DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Tonight my wife told me she's adopting a dog without my permission. She's using a portion of her money from a side job she had during tax season. We almost always consolidate finances, but this is money she asked to put aside for her to use at her own discretion in the future (e.g. playset for the boys). I told her sure, you can adopt the dog, but in exchange, I get to purchase a small OKW DVC resale contract that I get to use for a solo, resort-stay only, long weekend every year. She agreed. Truthfully, the OKW contract will also be used for future trips with the boys, which should also give her some space from us cavemen. While she's playing the short game of maybe fifteen years with this dog, I'm playing the long game of thirty-three years on an OKW (57) DVC contract. Or she just totally played me and found a way to get a weekend alone for the next thirty-three years.

Well that's quite the trade-off.

Morning, Fellas! Hope all are well. Had a good week bouncing from office to office. Next week's schedule has me at one office 4 day next week from 9am to 5pm (cue Dolly Parton's song). This will be nice because it'll give me plenty of time in the gym, which I've been hitting everyday. I'm not losing the weight I want before I go, but I am getting more stamina for my trip. Speaking of which, I'm now down to exactly 3 weeks. Just 21 days until the big day. I'm getting excited. :goodvibes:goodvibes

What is this "weekend" you speak of?

Okay, I know what a weekend is. It's tomorrow. Then back to the work week tomorrow night.

So you only got a one day weekend?

Good luck! Are you going to film the reveal?

Yes I am. I'm hoping she'll have a great reaction, but we'll see.

Yeah...

Remember this: "Poor planning (i.e. staffing) on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

In this case it they were short staffed because of 1. Paternity leave for one of the employees, 2. Another employee had a mental break down and went out on temporary FMLA and 3. The temp reaching her max number of hours and couldn't work any more. This has since been resolved, but for a 2 week period it was intense. And it made for the time to go by quickly. Plus it made me look good because I came in and did the work of 2 people. :teeth: The practice manager sent a really nicely worded email to my manager and supervisor. Major points in my book.

That's what I'd suggest. Then it's a quick exit out to the busses.

I think that's what I'll do. I'll find a nice spot on Main Street, hopefully in the shade, and park it. It'll be a nice rest while we wait for the parade. Then it'll be an easy exit.

Happy weekend all! Until midnight when the work week starts again

You may already be familiar with Touring Plans, but their software allows you to put in the rides you want to experience, meal times for TS or QS, rest breaks at the parks or at the resort, etc. You can put in the pace (slow and experience nearby attractions, balanced, or fast and all over the park based on attraction wait time) and you'll be given a pretty good schedule to go off of. You're close enough now to your trip you have everything you need to make the plans. I think a year subscription costs around two Mickey pretzels and cheese. I will be using them for our trip in August since I have three young boys. We will have to go slow and take a lot of breaks in the parks and at the resort.

I have a subscription to Touring Plans, I also have the app. I've looked into their itineraries but you have to know when you're going to take a break and what not. Don't know that right now. I guess I could still use it as a guide. I have 3 weeks, so still some time to work out how I'm going to tour each park. I know it's getting close, so I don't have a lot of time, but still some time.

I second using Touring Plans we always use it. And the app updates thru the day with actual wait times (not the posted wait) its under $20 and well worth it.

:thumbsup2

Wow! You've got some DVC out of it. That's nice.

Question for everyone: I can remember at one point the front gate cast members stamping your hand to get back into the park if you were to leave and come back. Is that still a thing, or is it all done by way of the Magic Bands now? I mean, if I'm going to go back to the resort to swim and all, I'd hate to have that stamp wash off. Just curious. Thanks

I don't remember ever having that done and we've been going since 2004. Maybe because we always have park hoppers.

I could be wrong, but I somehow remember that they use to stamp our hand. I could be wrong, but I had to ask. Thanks for responding.

Back in the 70s and into the 80s, your park ticket almost looked like a toll both ticket, if some of you kids remember those. Lol
On the bottom was rectangles with how many days, day one, day two, day three etc.
When you got to the turnstile, the cm would rubber stamp the date on your ticket.
If you wanted to leave and come back, they would stamp the back of your hand with an invisible ink, it was probably some kind of acid. Lol
On return, they would look at the date stamp on the ticket and you would run your hand under a blue light. The stamp was a name of a Disney character. Sometimes on your right hand sometimes on your left.
It didn’t wash off easy, even with swimming. Peter Pan ride you could see all your stamps.
I have a ticket from the 70s but it’s still in a box somewhere in the house from when we moved.
This was the system that they used after ticket books. Which I remember those too. Lol
But no, they don’t stamp your hand anymore. It’s all done off your experience app and the tickets linked to it. The mouse knows where, when and who is coming and going anymore.
He sees and knows everything, lol

Yes, I actually opted for a small SSR contract that has the same use year that our other contract has. There wasn't much for OKW on the resale market and the extended contracts are more expensive than SSR with just three more year on them. We just signed the contract tonight. Now it'll be a few months before we close. I've been wanting more points anyways, mainly to share the DVC experience with friends and family.

Plus, my wife picked a really sweet dog. She's a lab/terrier mix.

Usually only get one day off out of every eight days. Occasionally one out of seven or one out of nine. Rarely I'll get two days off, usually with a work day in between. Been this way since last fall. Hopefully we'll get some respite soon, for a little bit. We've got two new trainees who should be done training in the next month or two... except one's pregnant and will be gone for a year starting in early September.

There ya go. That's the important part... provided it actually means something.
I've been in this game too long to think (at least in my job) that "points" for good work actually means anything.

Nope. Not any more. But I do remember that.

Cool! :thumbsup2

I made my Dining Reservations today, I was able to get everything I wanted, Teppan Edo lunch at 2:30, Steakhouse 71 dinner at 5:10, House of Blues at 5:00 and Liberty Tree Tavern at 5:00.

It was top priority for me to get 5:00 for the ADRs, you may say why what is so important about 5:00, I’ll lay you in on a big secret, most of the restaurants start dinner at 5:00 and it is empty so you can get in and out once it hits 6:00 you have the people outside waiting to get in because it starts to back up around then and the later it gets the more it backs up,
At 5:00 you don’t have to wait for the person who takes there sweet ole time eating and then has to have 3 cups of coffee at dessert and is there for over 2 hours☕😲😤

But what if I want to wait for 2 hours?

While there is nothing more Disney than waiting in a line, if you decide you want to wait in line for two hours, those two hours will become four. But then again, it's just more of what you want since it's the most magical place on earth.
What's the record for line standing at Disney? I bet it's a lot.
Someone put Guinness on standby!
That's just your occupation talking...
you'll snap out if it after a couple more Mondays.
Great! I've only got one Monday this week. Happens this Friday. Coincidentally, today is the 2nd Friday. (First Friday was the midnight shift earlier today). I only have two more Fridays to go before the weekend... which is Thursday this week.

Like I said... that should snap you right out of it.
