DIS Dads DDC XXXII: A Dole Whip in Paradise

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Big Night here... DW had "The Talk" with DD... :scared1:

Let me be the first to say, I do not envy you right now!

:faint: I think we are getting close to that point here too...:headache:

Nothing a stiff drink won't fix...

Supporting, and helping... hell no! :rotfl2:

We agreed she would have the talk with DD, and I would with DS... bought myself a couple years.
We kibnda were forced to... school is still in for another week and a half, and they sent a newsletter home saying this week they will be learning about it, so please talk to them before hand.
Actually guys, it went really well. She wasn't shocked, or grossed out... she took it quite well, and had just a couple questions which DW handled like a pro.

SWMBO will have to handle that in a few years with DD theoretically, though DD won't be allowed to date as long as I am alive and not senile.
You guys crack me up - wait till they are 19 / 20 it gets a lot worse. The first clown that breaks your DDs heart, staying up late waiting for them, etc as well as some of the sitcom funny situations for Dads related to bras and such. But that's why we all took the job of Dad, if it was easy anyone would do it. Hang in there guys and best of luck.

Good morning guys! We all had a good first day home yesterday. We played soccer, taught the newer kids to hit a ball (plastic set from Grandma), and had lots of laughs! Unfortunately, my twins both have colds so last night was an early night for them. DW is adjusting to the time difference well. I let her sleep in yesterday while I took care of breakfast. For those who don't yet know, electric griddles rock!! I was cooking six pancakes at a time.

Welocome home, glad everyone is adjusting. Hopefully the twins get better soon.

You know you're getting old when it takes two or three tries to get off the couch.

:thumbsup2 Amen. The other night I just slept in my chair because i couldnt get up to go get in bed.

I've been wondering at what age that talk happens. I think my mom jumped the gun and explained things to me when I was somewhere around 7. She used a book called "Where Did I Come From". DW wants to wait on those talks but I have no idea what the "right" age is.

Good morning Dads - nice to see it a bit more lively around here the last day or so. Nice result and exciting game from USA team last night. Still cracking me up about the talk talk :)

Great to hear all are together safe and sound and hope the colds clear up quick. How about taking the family around in one of these?

Another beautiful day. Played tennis again last night and can hardly walk this morning. DW asked why I was moving my arms and I told her it was to attempt to get my legs moving. I should have just stayed sitting on the couch. :crazy2:

Here's to Tony Gwynn. Never was a Padres fan, but he was a great hitter, and from the articles, a good man.

Also, go team USA. Are we up against Portugal?
To Tony Gwynn as well.

Great win by USA but they were facing an uphill battle with Portugal and Germany but now with the injuries? Altidore looked like his hamstring was hit by a shotgun and how do you play a full match without being able to breath normal, Dempsey's broken nose. Plus the one they are not talking as much about is Besler, losing your top center defender with Rinaldo up next?

Shaking my head in shame as my nation embarrassed me beyond all belief.
:thumbsup2

Great idea!

Of course, we could always go back to that monorail car that was for sale on Ebay a few weeks ago. Mount that sucker onto a ton truck chassis and you're rollin' in style with plenty of room for all the kids... and their friends. :thumbsup2

Big Night here... DW had "The Talk" with DD... :scared1:

I let my wife make the first attempt with my daughter. My daughter got so freaked out by the idea of little tiny eggs inside her that she didn't get to the rest. :scared1: :rotfl2:

I'm glad everyone is home and starting to settle in. If you're going to get a passenger van, at least go with A-Team colors.

A fine illustration of why the one invention that has truly changed our country the most…

The text message.

is air-conditioning.

Oh. That too, I guess.

I've been wondering at what age that talk happens. I think my mom jumped the gun and explained things to me when I was somewhere around 7. She used a book called "Where Did I Come From". DW wants to wait on those talks but I have no idea what the "right" age is.

We went for 10 years old or so with my daughter and oldest son. As I mention, my daughter wasn't fond of the conversation. My son seemed to take it in stride. We thought that was around the age where the topic would start to come up in school (health class or casual conversation), be mentioned in the movies they watch, etc.

:thumbsup2

I think that would be awesome. However, with 8 in our family I think we will just keep driving ourselves.

DW had the "punctuation" talk with both dds when they started 4th grade. But, neither have had any grammatical episodes, so all is good. As for the other talk, I have noticed the boys notice my 12 year old. She however still thinks 'squirrel' and doesn't pay them any attention.

At least it was 19.

Shaking my head in shame as my nation embarrassed me beyond all belief.
And we’ve done little to redeem ourselves since.
:

While grateful for our legal protections, that whole sham was ridiculous.

You know you're getting old when it takes two or three tries to get off the couch.

Only two or three? Now I'm really scared. :scared1:

SWMBO will have to handle that in a few years with DD theoretically, though DD won't be allowed to date as long as I am alive and not senile. DS wants nothing to do with women thankfully, because I've forgotten how it all works.
.

Yes, DW makes those same ground breaking rules. "If you don't clean you're room, then no Disney vacation this year.". Not really a deterrent when there is no chance of it happening.

Good Morning All. Trying to play catch up as usual.

Congratulations to the San Antonio Spurs, they were a far better team than Miami. Lots of changes will be coming to the Heat next year which will hopefully confined to the bench. It is nice to see a class act like Duncan win another championship even at the expense of my hometown team.

Notice how I didn't even send the expected nemesis "haha" message. It was Fathers Day so I figured I would let you enjoy it. Sent a reply to your PM this morning.

Good guess but nope lol

Good Morning everyone, I am so glad DD doesn't have someone's birthday party to go to next weekend, after back to back weekends of parties, it's good to know nothings planned for a weekend.

Have any of y'all been to Great Wold Lodge? DD talked me into an overnight trip for our little summer trip and I've never been but it looks like a blast!

We have not been. Almost stayed there once. Let us know how it is. There is a new one that just opened in New England and we were thinking maybe a long weekend this winter.

Morning Guys, welcome to another Monday.

The good news (for me) is that I am two weeks away from a vacation, including a Red Sox game and a cruise to Bermuda with no kids!!

Have a good one.

Your coming to Boston?:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Morning all. Another beautiful day here. My FIL retired on Friday, which I guess is close to the greatest Father's Day of all. He came over for shrimp n grits father's day/ retirement lunch yesterday. He is only 61, but after having the hip replacement and the then gall stones experience, I guess it's enough for him. He'll continue to get health insurance through work (40 years aluminum plant), pension, and then his retirement savings.

My dad is retiring in a week once the school year ends. He worked for a state school as a teacher so gets a pretty good pension. My dad is 62 and has been partially retired for a few years. Finally decided to get out all together.

Congrats and good luck to FIL.

Morning guys!

Hey Paul. Keep July 30th open. I hear CJ wants to be abused by the northern chapter of DisDads for a day.

Monday morning no working ownage.

No internet at work today. So, I'll play on my phone awhile, take a nap, and then go get the dds and have some fun this afternoon. DW wanted both in summer camp activities so they didn't sit around and get fat like me. Oldest is at swim now and youngest at soccer.

We usually send them to camps to prevent them from killing each other.:lmao::lmao: Only a few camps this year as we have a shortened summer due to snow days and 2 trips planned. DS is going to caddy and make some cash. Also looking for a part time job for the summer. Hard to find for a 14 year old.

Guys-

I need MNSSHP advice. I can go to the party on Oct 30 or 31. Does it make a difference? The number of hard tickets for the event should be the same, right? Not sure how to make this decision.

I would say the 30th would be the better day as it is a Thursday. Halloween on a Friday not would would be scary.

Big Night here... DW had "The Talk" with DD... :scared1:

And you immediately sat down with her after and explained all boys are now off limits and you have weapons to and a place to bury the body.:rolleyes1

Sounds like a great day!

Barry, congrats on the play set score. I loved seeing the pics. I only wish Ryder wasn't so serious in all of them, lol

Andy, nice job on the ADR's!

Brian, no need for the "talk" here. All four of my girls will be nuns so I'm just skipping over that part.

Prayers and good vibes to those who need them!

Nice moment at the airport reunion. Sorry to hear about the girls and hope they feel better soon. And just a warning, I tried the, "Get thee to a Nunnery" bit and it didn't work out so well. Good luck but I do have to tell you, Fantasyland is in Orlando not Indiana.

Morning Guys,

Looks like another nice day here in the east. Couple pf meetings today but otherwise it should be a quiet day.

So where where you on this day:

oj_simpson_the_chase.jpg_c314ea24366a75dc9923e5b639857ed3

Probably working. Do have my own OJ story. I was at the vet late picking up my dog and he was there getting his dogs. This was post trial, pre current incarceration. The Office Assistant was explaining how much he owed and he told her he can give her a couple of hundred now and the rest later. I didn't even acknowledge his presence when I payed my bill. When I left, he was still there trying to get them to accept a payment plan. Funny and sad at the same time.

I am right there with you. And to add, learning to drive and their first solo trip, waiting for them to get ready putting on makeup and oh so many other things. This is going to be fun. I'll get the lawn chairs and beer, you bring the popcorn.

Good morning Ownage! hope all is well. How close are we to a "race to close the thread"? I'm 90 post from 2k lol

Nope, but feel free to make a run for 2K anyway. Never stopped anyone else from post padding around here.

Still working on the transportation part. We won't be going to alot of places this summer that we can't just use two vehicles. I am looking at those passenger vans, but really have my eye on this:

http://www.nissancommercialvehicles.com/nv-passenger

Now that is a nice ride!

What about this?

bus2000.jpg

What happens on the Partridge family bus stays on the partridge family bus.:lmao::lmao:

Another beautiful day. Played tennis again last night and can hardly walk this morning. DW asked why I was moving my arms and I told her it was to attempt to get my legs moving. I should have just stayed sitting on the couch. :crazy2:

You should have said that you need to warm them up prior to the drinking episode about to take place. Then ask her to get you some beer from the fridge since your legs are on strike.

SWMBO will have to handle that in a few years with DD theoretically, though DD won't be allowed to date as long as I am alive and not senile. DS wants nothing to do with women thankfully, because I've forgotten how it all works.

DD has not shown any interest so far. We did have a short discussion about boys being mean and what it really means. The talks have started sort of, but hoping for another year or two. Of course with DD being 5'5", blue eyes and sandy blonde/brown hair, she is starting to attract attention. :sad2::sad2:

She mentioned some girls and a few boys that started to make fun of her for wearing Disney shirts in school. Being the great dad I am, we went out and bought a few more (as well as some shorts) and she will be wearing them every day now until the end of school. When asked what she should do if they say something, I told her to channel her inner Donald Duck and kick some a$$.:thumbsup2

I don't think Portugal realized the World Cup had started. It will be interesting to see what they do the next game.

It may be a battle on attrition by Sunday. Whomever can field the healthier team wins. Looks like Portugal and Spain came expecting to just walk through the pool rounds.

You guys crack me up - wait till they are 19 / 20 it gets a lot worse. By 19/20, I will have already have buried several bodies in the back yard and the boys will have learned to stay away.:thumbsup2 We did already do the "bra" shopping thing. My recommendation is Victoria Secret. They will whisk her away and do it all for you. Yup, it costs a little more, but is well worth it.

I've been wondering at what age that talk happens. I think my mom jumped the gun and explained things to me when I was somewhere around 7. She used a book called "Where Did I Come From". DW wants to wait on those talks but I have no idea what the "right" age is.

7:confused3 Not sure I even knew girls were different at 7. We are waiting until DD shows some interest. So far, sports and daddy spoiling her has prevented her from heading in that direction.

Closest for me was before 2nd trial. OJ went to a steak house in Louisville before derby and owner refused to serve him. He made a big scene and claimed racism. The restaurant burnt down some months later. Hmmmm......

My 12 year old wants to try and be cute, but she just forgets and wants to be a kid. She'll want a cool shirt, get to the store, see a pink outfit, and lose her mind because it is pink. Happy for her to still be a kid.

.

Unfortunately, Victoria's Secret is not an option. Everyone notices now when I stop talking and can't look away during the tv commercials.

I let my wife make the first attempt with my daughter. My daughter got so freaked out by the idea of little tiny eggs inside her that she didn't get to the rest. :scared1: :rotfl2:
.

There are eggs inside them? She's a girl, not a bird. No wonder she got confused. How did you ever have four children thinking this way? :confused3 :lmao:

Cross posting…

So, We’re back from our Discovery Cove / Sea World trip. It was a great trip filled with lots of surprises and a good bit of rain as well. We swam with Dolphins, fed Sting Rays, and got splashed by Whales. Lots of unforgettable moments this trip.

We also got to hang out with Michael Williams on one of our Sea World park days. He’s a great guy and I’m glad that we had the chance to hang out with him at a park that he is so knowledgeable about (He works at both Sea World and Universal Studios). He is a wealth of inside information and tips and was also able to handle my VERY talkative seven year old girl throughout the day. We were even able to talk him into going to Dinner and DTD with us that evening.

Drove home yesterday and back to work today. I had hoped that coming back to work on a Tuesday would be less painful than a Monday. Ah well, back to the dry job stuff.

Would wish you a welcome back but that would be cruel. Sounds like a great trip though.

Found this on Youtube. It is a Wonderful World show about Disneyland. Long, about 45 minutes but it was interesting look at early Disneyland. I can only imagine what today's Disney lawyers would say about some of the attractions and liability issues.

You got it, right there with ya. So many others to add but let's keep 'em to ourselves to ensure we do not reduce the laughs :rotfl:

I'll make sure I bring the voodoo doll back, how about that? :confused3

Paul has a new job! Plenty of extra cash laying around now.:lmao::lmao:

Did Paul mention that he also just bought a new house (or more specifically, that DW bought a new house he will be financing :rotfl:):confused3 Not sure where all that extra cash will be found now! :headache:
