I'm surprised you remember anything after trying 8-9 wines
Well, considering how much they put in each glass, maybe two glasses total.
Wine
tasting vs drinking.
There were a few that started on the bus before we got there and kept going throughout the day.
Yes. Would have gotten more, but their credit card machine wasn't working and I only had so much cash €.
Yeah, that's a weird combo... Agree with you potato salad or spatzle...
I think it's regional. Every place I've been to thus far has done fries. Maybe cheaper. They follow the French naming though...Pomme frites.
Had to look them up from the tour description and the find on map.
Walter J. Winery, in Ediger-Eller
Wine tasting
Cistercian abbey of Machern for lunch
Also saw the museum and bought some beer.
My take from the winery and abby beer store:
Bernkastel–Kues
Bernkastel, as you can hopefully surmise from the name is where the castle was.
Kues was sister city on other side of the Mosel
Nah. All good.
Noticed the mask... what are the rules there like?
Mask and vaccination (had to go to German Pharmacy (Apotheke) to get the EU QR code version for tour. Most restaurants want to see vaccination proof and mask until seated.
Once we got in wine tasting, Michael said since we're going to be tasting wine, kinda senseless. That was the first wine and I took the mask fully off shortly therafter.
The vineyards and winery has been in their family for 15 generations now.
Well he does seem to be laying down in a couple of those pictures.
I can neither confirm nor deny I laid down. Maybe after the climb to the castle. Can't really tell how high, but it was a long steep climb. Steps for first maybe 1/4 to 1/3 and then it was tough climb.
Unfortunately, the trek back, while easier from an exertion standpoint, was bad also....having to lean back and keep myself from going forward too fast or falling put a lot of stress on my knees and calves. By the time I got near the bottom, both were very unhappy with me and trembling with each stair.
I will fully admit...I'm not in good shape...I sit at a desk all day and can't run due to prior fracture of vertebrae. Once I get settled in my apartment, I hope I can find a gym that isn't closed because of rona and start doing stair stepper, elliptical and/or swimming.
