DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Good Morning Men!

Happy Birthday Jodi! May your Tiki man spoil you today. Continued prayers for your dad and family!

Hoop this weekend was a mixed bag. One game postponed due to snow, 7th grade girls lost by 4 yesterday. Opponent played a 2-3 zone the whole game and we shot somewhere around 6 for 80.:sad2: The girls played hard and if we face them in the playoffs, I would think we beat them with a little bit of a change in how we play and we can't possibly miss that many shots again. DD won her game by 4 points. Good game, but we could have played better. You know the saying, better to win ugly than lose pretty.

I hope everyone has a great Monday and for those in the northeast, stay warm and safe for the next few days. I know it's expected in a New England winter, but this one is supposed to be pretty bad. I say we all book last minute flight to Cj's house and hang out there.

Going to actually reach the low 50's this week. Sucks to be here. The kid is on a school sponsored ski trip this weekend. Would like to fly up for a weekend, ski a bit and fly back down here. Then head to the Keys to lay in the sun. Seriously, stay safe man. Same to all you Yankees.

Don't talk to me about sleepovers until you take your daughter and seven of her 16 YO friends for a weekend at WDW. Wimps.

Well the 12 inch storm is now being forecasted to be 18-31 inches with local areas maybe getting more. The weather trucks were already in our little town of Boxford in anticipation of us being one of those "local areas".:headache::headache: The last storm like this we had 2.5 feet of snow, power out for 3 days and basically a full week of clean up to get all the trees cleared and roads fully open. I have already booked a tentative reservation at the hotel down the street that has a built in water park. First sign of potential power loss, I'll see you at the pool.:thumbsup2

No thanks on the WDW with 8 16 yo girls. I have a hard enough time keeping track of the one 12 year old that belongs to me.:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Morning Guys.

Jim, I can't believe you still have any syrup left.

No basketball this weekend, except watching. Spend the day on a planning meeting all day yesterday, today I going to make like gym and head out to shovel snow. It hit here late yesterday Jim but it looks to be the light and fluffy kind.

We had just enough for DD to enjoy. She has hoarded it and restricted it's use so that no one else can have it without permission. This was the last of it. We used most of it right away. DD kept what was left and decides who and when it is consumed.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

We had light and fluffy for the first half of the storm. Then rain for about an hour and wet and heavy snow after. Everything was melting yesterday afternoon and it is all frozen solid today. Preparations for tonight through Wednesday are complete along with the junk food purchased yesterday to get us through. Everyone else was buying bread, milk, water as usual. We had chips, dip, cookies, popcorn, soda, wine, beer and pretty much everything needed to get us through a couple of days. All is packed and in the foyer in the event of a power loss.

Only tragedy is we went to a Golden Corral. Why, why, why??

Have seen the commercials and maybe one actual restaurant. Never been. Sounds like you are giving it 1 star. Maybe not being there ever is a good thing.

Evening guys. Spent yesterday clearing snow, and today trying to get ready for our trip later this week. 1-2 feet more snow coming tomorrow night though, so we'll have to deal with that first! :faint:

Hey Paul. Hopefully the storm doesn't effect your flights. They are already starting to cancel flights. Be safe and hoping the airport is open and you get out to sunny FL on time. Sounds like the planes with be standing room only for a while after the storm.

Please bring back some of that sunshine with you when you return.

Why do I listen to the side of reason:confused3

I ask myself that question every day. :rolleyes1

Morning guys

:goodvibes

Morning Guys.

Nice sunny day here today but freezing. The storm that is suppose to swamp New England today is suppose to hit here tomorrow. The forecast has it starting around 6 am and I have a flight out at 6:30 am, wonder if I will get out.

Supposed to start flurrying around 4-5PM today, heavy snow around 10PM or so and pretty much go until Wednesday morning here. DS had no school due to a teacher conference today. Had only 3 half days last week due to mid terms and now will most likely be home tomorrow and Wednesday. Good to be a kid! I already gave hime the "when I was your age" tale of walking in 3 feet of snow for 47 miles blinded by the 40 mile hour winds to get to school at 6AM in the morning. :lmao::lmao::thumbsup2 Not sure he believed me.:rolleyes1

Thanks for the prayers and thanks Jim for her bday wishes. Unfortunately this won't be much of a birthday we just got a call from the hospital and will be heading back for the end game this morning. Pray for her strength and us driving through the storm to get there. Things apparently went south overnight. Thanks for the support and all guys. You are the best group and proud to call you friends.

Stay safe up there Jim & Paul... Guess it is a wait and see game to how much we are going to get.... It started snowing lightly here about 8:30am. Juliana has an early dismissal. Melody has to work till 10:30 tonight. They are shutting the highways down at 9:00pm so hopefully no one will be on the roads then. Last estimate I heard was 22''-32'' with possible higher amounts.

We had 36'' here in 2013 but that was after a few storms and we already had 18'' on the ground. This time we only have about 5'' on the ground so there will be a place to move the fresh snow to. I have my beer and a full fridge of food so I say Let It Snow, Let it Snow!

There is a point that I have where cheap is too cheap. Hey all you can eat buffet for a nickel. I'll pass.

Light snow in New Jersey and SH canceled classes after 1:00 pm. and all day tomorrow. The kid is going out to get some provisions, things like kale chips and crap like that. They got back last night ahead of the storm after a skiing trip somewhere in the mountains near the school. Super deal the school did, $35 bus, one night lodging and lift tickets.

A pic with one of her friends.

Stay safe guys.

Sorry to hear that Brent, safe travels. We'll all be thinking of you guys.

DS had an interesting game on Saturday. Playoff semifinals, and the game was neck and neck all the way through. Since it's 2nd 3-on-3, the rules are a bit modified. The biggest one is the substitution rules. Referee stops the clock every 3 minutes to sub players, making sure everyone gets roughly equal playing time. The other coach was clearly playing to win, no matter what. He kept in his 3 best players for the last 6 minutes of the game and the 2 minute overtime. And I'm sure that he would have kept them in again for the second overtime if we hadn't hit the game winner with 2 seconds left. He was working the poor high school kid that was reffing all game long - getting close calls overturned, etc. Just an overall bad display of sportsmanship by someone that is supposed to be setting a good example.

Sounds like the coach thought he was in the NBA.

Very sorry to hear this.
Prayers are being sent.
Support, that you get just because.

Looks like a beautiful day on the hill.

Great job on the podcast last night CJ; it was fun to listen to.

They had a blast on the trip. Unfortunately that was one of the few pictures the Pirate Princess was seen standing up. Spent most of the time on her rump roast. Luckily everyone came home without any broken bones. She said she was a bit bruised today.

Thanks. We had a fun night last night doing the podcast.

Unfortunately some coaches think they are the next Belichick (see what I did there Jim) and the rules don't apply. Sends a bad message. Glad the cheetahs didn't prosper.

Top O the Morning Dads. Got several days of catching up to do, way to busy on both work and home fronts this past week - all good though. Want to make sure I at least send out a huge stay safe and prayers to those in the northeast that are gonna be affected by this oncoming storm - stay safe my friends.

Sorry to hear, Brent. Our thoughts are with your family.

:thumbsup2 Glad to see she's embracing the northern winter lifestyle so well.

I know... at least slip the kid a $20 or something. Be nice about it. :rolleyes1

Sorry to hear that Brent. Continued prayers and give Jodi and the girls a hug for us. Stay safe and be careful on the road. Hopefully you can get there before the snow starts or at least gets heavy. I goes without saying that if you need anything, just let us know.

You stay warm and safe too. They are saying about the same here so we will bunker down when I get home from work and plan for a lot of quality family time.

Looks like a great day on the slopes! Make sure she stays safe.

Try not to get a sunburn today.

Some people just should not be allowed near children. Glad you beat him. If he had actually won, it would just encourage his behavior. We lost our game this weekend as I said. Had my 3 weakest players in at the end of the game as it was their shift and it's just a regular season game so no stress on the win/loss stats. Keep setting a good example!

Thanks everyone. What weird weather. From blinding snow we are about an hour west now and the suns out.

Morning guys. One week from now I should be on a plane headed down to wdw. :thumbsup2
Enjoy the trip - hope this weather does not cause any headaches for you
Somebody needs to make a runDisney event that includes stops at all the F&W Festival booths.

Hey...
Or, for those Dads that can't get to DDC early in the year we think about doing a DDC4.5 or DDC5 during F&W?
I had a torn tendon in my elbow and had surgery last Monday (12th) to repair it. Between the post surgery pain and the physical therapy pain I am having a ton of fun lol. I am off for a few more weeks so I get to hang here a little more than usual. :cool1:
Sorry to hear about the injury. Here's to a speedy recovery and an enjoyable couple of weeks of down time.
:rolleyes1 I say we all meet at ESPN zone on the Boardwalk to discuss over Super Bowl weekend.
:thumbsup2 Now you're talking
Morning...

Today's life lesson: make sure you have some sort of insurance or something for when it's your time to go. :headache:

Essentially, DW has been checking things out for her dad, and he's got nothing, not even bought into the Canadian Pension Plan so no death benefit there. I officially squashed this years trip, no way we are going to squeeze enough cash for it. Major downer today naturally, gotta wait another year. I'll have to live vicariously through Facebook posts now.:rotfl2:
Sorry to hear about the family challenges - as always hang in there and some pixie dust coming your way
I need the tactical extraction team on alert. 4 teenage girls over to the house for oldest dd's birthday sleepover. They get the main tv room and I'm hiding upstairs in the room over the garage. I'll be ready for that Batman type airplane extraction.
You survived without an extraction team. Just wait until that same group of friends is out for the night and roll in late :scared1:
Screen-shot-2013-08-30-at-6.04.27-PM.png
:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:
Now that would be cool.

As a person who works in sport I have always wanted to just get in the facilities at Wide World of Sports just to look around. So far I have only been able to see the ball park during a spring training game.
DD played there twice in club soccer tournaments. Great experience for everyone both on and off the field. Best part was you could drink a beer on the sidelines during games.
Confused as to why I couldn't find any hockey scores tonight. All Star break I think it's over now between me and hockey. That lockout year proved I didn't miss it at all and with the poor play of the Leafs just are the nails in the coffin.
Or become a Blackhawks or Bruins fan?
