Hey guys,

My name is Tom from Chicago.

40yrs old
Married 11 years
3 daughters 11,8,3

Been to WDW many times, but this year we're doing Thanksgiving. We're also driving down for the first time.

A little freaked about crowd level, but I think with enough planning and a patient mindset, we should be ok.

Soccer? Is that European football? The one where people run around for 45 minutes at a time and fake injuries?

Sorry I can't help you. But if I could, I wouldn't. We need to up our nemesis game. We've gone soft. I did hear Bambi say on numerous occasions that we are the worse nemesisisisis ever.
She might be right. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to pick up my yard and see it will cost to ship 80 lbs of dog poop to CT.

Barry, loved the pics on Facebook
:thumbsup2

I was wondering who would jump on that first. Congrats, Randall. :thumbsup2

I had a lousy draft in another league too. One of those drafts where the guys you really want seem to go 1 or 2 picks before your turn.
No offense, but I hope I get to pick 1 or 2 spots ahead of you. I'll be unstoppable!

3. Tell them to have fun.
I think this is the only one that matters.

And yes you're crazy
:wave2:

U8 Rec soccer is all about making sure the kids practice basic skills and have fun. Try this link to help you out.

Thanks!

Yes, you're crazy, and I don't know anything about youth soccer.
:wave2:

There are about 10 basic soccer foot skills. If you can learn those and teach those to the kids each practice, then things are great. I used to spend my hour practices with 15 minutes individual skills (everyone has ball), 15 minutes passing (groups of 2 or 3), 15 minutes game strategy (throw in, corner kick), and 15 minutes of scrimmage, with breaks thrown in there.

As Mark said, teach them the positions, but expect them to struggle. Playing in space and playing without the ball are difficult concepts to grasp for some, even at older levels. It will be worse if you have some DB administrator on your rec league stacking the teams so his child can be grand champion of the world.

Thanks Norm!

Good news - just as I was emailing them about coaching, they sent an email saying we have a coach. It's the dad of one of the new players, so I don't know anything about him. I'm still studying up on everything, just in case he needs a hand.

Hi Tom! I'm just north of you in Wisconsin and we've driven twice - straight through the night both times. Good luck and have a great trip!

Wow, Aaron posted here, the next thing would be if Dave pop over from the "Where in the World is"...Photo game thread and said hi.

Welcome. Dues are payable in dole whips, bacon, beer, or cake. You mail enough for 800 or so to me, and I will mail them to everyone else. We usually go in October with school Fall Break, but have considered Thanksgiving week next year. Let us know how it goes. :thumbsup2

Welcome to the funny farm.

Just got back from the dentist. Teeth were fine, I just go now because I miss the pain. Actually, I had a crown put on. I am starving because I missed lunch but my mouth is so numb I am afraid of biting my tongue off if I eat.

Quick - tell me everything you guys know about coaching U8 recreational soccer.

I want to make sure the kids have a dependable coach, but on the other hand, I'm not sure what I can teach them besides "see that net over there? kick the ball into it." Am I crazy?

Good luck with that.

DW and I actually had a similar discussion about DD's spring soccer team when they needed another coach. Except I claimed that I would be the best coach in the league because I was once a paid member of a professional soccer team.

Which is true. ::yes:: I was their accountant. The accountant who would skip the games because he hated soccer so much and couldn't understand anything that was going on past "they're kicking the ball all over the f'n place"... DW finally convinced me to not volunteer, for the kids' sake... :confused3

We'll be in WDW over Thanksgiving week.

As it turns out, another friend and his family will be there that same time.

The wives and kids are planning some time together in the early evening.

My friend and I were thinking we could find a nice watering hole and BS for a while.

I'd rather check out some places in the resorts if there's any worth checking out.

I'm open to Downtown as well.

Just a few good beers kind of place in a realxed atmosphere.

Being a Phillies fan...yes. I desperately need to watch a different sport. I even watched a couple of World Cup games out of sheer desperation.
Call me next time that happens. Kind of like AA where they have a sponsor. If things EVER become that desperate , call me and I'll keep you from falling off the wagon again.

its keeper!!!!
Correction: It is it's, not its. Savvy?

What have you heard? I didn't know it was that bad.
Like many of the clubs we have that we mustn't speak of, some of us wager on 40-something amateur tennis games. We've been using your posts as insider recon and wagering significant amounts of money. The vig on your matches is telling us how bad your game is. Sorry we had to tell you in this manner. Oh, and your wife was in on it, thus the pasta and inevitable weight gain. :lmao:

Im way late in this advice, but mashed potatoe soup. Make mashed potatoes, add more butter and milk to thin it out to milkshake thickness. Use straw and suck with your tongue in the back part of your mouth.

Of course every time I had dental work my grandfather took me to my favorite pasta place to laugh at me trying to eat really slowly. Or just drink iced coffee and take the food home until I can feel my entire mouth again...
