DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Doh. Didn't even think of that since I was thinking coming up the coast vs. crossing FL.
Where's the forehead smack emoji?

There ya' go... ;)

Happy Tuesday. Quiet here on the home front. Lots of media on the retirement system and the Governor plans to call a special session this or next month. I went ahead and booked a November meeting. I don't have enough time in yet to retire, but if there are changes or buyout proposed, then i should be able to have them calculate the different options. Maybe i can move to Florida sooner than expected. Now, I just have to wait.

Hey guys. Feeling better but now I got worry about that bit** Irma possibly coming next week. Plan it to hit the store early tomorrow for supplies and close the shutters. We need to get ready early because the kid is going to be flying to Seton Hall later in the week to participate in a lecture series on sharks and ocean ecology. Good thing is they are paying to bring her up there. I get to face the winds and take care of her mutt. Gee, can't wait.

Stay safe CJ. Prayers for those in the path of the hurricane.

Well, the surprise for my mom went well (mostly).
We went up to Mercier's in Blue Ridge to get apples for her to take back to FL with her.
Unbeknowst to her, my sister came in from the north and met us there. She was waiting in line and my sister and I snuck up behind her and my sister asked her if she could get in line there and my mom was totally shocked. Unfortunately, I was trying to get ahead to take pictures, but my sister didn't give me a chance.

Funny thing is earlier that day my mom was fretting over if she'd be able to fit everything in her checked bag so she could carry on the apples. Since they left this morning to drive to FL, that was a non-issue and I had to stifle a laugh when she said that. :rotfl2:

My mom said it was the best birthday ever, although her memory is going, so not sure how many birthdays back she remembers now. ;)

Glad she had a great birthday.

Morning All,

beautiful morning here, should be in the 80s later today (that American temperature-speak). First day of school for most students today, K-6, and grade 9 starts today. Grades 7,8, 10 to 12 all start tomorrow so DS had one more day to sleep in.

Have a good one all.

Thanks for the American temp translation.

'Morning all...
Welcome back to the work week.
Spent the "holidays" laboring, so nothings really different, it's just the venue that's changed.

Been watching that one. Dang monster's already at Cat-5 and heading toward the gulf.
And there's already another Cape Verde storm developing right on its heals as well.
If it holds course, it should sideswipe you but being NE of the eye, I'd not be taking it for granted either.

If that thing gets into the gulf without loosing too much power scraping through the Florida Strait, then all that warm water is just going to make for one mighty bad situation when it finally makes full landfall.
Everyone down on the G.C., I'd advise you plan ahead, this ain't looking good.

You stay safe as well.

That's got to feel good, nice one. Nice to hear she enjoyed herself.
Hey CJ. I've got a couple of spare bedrooms if you need to bug out, but then again,
As have I CJ. I'm fairly sure you would miss the storm from my house.

Stay safe my friend.

Evening chaps from a drizzly London. Last day of major meetings tomorrow, and then I start to hand over all my stuff. 2 weeks left. Have a good day.

Haven't checked in this weekend while out of town and will catch up later but wanted to pass on prayers to CJ and please be safe sir - why can't these things just stay out to sea.

Stay safe Cj, you are welcome to come up here. Jazz and Blues Festival starts next week, it's a great time.

Stay safe down there. Hope the storm has more bark than bite.

Nice work! Sounds like a great surprise.

Looks like another one forming behind it. This is brutal. :faint:

Hope they don't screw around with it. It's not right when you sign on and work many years only to have them pull a Darth Vader (I'm altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further).

'Morning all...
It's quiet here, and all things considered, that probably a good thing.

May the folks in Puerto Rico & The Antilles weather that monster.
The forecasts aren't good at all.

It should be a Cat-1 by tomorrow morning.
however it should turn northwest considerably sooner. From that point could either head toward Bermuda or keep on track toward the Carolinas. We'll have to wait a while to get a better sense of that one.

Must be rough dealing with that every year. I'll take the snowstorms any day.

Top o' the mornin' dads. Hope all is well and praying for all the folks across the islands and in FL.

CJ, this is looking to be much worse than Andrew and I remember I still had a lot of friends at Homestead AFB when that came through. I would suggest you and DD's pooch need to find somewhere else (regardless of where that might be).

Just got back from a week off to the Canadian west coast.
Beautiful country.

Hope everyone in the south is safe.
And... will be safe.

Prayers, congrats, pixie dust as required.

Welcome back!

We see more ice than snow, but I'd rather not deal with either. We don't maintain the infrastructure or equipment needed to deal with it down this way.

I'm far enough inland that it takes a really large storm on the right track to cause us serious damage (though it has most certainly happened more that once). My family has properties on the coast though, so we keep a good eye on the storms every season. I've been chased off the beach a couple times in August and September, but luckily we were all home the last time a Cat-4 came inland. The eye of that monster crossed better then 250 miles overland to get to us and it was still a Cat-1 when it got here. Quite the mess that was.

I'm very concerned for Fla right now.
The only "good" indication from this storm is that it shouldn't stall in on place like the last one.
Everything else about it just looks plain bad.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Norm a very happy anniversary - sorry I'm late. Had a great weekend in Dauphin Island - some pics over on the other site caught a 15-18 pound redfish and a 25 pound jack crevalle. First time there and it is just perfect if you like the water and beach. Good food and good friends along with a good consumption of adult beverages just topped it off. Again, CJ and anyone else in the path of that storm be safe.
'Morning all...
Working Sunday and on call Monday, so no plans for me.
Hope the rest of ya' can enjoy the time off.

May good times be here for every one.
Y'all take care.
Sorry about that, hopefully you get an extra day or 2 somewhere down the line.

I hope not either, but it looks like they are. I don't think the end result will be as bad as proposed (by design), but this is their savings plan.

::yes::

We have tornados here that can just as easily clear a house or neighborhood.

Ya know, I really really dislike snow and cold, but you have a good point.

Hurricane Ike ripped the roof of our house several years ago in KY.

I'm very concerned for Fla right now.

Or, it could still miss, depending on the path of the storm.
