went out for a short hike, built a fire and had a wiener and marshmallow roast. Yes, this can be done even in winter :p

As for NY, taking the kids to see the Lion King, for a Disney fix. Why we couldn't do that in the London theatre that is half an hour away from our house, Lord knows, but I suppose a Broadway show is something you should do at some point.
I saw Lion King in NY a few years ago. The music and costumes are great of course. I was actually a little bit disappointed with the main cast, particularly the guy playing Simba. Hopefully it's changed up since then.

Are you back home for a while now?
Yes, until early March. I thought of you again when I was in Heathrow, but I had a 5 hour layover from 7:00am so not really prime pub time.

Bonus Disney trip! Sounds great. What do you think of Tony's though? I was only there once about 6 years ago. I had chicken parm and was not impressed, I found the marinara sauce very bland. But there are mixed reviews and others enjoy it.

This doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement, Jeff.
It wasn't meant to be. I think I'll stick to mixing my rum with cola (I prefer Pepsi, but Coke will do).

You're not making me look forward to tomorrow morning, Darcy! They have forecast between 30 and 45 cm for St. John's. Oldest DD has a shift at the grocery store tonight. She's expecting to be bombarded with crowds out getting storm chips!

3/31 to 4/8. Hopefully the rain will hold off.....Afternoon game is the Marlins the day before we leave, so DW pulled a veto on me. When did you leave NY?
and it is suppose to get worse as we go through the day.
Whoa. That's a lot of snow. 19 days to vacation must help though.

Good man. Lovin' the idea that Rum is an emergency ration. Don't forget the cheetos. and the jumbo bag of Peanut M&Ms.
I think I'll stick to mixing my rum with cola (I prefer Pepsi, but Coke will do).
If you find the Kraken, try some decent Ginger beer, like Goslings or even better, Fever Tree. That's a lovely drink. Cheeky bit of lime always helps.

On my jack this evening boys, the in laws are hosting DW and the littl'uns, so watching Glengarry Glenn Ross. Have a good one.

I think we are pushing the 60 cm mark, hard to tell if it is still snowing with all the blowing it is doing right now. The southern half of the province has been closed, police just closed the roads to everyone but emergency vehicles.

I just did a cleaning of the driveway Jeff and it was easy to move, it was nice and light. But then again I'm not in the City and can blow it pretty much wherever I want.

Thoughts of a nice sunny vacation are dancing in my head Dan.

Thanks. It's been awhile for two trips to WDW in the same year.

Looks like your having fun in the snow. Stay safe.

As for Tony's, we haven't been since our honeymoon there in 2000. So, we weren't all that impressed with it. But, our girls have never been and there weren't all that many options at this point in the trip.

Ahh, the life of Norm. Very nice arrangements and you keep the Poly trip. I think you were a winner on that deal.

. But, I can still have a great time at the World without hitting the parks. Besides, touring Commando Style for me is long gone.

Well, 3 vacations is nice, but you still have great weather and topless beaches. But, you can feel bad for me as we will be doing 5 consecutive days of parks. I'm in a lot better shape now, but 5 days is still quite a challenge.

Morning Guys,

Another storm day here in the Great White North for DW and DS. I made it to the office but man there is a lot of snow down and you don't want to venture off a main street. We had 80 centimetres yesterday (that's about 32 inches). Lots of stuff still closed or opening late and there is another storm coming in Thursday but I'm not sure how much is in that forecast.

Come on March 4th!!!!!

It's hitting us hard this morning, started about 7:00AM. Schools are closed of course. I think nearly the entire city is closed except the hospital. It's supposed to keep going until tomorrow morning, snowfall prediction upped to 60cm now. Will not be fun to clear away. Hopefully it will be light like Darcy had. I wish I was out in the country so I had lots of room to blow it. I'm in the suburbs and at this point the snow banks on the lawns are huge.

It's supposed to keep going until tomorrow morning, snowfall prediction upped to 60cm now. Will not be fun to clear away. Hopefully it will be light like Darcy had. Stay safe my friend. Are you getting the winds that we had or just the snow?

Morning yall.
Hope this post finds our Northern dads safe and well stocked on Bourbon to get through the snow.

Remember to tell your significant others happy valentines day today; I was the good boy this year and got DW's flowers and Chocolate Strawberries a few days ago so I could miss the swarms today. I also made gifts for the DD's so I am all set.

Winds are crazy too. It's officially a blizzard so I think that happens when the winds hit hurricane strength. Worst thing is that I'm at the hospital now with DW who is having minor surgery (nothing serious) but we've been waiting for it since last June so really couldn't miss it. Drive here was fine at 6:30am I'm just hoping the drive home afternoon is okay.
