DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Vineyard and they put names on signs. This one was owned by Alf.

First wine. Apologies...I'm not good at selfies.

The owner...or one of them, Michael. 15th generation.

Little tidbit I learned today...
The Mosel region was only allowed (by law) to produce white wines until 1989. Not sure the point behind the law, but the same could be said about many US laws. They had a pretty good rose and a red I liked. I'm not a big red fan, so considering they've had a short time to produce them, I was doubly impressed.

Got to first stop (wine tasting) around 0930 I think. May have been closer to 1000.
Tried 8 or 9 different wines. I think it was 9, but forgot to take a picture on one.
I'm surprised you remember anything after trying 8-9 wines
After that, we were able to buy some of the ones we liked.
Did you?
Shnitzel and fries. Would have like potato salad or spatzle better, but oh well.
Yeah, that's a weird combo... Agree with you potato salad or spatzle...
Last stop was a set of sister towns with one on wach side of the river.
Remember the names?
Except the bus ride back.
One of the guys (that's spelled I D I O T) had had too much beer and wine and was a loud obnoxious person (see spelling of guys above).
Why do you never have duct tape when you need it?
:sad2:
First wine. Apologies...I'm not good at selfies.
Nah. All good.
Noticed the mask... what are the rules there like?
The owner...or one of them, Michael. 15th generation.
Huh!

I'm surprised you remember anything after trying 8-9 wines
Well, considering how much they put in each glass, maybe two glasses total.

Wine tasting vs drinking.

There were a few that started on the bus before we got there and kept going throughout the day.
Yes. Would have gotten more, but their credit card machine wasn't working and I only had so much cash €.

Yeah, that's a weird combo... Agree with you potato salad or spatzle...
I think it's regional. Every place I've been to thus far has done fries. Maybe cheaper. They follow the French naming though...Pomme frites.

Remember the names
Had to look them up from the tour description and the find on map.

Also saw the museum and bought some beer.
My take from the winery and abby beer store:

Bernkastel–Kues
Bernkastel, as you can hopefully surmise from the name is where the castle was.
Kues was sister city on other side of the Mosel

Nah. All good.
Noticed the mask... what are the rules there like?
Mask and vaccination (had to go to German Pharmacy (Apotheke) to get the EU QR code version for tour. Most restaurants want to see vaccination proof and mask until seated.
Once we got in wine tasting, Michael said since we're going to be tasting wine, kinda senseless. That was the first wine and I took the mask fully off shortly therafter.

The vineyards and winery has been in their family for 15 generations now.

Well he does seem to be laying down in a couple of those pictures.
I can neither confirm nor deny I laid down. Maybe after the climb to the castle. Can't really tell how high, but it was a long steep climb. Steps for first maybe 1/4 to 1/3 and then it was tough climb.

Unfortunately, the trek back, while easier from an exertion standpoint, was bad also....having to lean back and keep myself from going forward too fast or falling put a lot of stress on my knees and calves. By the time I got near the bottom, both were very unhappy with me and trembling with each stair.

I will fully admit...I'm not in good shape...I sit at a desk all day and can't run due to prior fracture of vertebrae. Once I get settled in my apartment, I hope I can find a gym that isn't closed because of rona and start doing stair stepper, elliptical and/or swimming.

Morning all. Happy Monday!

Interesting day yesterday.
Had zero planned (other than some chores... reminds me, need to put the shirts in the dryer.)
Wound up taking a car for a test drive (2022 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring - 6 speed manual.) Not positive, but thinking of buying it. It's literally the only new Honda Civic in the whole city (and surrounding area.) Apparently Civics are so popular and so in demand that if you want one, you have to order it and wait until one gets built. I suspect because this one's a manual, 90% of the people looking for cars can't drive it.
Afterwards, went out to our favourite hot dog diner that's just out of town. Fun little retro place with really good dogs. Got this little baby after for dessert:

Yes, that's a pineapple Dole Whip. Mmmmmm...
While it's not the same as Disney (I was already pretty full from dinner and the temp was around the freezing mark instead of the broiling mark), it was still really good.

After that, I figured a relaxing evening and then early bed (was up a bit late the night before.) My youngest DD texted me asking if I wanted to go to a movie. 10:30 start. Home by 1. I thought about it... I have to work today at 2:30pm, so getting home by 1 or so still gives me time. I said yes. She meant 10:30 last night and home by 1am... I thought "what the heck" and we went and saw the new (ish) Spiderman. Really enjoyed it. :thumbsup2

Got home afterwards and didn't fall asleep until hours later. Maybe 4am? And then woke up for some unknown reason at 7:30am.
I'm a bit tired.

There were a few that started on the bus before we got there and kept going throughout the day.
I'm sure they were fine.

:rolleyes1
I think it's regional. Every place I've been to thus far has done fries. Maybe cheaper. They follow the French naming though...Pomme frites.
Huh... I guess it is fairly close to France/Luxembourg/Belgium there. Regional influence, as you say.

Yeah... that just looks wrong.
My take from the winery and abby beer store:
Not a bad score.
Bernkastel–Kues

Nope. Don't know it/never heard of it. :)

Ah, okay. We just lifted our mask requirements earlier this week. What's the talk over there on the new variant?

While it's not the same as Disney
To me, that is now a positive vs. Negative.
Means it will be cheaper and not have 20 levels of hell to go through to get it.

I was already pretty full from dinner and the temp was around the freezing mark instead of the broiling mark
That does make a difference. I'm not as motivated towards a cold treat when it's cold.
Hot tea or hot chocolate...different story.

She meant 10:30 last night and home by 1am.
Funny, that is what I figured automatically. You must've already been tired if you were thinking the next day.

Got home afterwards and didn't fall asleep until hours later. Maybe 4am? And then woke up for some unknown reason at 7:30am.
I'm a bit tired.
Sorry, but the one saving grace is it *IS* something you're accustomed to.

Yeah... that just looks wrong.
Agreed. Since it was a group of 38, I do understand though...kinda a mass production scenario. If I go back there(highly possible), I will be able to order it with potato salad (kartoffelsalat) or spatzle or both.

Not a bad score.
True, but would have been more if their credit card machine had been working. They had a cherry(kirsche) licquor that was really good.

What's the talk over there on the new variant?
Don't know. Don't hear much news except on AFN radio and they play so much rap and hip hop, I have it turned down at least half of the time. I think I've heard rumors of the masks no longer being necessary starting 21st(tomorrow)

Morning folks. Happy Tuesday.

It's gonna be weird next week when my Monday is the same as everyone else's on the planet.
To me, that is now a positive vs. Negative.
Means it will be cheaper and not have 20 levels of hell to go through to get it.
Valid point. And a crying shame it's come to that.
That does make a difference. I'm not as motivated towards a cold treat when it's cold.

While technically I agree... here we eat cold in the cold. We've been the Slurpee capital of the world for 22 years running. (Google it if you think I'm kidding.)
Funny, that is what I figured automatically. You must've already been tired if you were thinking the next day.
Lately, I'm always tired. I need a vacation.
Sorry, but the one saving grace is it *IS* something you're accustomed to.
I find I'm getting more and more tired and sleeping worse and worse. Vicious cycle.

Ah.

Really! That'll be nice.
:thumbsup2

Can't have that. I think that will cause a rip in the space time continuum.

While technically I agree... here we eat cold in the cold. We've been the Slurpee capital of the world for 22 years running. (Google it if you think I'm kidding.)
Don't need to. You've told me before or it was on one of your TRs. (Or both)

Lately, I'm always tired. I need a vacation.
Yes and we need a TR.

I find I'm getting more and more tired and sleeping worse and worse. Vicious cycle.
:sad2:

Yeah, sorry about that. I did that last time it happened.
Don't need to. You've told me before or it was on one of your TRs. (Or both)
Probably both!
Yes and we need a TR.
Maybe. It just seems that a lot of the people who used to read and kibitz aren't on the DIS anymore. There's still a handful left, but... there used to be tons more.

Evening Everyone,

Today was definitely Monday. Getting up this morning can only be described as a resurrection and the day dragged by. Thankfully, it was an easy day at work, just busy. It seems all the flowers decided to bloom at once and my allergies are driving me absolutely crazy. The normal meds aren't doing much.... I may have to try something stronger.

We watched Turning Red this weekend. While it is not a movie I will be going out of my way to see again, it isn't necessarily bad, just different. If you are wanting classic Disney or Pixar, this is not it (but I said the same about Encanto). There is a good moral to the story and The Kid did say it is a good representation of what it is like to be a middle school girl with all the challenges that entails. My advice, watch it with an open mind and without any preconceived notions.

Yeah, sorry about that. I did that last time it happened.

I thought I smelled something funny. :rotfl:

oooohhh.... I gotta remember that one.

Like moving to Canada? Spring ain't gonna sprung here for a while yet. Instant reprieve!

I watched it with the SWMBO and DD25... we all liked it.
