DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Wet 2323, Dry 1717 for a total of 4040 and a difference of 606 which happens to be the phone area code here. I'm sure the conspiracy folks will be all over numbers like those. It was a good turnout relatively speaking for a special election that had one question. The 18-24 crowd came out and voted wet which is interesting since half of those arent of legal age to purchase alcohol which is a whole different issue. The county has only been dry legally but not functionally. The locals here that are older than I am talk about being able to buy alcohol in town since they were teens. This will just really hurt the business for the county line liquor stores in the surrounding counties and the bootleggers will be limited to selling to underage kids. The state will take most of the taxes and fees and it won't impact economic development significantly.

So does that mean a load of liqor stores will be springing up? Or will it just be through the supermarkets? This is fascinating, as we have absolutely nothing like this over here.

Happy Thursday and Friday is in sight. Today will be another long day, but I can see the finish line.

Thanks again.

As for the vote, I agree with your assessment and I doubt Gordon Ramsey will be opening a fine dining restaurant in your town that liquor sales are open. I'm sure other areas deal with similar issues, but I notice it more here. There are some communities in KY that have no chance of growing, yet people still cling to them. My town has about 70K people, but unless you work for the hospital or factory, there aren't that many opportunities.

Looking for some advice. DW noticed a wasp nest just underneath the eave of our house (2 story). The obvious thing is to buy the spray and kill the buggers. I took care of one years ago but it was down on the patio at ground level. I can't reach this one without getting on the ladder, which makes me nervous if they swarm when I spray the nest. I suppose I could professionals (hmmm...what's that we've been talking about? more $$). Just curious if any of you dads have had a similar situation.

Continued good thoughts that the situation gets better. I know how tough it is to be out of town when things are not going well at home. Hang in there.

Thanks again. How big is the nest? If you have those cans of spray, you can have enough distance and soak it thru and there shouldn't be any issues. You can kill most of them in the nest before they leave. If you knock it down and then try to spray it, then there are more chances for them to escape. They build their nests in my fence all the time. I check it weekly as I didn't want my kids to get stung. They don't get to very big that way, and it is fun to kill them. I did find a huge nest in my newspaper box under the mailbox one time and they had hatched. I quickly walked back inside, grabbed two bottles, and killed all of them.

Top O the Mornin Dads! We head out tomorrow so only one day left in the office. Packing for DaWorld is so much easier than a cruise as you tend to go through a couple of sets of clothes per day plus all of DWs shoes for dressing at dinner :scared1: Why can I have 1 pair of shoes for dressing up and she has 5 or 6? Oh well, if thats my biggest issue right now guess I'm doing pretty good. Will stop by tomorrow to check in before I basically go radio silent here for several days.
Thanks guys for the thoughts and prayers. Things seem to be working out ok. It stinks being out of town and not being able to handle things.
Good to hear things are for the better and I swear that every time I am out traveling something happens or I come home to some type of cluster. Safe travels.

Had same situation needing a ladder so I put on a hoodie sweatshirt and gloves and one of those sawdust masks. Sprayed the thing and got down off the ladder real quick leaving the ladder there for a while and all was fine. Didn't even need the Tim Allen approach as none of them came out of the nest while I sprayed. Good Luck.

Morning all...
One car in the shop today; estimated I get it back this afternoon for about $300.
Not great, but not so bad.

Our young'en got a practical civics lesson this week in the form of jury duty. Served on one criminal case so far and waiting to hear if he has to go back in for any other cases this week. They first plucked my name out for that at just about the same age and I've been called about six times thus far. We'll see how his track record goes.

Seems to me there's a bit of a double standard in relation to "adulthood" and "drinking age". No longer an issue for us one way or the other, but our boy doesn't much care for the taste of alcohol anyway no it was never a big deal to him.

I see you've already gotten good feedback on this, but some of the wasp sprays out there have enough pressure to reach up a story or two. You might be able to get to it from the ground.

We ended up with a bag just for shoes last voyage. :sad2:
Wish I had that problem right about now.
Enjoy the cruise!

I'm sure there will be a bar or two and a liquor store. Biggest effect will be a beer cooler going in at the gas stations. We only have two supermarkets and one has a corporate policy of not selling alcohol.

All the vices were legal at 18 when I was a youngster as was the age for voting (given our current choices that may qualify as a vice) and being able to kill and be killed in the service of our country. I can't say I knew many 18 year old males that were ready for any of those responsibilities myself included.

How big is the nest?
Not too big, only about the size of a coffee mug. It will probably be fine to hit it with a spray can. The idea of being up on a ladder swarmed by wasps just made me a bit nervous.

Yes, it could be a lot worse. A lot of the time it's close to $300 just to look at it, much less do any kind of repair.

Prayers for those in Nice, France. Another day, another senseless act.:sad1:

Happy Friday. Bring on the weekend. I get to leave around noon and should make it home by 2:00 PM. The beer better be chilling.

Thanks. And, we have the same bag issue with the shoes. I take a pair of tennis shoes and crocs for the trip. DW takes a minimum of 3 pairs each for her and both dds.

!

That's not too bad. Still hurts, but not as bad as a car payment. Congrats on jury duty for DS. I have been drafted once, but wasn't selected to join the jury. I told them I could be bribed easily. :lmao:

Never understood driving the car at 16, cigarettes & military service at 18, & alcohol at 21. Pick a # and stick with it.

Agreed. Prayers for all those killed and their families.

I'm sure to see a day of FB memes about banning the purchase of motor vehicles. :sad2:

Happy Friday Guys!

Half day for me so DW and I can celebrate our 21st anniversary watching DS play some basketball. Their final tournament starts today even though they have played 5 exhibition games this week. Only one game today and two tomorrow, Sunday depends on pool play.

Hot and muggy here but the games are taking place in a city on the coast so hopefully it won't be too bad there.

Have a good one.

I was away yesterday and hadn't heard this until late last night. I have no idea how someone could do something like this and I have no idea how to stop it.

Congrats on 21 years! Only 16 years here, but we are spending ours at Disney, with our 3 kids. :)

Afternoon chaps, from an overcast London. Horrible scenes in France, they seem to be a big target in Europe at the minute. Myself and DW were talking talking yesterday about how many plots our security services must foil every month for London, so massive kudos to them.

2 1/2 hrs left at work, but seem to be twiddling my thumbs today. Got a pile of work out that my guys are working on, now seem to be just sitting here waiting all for it to come back. As most of them are architects, they are probably in the pub right now, as Wimbledon has finished. Hey ho. 29 days till Orlando :woohoo:

Top O the Mornin Dads. Norm I hope the beer was "chilled" when ya got home yesterday. Thoughts and prayers to thos impacted by the horrific event in France. Fly out today for tomorrow sailing and can't wait to escape the real world for a week and have the family back together for first time in two months. Ain't seen DD for two months and FSIL since early January. Cheers guys

'Morning all...
What to say, what to say...
Maybe just happy Friday to all and may you and yours be well and at peace in this turbulent world.

Prayers for those in Nice, France. Another day, another senseless act.:sad1:
A nice long deep breath would be good, but I know better.

I'm sure to see a day of FB memes about banning the purchase of motor vehicles. :sad2:
Most of the posts that show up on my feed will be advocating the elimination of an entire segment of the population.
And the cycle will continue...

I'm lucky to have run across a fine independent mechanic.
Just about the most fair folks I've found when it comes to all things automotive, So I go out of my way to send business in their direction.

Congrats on jury duty for DS. I have been drafted once, but wasn't selected to join the jury. I told them I could be bribed easily. :lmao:
Now why didn't I think of that?
Folks already think baddy of me, I should use it to my advantage.

Never understood driving the car at 16, cigarettes & military service at 18, & alcohol at 21. Pick a # and stick with it.
Too many separate agendas for this to happen, but logic would dictate...
But then again, logic is irreverent in the face of absolute infallible certainty.

Happy Friday all. One day closer to my vacation, which I really really need.
That's about the best news I've head today.
hope y'all have a blast on the trip (so to speak, of course).

Happy Anniversary...
Spending such an occasion if support of our kids is pretty much the definition of parenting.
Good luck on the tournament.

Unfortunately that is true. At least until Tom Cruise gets that Minority Report thing working.

Thanks and thanks.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet. I always go in expecting to be gouged.

Hope his track record isn't like mine. I get a new summons just about every 2 years on the dot.

Just horrible.

Congratulations to you both!

Agreed.

3 adults and 5 checked bags, 2 carry on bags and 3 backpacks :headache::headache::headache::headache::headache::headache::headache::headache::headache::headache::headache::headache: We do have some of DDs stuff and things like sunscreen and drink bottles for everyone but are you kidding me! It's so much easier packing for the parks as on a cruise you do wear 3 different types of clothes during a single day in swimwear, casual and then something nice for evenings. I remember Rob having the same situation when his family sailed but still .....

Went out with youngest dd for about 90 minutes to warm her up for tennis tournament tomorrow. We worked on her baseline game, serves, and played a tiebreaker in case it happened. I asked her if she wanted to work on her net game. She wanted to practice her victory celebration instead. :sad2:

She decided on the superman pose in case you're wondering. :furious: She doesn't get this from me.

Did you get an extra stateroom for the luggage? :lmao:
