DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Happy Friday gents! Looking forward to the weekend, that is all, carry on...........

Happy Friday! It's been a long crazy week and looking forward to enjoying the weekend. It's supposed to warm up here so I'm looking at getting a head start on the Spring yard work.

OK mate, it's all over. The bar is open. Who's in? After the last couple of weeks, I'm buying. Let's start with a cheeky Patron and then an IPA. I'm in the mood for mixing.

Hope everything is well chaps, beer, bacon, pixie stuff and best wishes from the very overworked London bureau. Hopefully catch up over the weekend.

Don't mind if I do, time for a drink!

I'll be there in about 9 hours. Wait up for me.

I've got a feeling we might just be getting going.

Happy weekend gents. Had a crazy Friday night. DW and I watched the Trolls movie with DD9 (Bluray came out Tuesday), it actually wasn't terrible. I decided to prepare for the night by trying a Captain Pepper (or is it Dr. Morgan?) - Captain Morgan Spiced Rum mixed with Dr. Pepper, if that isn't obvious. One of the guys mentioned it on the Disdads Rumcast (I think). It sounded disgusting but just crazy enough to try. Again, it actually wasn't terrible. So not a bad night. My goal now is to find the Kraken I see you guys post about on FB. No idea if they sell it at the local liquor store. (Thanks for the inspiration Mal @IbeAbitGOOFY )

Just announced that Wishes will end on May 11 being replaced by new show "Happily Ever After". So upcoming trip will be one last time to see Wishes.
A bit sad to see Wishes go (I won't get to see it one last time), but all things must come to an end. At least they are putting a new fireworks show in its place, not just chopping it like MSEP.

Well, today made for a better week. Just booked 1 Br. Std. View at the Boardwalk for 1-3 to 1-10. For those interested and haven't seen, DVC and AP links to register for the races are open.
Sounds great. I would love to stay in the Boardwalk area.

Having some coffee before heading outside to dig out. Wouldn't mind it so much if the temps hadn't dropped to around -10F.
No fun. Luckily that storm missed us. Just a few flurries here today. Turned cold again though. +8C/46F yesterday, -5C/23F this morning, but sunny with no wind, so actually kind of nice (yes, I know you guys in the south cringe at those temps, but it could be much worse for a Canadian winter).

Almost time to head for basketball provincials before it snows again.
Good luck to Declan and the team.

Yea Dan, you've not been around lately but you sure better get here today to close the week out and save the rest of us seats at the Pub.

Was thinking Dan got lost in the pub last weekend...

Happy Saturday. Made a run to Florida City this morning to the nearest Cracker Barrel. Florida City is about half way to Key Largo and it took a lot of willpower not to just keep driving south. Had the Uncle Herschel, two eggs, hash-brown casserole, choice of meat (had the pork chop) and biscuits with sausage gravy. Fat and happy right now.

3.5 hours later and we have arrived at the hotel. Time for some dinner and then a couple of cool ones.

First game tomorrow at 11:45.

Good luck to him in the tourney.

Enjoy the weekend. May the yard work not be back breaking. I also have to get out there today.

That was a good one. Wonder what the odds are of that ever happening?

Happy Saturday. Played tennis this AM with my group and youngest played with her wanna be boyfriend. Now, watching Liverpool vs Tottenham, and if I remember right, Dan hates both teams.
Liverpool is up 2-0.

On the vacation front, it looks like our two week vacation this summer just isn't going to work. It's nice getting a discount, but that means moving dates is extra slow. So, I think we are going to do a split stay resort/ parks followed by a few days at the Poly with no parks.

Wishes going away will be missed, but I'm sure Disney will have a good replacement show.

I like the breakfast with the chicken fried chicken. I'm stuffed for hours.

Here we go again. Orlando Sentinel reports on admission prices going up tomorrow (Sunday).

Well, maybe I can all that stuff booked today then.

Declan and his buds open their championship chase with a 86-52 win. The only real drama happened before the game. The assistant coach his wife, daughter and two players were in an accident between the hotel and the gym. Everyone seems OK but their vehicle, a Nissan Armada, appears to have been written off. Some old guy went through a light and nailed them on the passenger side. He then drove off, leaving his license plate behind. Police stopped him a few minutes later and the first words out of his mouth were "I think I just hit someone."

Gee, do you think?

Evening boys from a -1 and snowy London. Got back from West Ham and put the kids to bed. We went down 0-1, got back to 2-1 up and then gave away a sloppy goal in the 95th minute. Our manager got sent off as he had an absolute fit on the touchline as it went in. Just further ticks him up in the fans estimation, he didn't need much help as he is one of our old players. Me and DW are watching when Harry met Sally, as we are in NY in 6 weeks. The lack of my activity on here is due to work people being complete clowns, no-one wants to get their hands dirty. Superbowl was a good one, despite the winners, could have done with the sleep though.

and if I remember right, Dan hates both teams.
:worship:Well remembered. Hows the new car working out buddy? Are you pleased with it?It sounds like the new job is a bit of a shlep right now, hope you are getting some well deserved "Normtime" in.
So, I think we are going to do a split stay resort/ parks followed by a few days at the Poly with no parks
That sounds nice. Where do you think you'll do before the Poly?
Just booked 1 Br. Std. View at the Boardwalk for 1-3 to 1-10.
Those dates look familiar.........we will definitely try to stay Epcot side very soon.
"I think I just hit someone."
Translated as " I am in a galactic pile of sh..." What a tool for not stopping. Congrats to Declan though on the win. How many games has he got?

I dare you to post that on the Disdads fitness FB. That mate, is the breakfast of a champion. But....didn't you have Pork Chops last night?

I am thinking of taking George to Rangers/Flyers game at MSG. I take him to West Ham, but this is not my manor. The only other option is the Knicks/Wizards, but the Knicks can't hit a Cow's **** with a Banjo right now, and I'm not paying the thick end of $250 to hear fans boo. Any advice? Not for the Knicks obviously, they are way past helping.

Have a great Saturday all, and hope all is well in Disdad land. Having a cheeky couple of Willets tonight, due to the fact there is only Coors in the house.

They have another game in about 4 hours to determine first in the pool and the schedule for tomorrow's cross-overs. Once this weekend is done, the JV high school season will be done and he'll be in to the age class stuff. They will have 3 or 4 of their guys combining with some of the grade 10 players from the other high school in our city to create that team. It should be pretty strong given the fact they the two schools are the top two teams in the Province right now.

Was that the team they beat and then just lost in the final? Sounds good for Declan, playing in an elite team.. good luck to him this evening buddy...

Team they beat this morning was the lowest ranked team in their pool. The team they will combine with is the team that beat them last weekend. They have had battles all season long with all the games except one being within 7 points of each other.

Nice one, will follow the updates on FB.

Evening boys. Had an impromptu small trip with the family this morning and capped off with a great lunch. Got some stuff done around the yard today and even managed to change the oil in the riding mower. It was a nice day, in the mid-60s and tomorrow is supposed to be a bit warmer. All in all, the weekend is going great.

I want to try the the Kraken with Dr. Pepper. They call it the Doc OC. Call it whatever you want, I think it might be tasty.

A bit sad to see Wishes go (I won't get to see it one last time), but all things must come to an end. At least they are putting a new fireworks show in its place, not just chopping it like MSEP.

Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but think they're starting to phase out the large-scale fireworks shows like Wishes. I'm thankful that I'll be there in 21 days and plan to watch it...at least once, hopefully twice. [/QUOTE]

Here we go again. Orlando Sentinel reports on admission prices going up tomorrow (Sunday).

The never ending attempt by Disney to grab more money. They need to stop cutting things while increasing costs. It took them how long to finish Avatar and how long to get Rivers of Life working enough to present (notice I didn't say working correctly)? How long will it be before DHS is fully running again and when are they going to finally update Future World. Not trying to be a downer. I love the place....A LOT and will likely make a big effort to go at least once a year.

On the vacation front, it looks like our two week vacation this summer just isn't going to work. It's nice getting a discount, but that means moving dates is extra slow. So, I think we are going to do a split stay resort/ parks followed by a few days at the Poly with no parks.

Well, that's truly a bummer.

Got the vacation booked.

July 15-19 All Star Music Resort, 1 free QS meal a day per person, 4 day ticket
July 19-22 Polynesian Resort & Bungalows

The plan is to arrive late Saturday, theme parks on Sun, Mon (Epcot), Tues, & Thurs, with resort time at the Poly Wed & Fri. So far, ADRs booked for Via Napoli and Kona Cafe. I'll miss the extra week at the beach, but we'll try to get it for Fall Break.

Drunk driver or tired driver? Sorry to hear about the coach and family. Congrats to Declan & the team though.

Sorry to hear about West Ham, but they tied. Better than a loss. I'm hoping the job turns the corner soon.

I don't know what to think about the fireworks, but they did add the Star Wars fireworks at DHS, and it is a good show. I don't think it is as long as Wishes, but does incorporate Star Wars music and quotes.

As for the other, yes, Disney is increasing their prices. At some point, they will price me out of the market. I only have a few more years with the oldest dd still in the household, so my costs will decrease after that. However, I worry about other families, including my own children, who won't be able to afford to go as often as we have. We have made 20 trips to WDW since we were married in 2000. We have lots of great memories.

I'm not sure I like rum mixed with Dr. Pepper, it wasn't terrible. Maybe I'm too used to mixing with cola. I still need to get out to the liquor store to look for the Kraken.

Very well put. My oldest is nearly 17 so she'll soon be on her own for vacations. I still have some years with my youngest. But the cost is getting close to saturation point for many, I think. It's been 2.5 years since my last trip and if it wasn't for this dance school trip that came up for this summer, I would still be in a holding pattern.

Sounds fantastic. I would love to stay at the Poly. You can't go wrong with Via Napoli. Looks like you'll just miss DW and DD who finish their dance school trip on July 12.

Tally ho Chaps from a dreary London. Umming and aaahing about what to have for dinner. Need to get a wiggle on as the shops shut at 5.

Ah, so you weren't lost in the pub for the week.
NY trip sounds great. I've been there a few times. Any plans, shows?
As much as I would have liked to have done the Keith Richards week long pub bender, it wasn't on the cards. I was trying to meet Paul Lawson as well last week, but that didn't come off from both sides. Bloody work.
As for NY, taking the kids to see the Lion King, for a Disney fix. Why we couldn't do that in the London theatre that is half an hour away from our house, Lord knows, but I suppose a Broadway show is something you should do at some point. We've been a few times to NY like you, it was used to be the back end of skiing in your fine country. We're going to either the Knicks or the Rangers or maybe the Nets, as I haven't been to the Barclays Ctr yet. Need to check the schedules. Apart from that we kind of just like mooching around NY. Might try to get to Coney Island this time. We always plan to and never end up doing it. Plus, I get to break my Pizza embargo. And break it I shall.
Are you back home for a while now?

Sorry to hear about West Ham, but they tied. Better than a loss
This is a very positive attitude. I'll try and remember that next time I'm calling our back 4 a bunch of donkeys... Did you enjoy the Spurs/Liverpool game?

Morning guys. More spring cleaning today while the kid goes to the beach. Could be worse.

That is too bad about cutting it short but you still were able to carve out a pretty nice vacation. Love both the ADRs and you can't beat the Poly as your place to hang out. Have to stop by Trader Sam's while you are there.

Just keep winning, just keep winning. Good luck to him and the team today. Tough about the accident but if everyone can walk away, that is all that really matters.

I dare you to post that on the Disdads fitness FB. That mate, is the breakfast of a champion. But....didn't you have Pork Chops last night?

I proudly am able to confirm that I DID have a pork chop for dinner AND the following morning. As to posting to the fitness group, I'll pass. Most of those guys are fanatics and it could be uglier than some of the rowdier discussion groups out there.

I am thinking of taking George to Rangers/Flyers game at MSG. I take him to West Ham, but this is not my manor. Or you can wait a couple of months and catch a Yankee or Mets game.

I am getting more and more cynical about Disney. Didn't renew my passes partially because they are doing all the rebuilding. I used to love going to DHS and Epcot but now they are just shells. I'm sure it is a temporary thing and will start going back but for now I am content to use DVC to lounge around and enjoy the resorts.

Pork chop maybe?

Pork chop maybe?
:rotfl:Apparently theres a bit of a shortage, demand is spiking in the Miami area.

I'd completely forgot about the Mets. Checked the Yankees, but they were away. Mets/Braves it is. The next night is the Marlins but I can't make it. Thanks mate. All booked.

Evening All,

We're back from the AAA JV Boys Provincial Championship with a silver medal; the boys had a tough 97-93 loss to our cross-town rival. Lead most of the way through the game, led 16 at the half but those other guys had an amazing 2nd half to take the lead with about 3 minutes to go. DS fouled out late in the 4th as did their other Big. The bigs had a tough weekend with the Refs. The championship was hosted by a school in an area that doesn't see much of the top calibre ball and the refs were a bit out of depth at times. They had a tough time dealing with the size and speed of the bigs on the top teams.

The car accident that happened on the first morning was caused by an 80 year old man. On of the players in the accident didn't play at all on the weekend as he was a bit banged up but otherwise OK.

So now we hunker down and wait for the blizzard that has been forecast for over-night and tomorrow. I'm guessing it will be the 3rd snow day since last Wednesday.
