DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Morning gents. Back to the grind later today with a trainee attached to my waist for the next 20 weeks. Going to try to get more work done on the deck first. Pancakes are in the oven when everyone else wakes up.

Morning/afternoon from England chaps.... Only 4 hours to go in the work week over here, then all weekend building a climbing frame. Good news is off the Disneyland Paris at the end of next week, and then the countdown to Florida begins. Soccer season finished last week, so I now have a backlog of jobs from DW to get through...

Welcome aboard. I see out illustrious leader has given you a number; Norm will be along shortly to collect the dues. My name is Cliff and it is my duty to share little known facts and bits of wisdom like this.

Mixed weekend here in Austin. Only 1/2 day at work today; another rainy afternoon is going to shut us down early. We havent had 2 dry days in a row in a month. Dont get me wrong I am not complaining about the rain, we are just recovering from 4 years of drought; I just wish the timing was better so I could work outside on the weekends.
Once I get off I am heading up for my Granddads 93rd b'day. Fried fish, top shelf scotch, and horseracing. Gonna be a good afternoon.

Hey fellas, how long does it typically take to get from MCO to your resort using MDE? Our flight arrives at 4:30PM and we've got ADRs at Raglan Road at 7:00PM. Is that going to be too tight? We're staying at SSR.
You should be okay with that much of a cushion. I guess it depends on the day of the week that you arrive. Our next trip we arrive on a Friday at 4:05, and I'm HOPING we can make it on property ahead of the Friday afternoon rush hour traffic kicks in to delay us. We will be trying to make a 6:30 ADR.

August 13 -20 in GF, and then a week in Anna Maria Island. The Poly looks awesome, DW & I are talking about it for 2017, let me know what you think.
That is around the time of year we have been travelling to Disney the the past couple of years. It is typically very hot. Just make sure you plan plenty of down time during the middle of the day. We usually hit rope drop, then bail for pool time while it is super crowded and very hot, then head back in later for evening hours.

Had an interesting conversation with DD15 about those.
"Look Kay. Rafts."
"Those aren't rafts Dad."
"Sure they are."
"No. Rafts don't have engines."

Looked it up. This from Wiki: "are typically not propelled by an engine"

rotten kid.
:rotfl:

Pancakes are in the oven when everyone else wakes up.
Baked pancakes???

Thanks for the tip! The kids are pretty small at the minute, so thats the plan, to take to pretty easy and avoid the middays. Using these years as training for when they are bit older, just sowing the seeds of love for the parks...

Afternoon all. Played tennis this AM and then a lesson for my younger dd. She seems to be doing well thus far. I'm hoping that between paid lessons and my substandard coaching, she'll be ready for a tournament in August.

Cheers for the tip pkondz, a splash of sunscreen would be in order then, yes?
Last time we were in that sort of heat DW ended up in the room for about 6 days with heatstroke, being the english rose that she is, so basically we flew 3500 miles to watch 3 year old movies in a hotel room in the caribbean. At least the view was nice from the window.

Welcome. Dues are payable in dole whips, bacon, beer, or cake. You mail 818 portions to me and then I mail to all the guys. It's a fool proof plan.

Can you make the trainee do all your work? That is a great plan. :lmao:

I did pancakes for my family this AM as well. I'll try to do some during the week occasionally, but it is difficult getting mine out the door to school with the extra time.

Splitting one dole whip into 818 portions as we speak. Hopefully it'll be OK on the journey from London.

Another brilliant little known fact.

Better with bourbon.

No, that won't qualify you. You'll need to send me 818 dole whips. Oh, yeah, then I send them out. :lmao:

Good evening all. On our way to WDW now. Drove through 5 states today. Stopping north of Atanta for the night. Stoked to arrive in Orlando tomorrow!!!

Have a great trip. Post pictures if you have a chance.

Made it to Orlando around 2:00. Sunny and warm. After a week of cold and mostly drizzly rain, it is nice to feel that Florida sunshine again. Staying at the Holliday Inn just outside Lake Buena Vista. The kid has some high school friends here tonight and tomorrow and she is going to meet them at The Springs. They all recently graduated from college and I imagine there will be some celebrating tonight.

Tomorrow early am, I will be checking into the Poly while letting the kid sleep in a bit. Imagine we will hit Publix for supplies and maybe hit the pool. She wants to go to Trader Sam's so I will oblige. Hopefully some pics tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Chilling out before I take her to Springs so I downloaded some pics. A few more from Seton Hall...

A graduation present from dad, her first lab coat

Their bedroom after clean out. Not a 5 star resort

Maybe not the fist elevator Mr. Otis built but it must be up there. Over the summer the building including the rooms and elevator are getting redone

Can you guess it was moving day

The lab where she did the research

Her shark bits

And more of her samples

Another of her favorite spots, the greenhouse

Views of the campus from there

Great plan! :thumbsup2

Nah, just keeping 'em warm 'til the lazy louts rouse themselves.
Hard to believe I can't find a yawning smilie. It is interesting the different ways people use to keep pancakes warm until those lazy louts can consume them. Pat puts them on a plate in the microwave and keeps the door shut. I always put them on a plate and keep them wrapped in aluminum foil...........

Greetings from Australia heading to Disneyworld with DD 22 via a road trip out of DFW.Staying at Pop from Sept 24 to 30th
Stayed at Pop in 2008,off property in 2011 and 2014 was hoping for Port Orleans Riverside this time but free dining came up for our dates at Pop paid the diff to get the Dining Plan to get the one Table serve along with with the Quick serve
DD has a friend flying in from Texas so will let them do their thing and meet up during the day/night for our ADR so I will have time to check out some resorts and take some photos etc
Hoping to catch a College Football game some where along the way something with all the atmosphere but without the big price tag some games seem to be asking for

Thanks! And yes, I plan to do a trip report. :hippie: I'll be at a Disney Institute training course starting tomorrow. Haven't seen much info about it here on the boards (maybe they discourage you from sharing too many details, I know that I wo t be allowed to take behind the scenes photos) but I plan to share as much as possible. And I might even be more excited about meeting Lee Cockerell for coffee tomorrow morning :cool2:.
