DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Mind if I wait until a certain lady has moved on?
We're not slated to be in the path although I'm sure we'll see a lot of rain from the outer bands. That's why I offered to CJ to come up if he needs to. I've also mentioned this to my family in central FL, but they'll probably just get a bunch of rain if it continues as they're predicting now (East coast of FL).

Now, according to the predictions, it will hit SC, so opening the offer up to others (ahem Rob) if needed.

Ah. Last prediction I saw (a day or two ago) was right smack up the middle of FL. Glad to hear that (hopefully) is no longer the theory.

Well, obviously, we won't really know until it happens (although the predictions/modeling give us a likely track, I don't know that any can be a sure thing). Here's what the current predictions show:
https://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/atlantic/2017/hurricane-irma
Ironically, the same site, shows a 5 day forecast showing it going right over Miami.

So, I guess the lesson is, we don't know for sure, but the Atlanta area is far enough inland, we shouldn't be hit too hard regardless of what the track actually ends up being. We'll like get a lot of rain and winds. Some areas may get some flooding, but shouldn't be too bad.https://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/atlantic/2017/hurricane-irma

Just thought about something...maybe I ought to get some pineapple juice and some soft serve ice cream and make home-made Dole whips. I'm sure I'd get a lot of company whether folks are in the hurricane's path or not. :rotfl2:

Morning Guys,

Hope all you guys in the path of Irma are finding a safe place. I just watched the last video the Maho Beach webcam recorded and that was scary.

Take care!

‘Morning all…
My closing-week early schedule it starting to take its toll.
Two more days, then back to a rational sleep schedule.
Just got’a watch that I’m not nodding off during…..Zzzzzzzz

That thing is... "big" doesn't seem big enough of a word.
Terrifying. There's a word.
Good word.
On the up side, conditions are starting to work against this storm.

Everyone else is stocking up on bread and milk here. I'm stocking up on bacon. Come on over, I have plenty. ;)
Good choice.
You should be able to trade bacon reserves for water if need be at a ten to one ratio or better.

Holding that current track is going to be important.
If it stays on the current line, the eye may just stay over water and the worst winds (to the north & east) will then stay out at sea. It still won’t be pretty, but it also won’t be as bad as it could be. Having half of it over land will also start slowing the thing down. If it comes ashore north of Savanna as predicted, it should be down to a Cat-2 or less. We will see, but right now all I suspect I’ll see here is a whole lot of rain. Flooding is still possible, but it ought not be anything like the thrashing Texas got.

If you add eggs, them you have French toast. :lmao:

Those staples seem to be the first to go, and the least likely to last especially in a power outage. Still, we always buy them too when the annual one inch of snow threatens to shut down driving for a month. :sad2:

I've often said everyone must love french toast during a storm (or threat of one)...always buying milk, eggs and bread. Never have understood why nobody seems to be buying syrup.

Definitely more to the east than what I'd seen. Keep moving east Irma.

 When I drive, I always have to go around Atlanta, so.... I'm in!

Oh? Hadn't heard... Good!

It's Thursday today, although I'm off from the days off from Labor Day weekend.

Watched all the Florida traffic. I'm still confident we'll buy our condo as close to beach as we can afford, make sure it is secured as best as possible, and ride it out. Irma is scary, and we've had several days of warning to make it even more scary. Here, Mike knows how fast tornados can spring in our area. My job 1 office is 1/2 mile south from tornado alley, where we had a big tornado in 2000 that ripped trees and some homes out of the ground. We were in our first apartment, maybe 3 miles north grilling pork chops outside with no rain when it hit. No sirens. That was before everyone had Weather Apps on phone.

I'm not one to be worried about the weather. When my time is up, it's up.

DisDad Emergency Shelter. We just keep growing. That's nice of you to offer.

Read an article today about proposals under the Clinton administration to buy out and demolish building in flood zones, and just redo wetlands to try and diminish effects. That may have helped Houston. Not sure about Irma.

If I'm not mistaken, there isn't any dairy in dole whips.

Dear employee,
Hope you get some sleep and Irma misses you. But, even if you don't sleep and the town is destroyed, be sure to show up to work on time the next morning.
Thanks: Management

Afternoon guys, all hunkered down. Some things on the to do list for today and a couple of tightening the bolts for tomorrow. Received lots of offers to bunk out with people from up and down the east coast. Appreciate it but I should be OK depending on where the thing moves ashore, Tonight it might make the turn to take it away from the coast. Really beat so I'll probably take a nap.Updates later if possible.

Hoping for the best. Let us know how you're doing if you can.

Look after yourself mate. All the best from over here. Put on a "Monty Python Marathon" and slug it out.

Hang in there, CJ. And keep us posted, especially if you need anything.

There's almost definitely no pineapple.....

'Morning all...
Last early work day (for this month at least)
Maybe I'll even get out of here on time.

Doubt it, but still...

Now it looks like they're calling for a direct hit again. This is scary.
I see that. Not good...
It has slowed to a Cat-4 so there is an infinitesimally small bit of positive news (assuming it continues to slow rather than the opposite).
Current track is certainly unhelpful for the Bahamas and Florida.
But for me, holding that line will put it heading toward Atlanta and likely missing the Carolina altogether
(meaning: a lot of my neighbors will be looking to return mass quantities water and bread)

My sister (who remember had driven my mom back to FL on Monday) came through yesterday going back to MI. Took her a little over 12 hours for what is normally a 7 to 7 1/2 hour drive.

My mom, brother, SIL, nieces, etc. may be coming up now because the current track shows it coming up the center of the state (not looking good for Disney either).

Hopefully, by the time it hits Atlanta, it will be just heavy rain and winds. We're not at all close to being in a flood area, so other than making sure I have nothing outside that can turn into a projectile, should be good. The mountains north of us should do a good job knocking down a bunch of the outer bands of wind and rain also. We could use another cold front coming in to cool it down also. ;)

Ironically, if they do come up, I will need to stock up on milk and bread not because of the storm, but simply increasing the volume in my house times 3 or 4. :rotfl2:
