DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Oh I made that one 2 months ago and it was consumed quickly. But others can be created, this isn't like highlander where there can only be one! (add a teaspoon of cayenne and its phenomenal!)

Okay, admission time. As I commented before, I put my name into the hat for one of two known "A" Store assistant manager positions, with a 98% chance of not getting it, it's pretty coveted, and there are a lot of those out there with higher seniority who would go for it. I mean likely twice my seniority, but I still threw it out there. Are they more qualified? Likely not, but that's the reality of a union environment.

But what I didn't come out and did not let it be known, except for DW and my departing Assistant, who encouraged this, is I also put in for a vacant "B" store assistant somewhere in the district. Not a high profile position, as the stores are smaller and quieter, (also harder for a non-driver lie me to get to), but a better shot at getting. We will see at the end of the month I guess. It's still a big step, and what with my frustrations/depression issues, a fresh start might go a long way.

Good luck Brent! If you get one of these stores I think the important question is, will we get free beer?

I used to love hot, spicy food. Since my latest visit to the surgeon, I am eating more oatmeal, soup, and veggies. Could be worse though.

'Morning all...

Still tinkering but it ain't lookin' good.
I can't hack into the database structure that underlies the Boards (nor should I)
and I haven't found either a way to copy out all data in a thread or an outside app that would do the calculating.

I asked the Mods about it and they confirmed that there isn't a way to do this any more, but that they might consider some kind of add-on at some time in the future. Stressing the "might" part of the answer. Actually they haven't even worked out what the new limit for the size of a thread will be in the new environment beyond noteing that It'll be larger then the old rule of 250. Posibally a lot larger.
Rob, can they just FTP you a feed from the DISDad table?
:joker:

  • Today marked the 7 month mark for DVC booking. Just nailed down VWL. First time staying there and we are planning on doing MNSSHP again.
  • Anyone going to be in da World October 10th-17th?

I liked VWL. DW did not. The trees wreaked havoc with her allergies.

Good luck.

Random question. Is it acceptable to put a kid in the shower with their pajamas still on? (asking for a friend)

It's called natural consequences. You tell her, she says no, natural consequences.

If we tried to close down a thread in a day like the leap year version, we might get their attention. Either way, you can still keep the nickname.

Wished I had known that when I named the this thread...

You can change it.

I'm with ya on the health plans, I too pay for the luxury of paying an annual out of pocket deductible that is pretty sizable through HSA.

There's a commercial in the tv market for the "luck" insurance plan. With the amount of my deductible, I might as well be on the luck plan. I'd have to die in the hospital twice before I would reach the deductible.

I think the term "insurance" is a misnomer. If you look at how you would use homeowners, life or auto insurance, you pay x amount of $$ to cover an unanticipated event. With health insurance, you have a pretty good chance of needing it. People are more prone to become sick as an "insurance event" versus car accident, home damage, etc. With other insurance, you would basically expect your premiums to go up after an event (if your fault).
.

Or, maybe an insurance plan that covers a health accident. But, why does every medical dr visit have to be billed thru insurance? We don't bill car insurance for oil changes.

Good luck Brent! If you get one of these stores I think the important question is, will we get free beer?

Only us Americans get free beer.

I think Norm has all the free beer stocked up with the other dues.

You misspelled a word "stocked" should be spelled "consumed" or "drank". :lmao:

Good Morning Guys. Internet is up and working this morning. Thanks for the prayers for DS. Knee is getting better slowly. Sprain of the MCL is the most likely diagnosis. I think I'll become a doctor. We have gone from pinpointing the problem to "most likely". Sounds like the weather guys.

I kind of mixed up the August trip resulting in the need to add an extra night. Basically, I originally booked the resort from 8/20-8/26. Thought it was through the 27th. So I booked our flights, ADR's and all other plans based on the 27th. The choices were to rebook the return flight and adjust or add a day. I did what all responsible DisDads would do and added the extra day.:thumbsup2

DS registered for his sophomore year of HS last night. After his freshman year, he will be 9 credits short of what he need to be a junior. He has chosen to go in all honors classes again next year, except for english. It will be tough with sports and his other activities, but he is committed to doing well and getting into a good college (of course that's assuming he is not drafted for MLB out of high school:lmao::lmao:). If he completes all 9 classes, he'll be able to take it easy for his Junior and a Senior years and just take studies to offset the open times. So many of his friends are taking studies and 1 credit classes now, it will catch up with them later.

it's truly Monday.....my co-worker of 15 years has decided to move to a different position. What does this mean? More work for Scott and having to train someone (once we find them). Not looking forward to this.

Thankfully, my boss told me not to worry about my scheduled vacation in 26 days...he said "we should be fine".

Just remember that "we" means that the company should be fine. Basically confirming the your screwed.:rotfl2::rotfl2: Wishing you luck that everything goes smooth and you can rest on your vacation.

Strange things are happening. It almost appears like things outside are like, melting or some junk like that. Sun is out, above freezing, it's crazy.
ADRs are all set. Now just would like a little deal to come around and ease the sting if the trip costs and we are laughing. I instructed (ie asked her really nicely) DW to send an email out to our TA to keep her eyes and ears open.

Busy month. Boss is on vacation for another two weeks and this is the assistant manager's last week till he hoes to a new store. Means a lot more on my plate since I'm now the senior man. The fact he took today sick means I'm running the show a few times this week, and it'll be April until tf ey replace him. Hmm( no it won't be me, I've put in for the position but no chance in hell my seniority will be up there )

We were over 50 yesterday. Lot's of melting going on, but still a lot of snow to get rid of. For the trip, you should see at least a FD discount. Typically that us what we have been seeing for August.

Good luch getting the job, even though it's a long shot. Maybe they'll give you more $$, or at least let you take home some of that beer as compensation for your hard work.

Good afternoon gentlemen,

Its been a few weeks since I've been around the clubhouse. Hope everyone is well. I see the level of intellectual conversation is as vibrant as ever.

Overtime has been plentiful around these parts which means sleep has been scarce. Its been busy here too with swimming, basketball, and scouts.

Welcome back! Wait....we're supposed to have intellectual conversations??:confused3 That's what I'm doing wrong.

To the dads in the DISDads Fantasy baseball league...

I've been trying to cross post to catch everyone. A few of you haven't set keepers yet. Deadline is tomorrow evening at 6pm.

I'm getting ready to set keepers for anyone who doesn't have any yet, but you can still change them until 6pm Eastern on Tuesday.

If you played last year and don't want to play this year, please let me know!

Thanks!

Umm....Was I int he league last year? Let me know, I'll have to figure out how to sign in again.

Top O the Morning Dads! I know the time change thing should be absorbed by now but I am just dragging today. I think that getting back home Friday from Vegas with that 2 hour time change then the hour on Saturday has just caught up to me.

Separate note, one of my team members and close friends (we have worked together for the better part of 28 years now) parents were in a major car accident last week. They will survive, but are going to need assisted care for the rest of their lives. They are 82 & 85 so if ya get the chance send out positive thoughts or a prayer or tow for them - much appreciated.

Prayers being sent.

'Morning all...

WHAT??? But...how will I...

Ok, I confess, I really didn't pay attention to the post counts.

I hope no one ever took it seriously.
I started doing that because a question got asked and I found a way to answer it.
Just kept it up after that. No big loss.

One of these days I'll have to have someone explain the concept of a deductible on a health insurance plan. I'm paying the company this huge monthly premium all for the privilege of paying 100% of my own costs out of pocket anyway. The moral, as always, is: don't get sick.

I'm in a similar situation: I have 1 interview for 2 promotional opportunities on Monday the 23rd. This might be my best chance yet, but after being shot down so many times I'm very hesitant to get my hopes up.

It's not so much Health Insurance as it is Catastrophic Health Insurance. Frustrating to be sure.
My policies have always had those deductables, but some are worse then others.

And may one of those opportunities make itsef available this time around.
Remember... we just want you to know that we're all counting on you.

:scared1:. How will we know when to race to the finish with pictures of bacon? Maybe I should just start now. :scratchin

Sounds like a good plan to me.

Thank you for the warm welcome. Maybe this humble offering of a bacon-wrapped meatloaf that I made 2 months ago will show my sincerity to the cause?

Trust me, sincerity was never a requirement to hang out 'round here

Rob, can they just FTP you a feed from the DISDad table?
:joker:

Oh I can see them just jumping all over that idea :lmao:

If we tried to close down a thread in a day like the leap year version, we might get their attention. Either way, you can still keep the nickname.

Oh yah, the tradition of getting the last word can continue on.
There's always got to be something to compete over - It's in the Constitution I do believe :rotfl2:

I am somewhere in the area of 13 pages behind here. B\c I actually harbor some OCD tendencies, I will actually go back and read them all. I apologize now for what will appear to be random replies.

I'm with ya. I usually go back as well. Feel free to post as many random replies as you wish. Pretty much all random all the time.

Why yes, yes she does and she is the one encouraging it.

I too go back and read everything. It's my job! And after the 31st, it's my only job. Maybe I need to renegotiate my pay?

Let's see......Lost your job, got dates on the side and she's still supporting you? That's a keeper right there. OK, we'll give you a 100% raise over the salary you get now for keeping us in line.

Dang shame that you had to add another day on to the trip.
I'll have to check my records and make sure that I made a similar error
(or maybe change them to ensure that I did).

Glad that your boy's tweak of the knee does not seem to be serious.
May that continue to heal quickly.
sounds like he's got thew right ideas about work load and credits at school.
This may be a tough year with that plan but it will work to his advantage in the long run and allow time to correct anything that gets out of whack along the way.

Congrats to your DD's successful basketball campaign. Get ready to go through the NCAA eligibility process. Seton Hall's women's team is doing well and is in the Big East final. Just saying. Hope son's tweak heals quickly.

Think Brady is peeing his pants a little bit with the Phins signing Suh?

Well that and the fact the Patriots decided you no longer need defensive backs to play defense.:sad2::mad::mad: I'm not really sure what the strategy is, but it looks like we are rebuilding again. It looks like we'll expect Brady to put up 40 a game. Dropping back to pass 45 times a game is not going to be fun for him.:faint:

Knee a little swollen still but getting better. Try outs next week for his HS baseball team. Coach sent out an email to make sure he was planning to play. Pretty nice that he remembered DS from the summer camps and clinics. We have gone to back to back state title games and won the states last year so it's a really strong program.

We decided to keep DD on her existing team and play out this season so she can play with her cousin and a friend she knows. We'll evaluate the other teams over the spring and summer to see what the best spot is for her next fall. Almost 5'8" now so we'll see how mach more she grows.

Morning Guys,

Middle school basketball has come to an end, lost 42-40 in the bronze medal game. The opponent hit the winning basket at the buzzer to send us to defeat. It was a fun game to be involved with and I don't think the boys were too upset. The good news is volleyball starts today! I am so glad that this is the last year of middle school for DS so I can go back to just being the parent watching instead of coaching.

Have a good one guys.

We have one prospect for the replacement of my co-worker and I'm not too happy with this choice as I know the guy. He's more concerned about his social life then working. I'm hoping he turns down the job as it's taken him 4 days and we still haven't heard anything one way or the other from him. But he's buddy's with the boss's son....so he's been given quite a bit of time to make his mind up. More time than should've been allowed. We need to get someone in now and start training them if they want to "be fine" while I'm on vacation!

Still stressed.

The good news is I received Mickey Email today stating my Magic Bands had been shipped!

Brent, Prayers that you get one of the new positions and hope it's the ones that pay the most $$, have the least amount of work and are closer to home to make it easier. Am I asking too much?

Random question. Is it acceptable to put a kid in the shower with their pajamas still on? (asking for a friend)

Your right, that is random.:lmao::lmao: I suppose it's OK, when necessary. Not sure I want to know why. Only happened once that I can remember in our house when DS was sick and we were throwing the PJ's out anyway. Don't ask for a description of the event. It wasn't pretty.

Even I know leftovers don't last for 2 months.

But what do I know. You need my address to send it? Welcome to the club!

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I think Norm has all the free beer stocked up with the other dues.

Yeah, that's right. Norm has it stocked up. :rolleyes1 I'm sure he's only eating and drinking it to keep it from expiring.

Morning guys

:wave2:Saw the family pic on FB. That's a good looking group you've got there.

Congrats on a great hoops season! It was definitely more fun to watch DS play with the high school kids without the stresses of coaching. I do miss coaching him, but not the time commitment and constant running around. Hope you have a successful volleyball season. Around here, volleyball is a winter sport. Who wants to be inside in the spring?:faint:

Well....As long as Mickey is sending your bands it makes today a good day. I hope everything works out. Family and family friends as co-workers is always a tough position to be in. Luckily both kids of our owner decided to take a different professional path. Now, just hoping the company is here until I can retire. Hard to find a position like the one I have now and still get paid.:jumping1:
