DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
That's lovely. How have they done it? Crayon? I might get the kids on that.

Between this and the FB stuff, you've probably seen enough of my kids.

They used tole paint. The center portion was done by his girlfriend, all free hand. Declan taped off a pattern on both sides and then painted.

Keep those videos and pictures coming Brother; they always put a smile on my face.

Hey, Gents! Not much to report here except to say that for most of today I thought it was Thursday. *sigh* At least it's been a good day.

Good luck, but... yeah... you've been down this road before.

Exactly, so we'll see how this goes.

That's all you can do.

Social distancing... if you can do it... then I don't see the problem.

Exactly! The problem comes from one of the beaches here in Falmouth being overrun with people who came up north to escape the virus down south. They think that because they are up here and away from the big city, they can ignore the social distancing.

Like others have said. Career change. Permanent vs temp. Doing a job vs doing something that you actually want to do.

Wow! Realized I never responded to this, sorry. Leaving a temp job is the easy to explain in an interview, "My current position is only temporary and I'm looking for something permanent." it's when I take a full-time/permanent job just to pay the bills that it becomes harder to leave for something better if I've only been there for a few months to a year or more...for me it's harder. For me it's harder because (I think I've mentioned this before) I tend to be loyal to the people I work for, almost to a fault. I know, no one's going to show me that same loyalty to me when push comes to shove. However, because I've been worried about this, I've been doing some research about this. One career website I read said to be honest and say that "I took the job because I needed it, but I am looking at changing careers, and this aligns with my needs or blah blah blah" something like that. This is me, I just need to have something ready in my head for when it happens. So basically, I'm not worried.

Morning folks.
Little to report. Will go with run number 5 today. See how that goes.

Just wanted to let you know that I've decided to get back to working out myself.

Well guys, looks like we'll be buying a new house. Although we didn't get as good of a deal as we'd hoped, still, for what we're getting better than this house, it's good. As of right now, we're planning on closing towards the end of May (near DW's birthday).

orning, Gents! Well, it's Thursday, one more day closer to Friday and the weekend, though I'm not sure what that means since we can't go anywhere, but it'll be two days off of work, right? Most of you guys know I've been looking for a full-time, permanent job for a while now, and it's getting old. So I've decided that I'm enlisting the help of the local veterans rep at the local career center. I have a call scheduled with him for Friday morning before I head into work to talk about my skills, goals and what not. Did I mention that this guy also happens to be a buddy of mine in my VFW post? I also think that part of of the problem has been me. And what I mean by that is that I'm not writing my cover letters in such a way that I'm spelling out exactly what the potential employer needs, or wants. So I've been analyzing my skills and how I can apply them to different jobs and trying to write cover letters to match. Either way, I'm hoping that good things will come my way this year. Well, that's all I have to say for now. Have a good day, everyone.

I have no idea why I haven't thought of this before, but have you looked on vetjobs.com?

We did Italy in the eating round the world challenge last night, so we had Chicken Milanese with Gelato, in Pinocchios Palace

These kids aren't going to want to go back to regular school. Quarantine rules!

Between this and the FB stuff, you've probably seen enough of my kids.

Nah, they're way better-looking than the fellas in here.

Hey, congratulations! Hope you enjoy the new digs.

Wait, WHAT?? When did this happen?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. :duck::laughing:

Morning all.

One more day of work and it will be a 4 day weekend. :dancer:

Crappy weather forecast here for tonight into tomorrow. Depending on who you believe we will get any where from 4 to 10 inches of snow. The good thing about April snow is that it is usually gone within a day or two.

Hope everyone is staying well and you are all still talking to your family members. ;)

Speaking as some one who does hire on occasion, when I look at a cover letter I'm looking more at how you write than what you write. Typos and glaring grammar errors will probably move you to the bottom of the pile. Your resume is what I look for to see if I want to interview you.

That being said, you still need a good cover letter.

Good luck.

Hey!!!

Who am I kidding, you're right.

As an IT guy, the whole cover letter and no more than a 1 page resume (or 2 if you absolutely must) rule are out the window. Both for when I'm hiring or being hired, the cover letter is almost never used and my resume (and many in IT) are 4-5 pages. When I look at resumes, I look for can the person do the job and a very short resume doesn't give enough detail as to what they've done (from a technical standpoint).

As I said, for me in the IT world...most fields still subscribe to those "rules".

Morning chaps from a sunny London. More FB shenanigans, now into the American restaurant for Epcot. I need to go back to work for a rest.

This. I've recruited about 1000 people in my career between temps and Full timers, and I still remember the ones that were spelt wrong or had bad grammar. A particular highlight was a guy who claimed to be working FT in a restaurant "cocking in the kitchen". Actually, now I think of it, maybe it wasn't a typo.

Congrats buddy, that's awesome! Budgie smugglers round Doc's it is.

This is the most British sign off I have seen on here. And I would include all of my posts in that.

Have a great day fellas.

We had that yesterday. Sunny... 5 minutes later snowing and we got about 2-3 inches. Then it all melted. And then it snowed again in the evening and accumulated again. I haven't looked outside, since.

So glad we're not getting snow. We are, however, getting thunderstorms and damaging winds (weather apps' wording) this afternoon.

Thanks for the insight, it really helps. I would like to think I have a good writing style and, though I'm by no means grammar police, grammar. It does, however, give me something to think about.
