DIS Dads DDC XXXII: A Dole Whip in Paradise

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Good morning gentlemen.

I have time to briefly check in and report that Sean's Gungan assassins haven't got me yet.

Between my crazy hours, DW wanting to paint the house, and not having much child care there hasn't time to check in.

Wow, my 1500th post. I want to thank all of you. If you all didn't accept that I refuse to multiquote and that I notoriously pad my posts, I wouldn't have gotten here.

Who wants to go to the World? Barry is buying!
Congrats nemie.

‘Morning all…
Should be a light day ‘round here.
The Brazilians that own the company are all in a particularly fine mood and not paying the rest of us much attention.
Must be time for a nap.

Greetings, gents! Hope all is well. I've been following along with the FB group but felt a void in my heart since I haven't been on the boards for a while.

I know Summer just got here but I am already in DIS CON mode for our November trip. I think I'm actually going to focus on wrapping up my TR from last October! I think it's protocol to finish the initial before staring the next one.

Good to hear from you sir. So are you at DISCON-2 or DISCON-3. Just want to be sure we’ve got the level of urgency correct here.
Enjoy the trip; it will still be quite some time before I can get back down there.

Got back from Key Largo yesterday. Very pleasurable trip with good friends. We also mapped out our plans for the trip to Belize next April. The Brit and I were the only ones going but the Pirate Princess got added along with the couple we dove with this weekend.

Ahhhh…
The life of CJ.

Beats any summer job I’ve ever encountered

Congrats on a methodical 1500.

Wait, I thought Carl was buying…
I’d be in, but maybe we better see what Barry thinks about this

Who's this "Barry" you speak of? You know another one?:confused3

Yah… that’s what I suspected. :lmao:

Tony & Norm - nice job on the meetup. I hope you enjoyed your mocha tall grande nonfat half calf venti espresso caramel frap whip with sprinkles.
Can somebody give me the English interpretation of whatever this is??? :faint:

That’s an expensive milkshake.

Basically that’s pretty much all folks seem to purchase there.
Expensive high calorie milkshakes that share a subtle background note of burnt coffee.
We don’t call it CharBuck$ for nothing.

Not a real coffee drink.

A more concise way of putting it. :rotfl2:

Morning guys.

Nice, have fun. WAIT A MINUTE! What happened to the cries of poverty because you bought a new house?
I worked a couple WDW trips into the mortgage agreement. :thumbsup2

Congrats, I think :confused3
Looking for some advice. When we head down to WDW in November, there are 2 other families heading down at the same time. The dads and I are rabid Steelers fans. It just so happens that the Steelers are playing the dreaded Ravens. I hope to be taunting Randall around 11:30 PM ET that night.

We are going to be dining at Ohana at 6:30. I was curious if anyone has stayed at the Tiki Bar to watch a game. I can of course watch the game at my resort (BLT) since it's a Sunday night game and obviously televised, so I have options.

I'd normally head to the ESPN Zone but it's not worth my time to trek over there for an 8:30 game.
I would head to Top of the World Lounge. We watched the Stanley Cup playoffs there last year as there are a couple of TVs.
There's nothing wrong with a coffee meet up, well the sprinkles are a bit much but to each their own, Norm is saving the beer and bourbon for Fridays meet up.
Hear that, only he gets to walk to a hotel we get to drive home.

Good to hear from ya. Been keeping up with the Episode VII rumors and Harison Ford's accident? DS keeps me up to speed and asked if you have been posting anything as he knows you're a big fan.

Actually, this is the best, clearest explanation. :thumbsup2

Well today is Fastpass+ day for us. I got up early and everything. I'm not much in to Character meet & greets but I was actually making an effort to get my girls to meet Anna and Elsa. They're completely booked up until our getaway day and that's just not going to work. I guess I'll just have to be there at rope drop and sprint to get them a spot in line without missing too much real park time. I checked the wait times today and with a 9:00 open at MK, there was a 150 minute wait as of 9:30. Granted, today is a 8 according to touring plans and we'll be there at a less crowded time of year. Any advice? Maybe try them at the very end of the day?:confused3

Mark- I just noticed your ticker. Where you going?

I've been trying. There's lots of stuff out there that is speculation couched as rumor. The Rebels rumors have n me very excited. Disney has really put a lot of effort and money into the franchise.

Morning Guys, welcome to Tuesday.

CJ...has this ever happened to any divers you know? ;)

Nah, we are smart enough to keep an eye on them.

For a summer job for a college kid, she sure has it rough, doesn't she? :lmao:

Looks like a fun time. I'm glad you were able to dive with her and take some of the coral restoration in first hand. I think that would be very interesting to see.

She is busy though. All in the name of padding her resume. The coral restoration is kind of neat. Reminds me a bit of watching astronauts train for space walks. You are nearly weightless and the work is pretty meticulous. Not easy to do and you have to focus on the task at hand.

Ahhhh…
The life of CJ.

Beats any summer job I’ve ever encountered.

Someone has to do it. Unlike my summer jobs during college, she isn't earning a nickel, so it better be fun.

Back from the RI trip. We went 2-2. Played the #1 team in New England. DS pitched 4 inning with 1 earned run. Not bad considering our other pitcher gave up 14 runs in the first inning (ouch). That was our first game and the loss eliminated us from the title game. Makes the next 3 a little less exciting. Great weather and DS got to hang with his teammates, so a pretty good weekend.

DD started summer hoops last night with a 24-12 victory. She had 8 points, 12 rebounds, a coupe assists and a few blocks. I explained to her what a quadruple double was and that is her new goal. At least one before the end of the summer season. Don't think it will happen, but wished her luck.

More games this week. DS plays tomorrow on his new team and then I coach DD and our winter town team later Wed. night against BIL/SIL and nieces team. I'm planning a romp in that one since it's family. Let's just hope it's us doing the romping.:good vibes

Hope everyone has a good week.

Morning Guys. Last week before vacation. :cool1:

Hope you all had a good weekend.

Travel safe. We'll be looking gout for you.

Morning guys.

In addition we'll be eating exclusively from toppings bars without buying anything, claiming that our 6 and 3 year old children are both only 2, putting towels and clothes at the best chair at the pool before going to the parks at 8 am to save them for later, and sitting on every bus, regardless of women/children that are standing. In short, the same as we always do. :thumbsup2

Hey, I thought you had no $$ left?:confused3 Liar.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Perhaps try to go on an EMH day for MK? Then the rope drop is even earlier, and you could get there right away. Even if it is not an EMH attraction, you could line up and have the family ride other things while you wait (its the DisDad thing to do... :cool1:)

I do believe that Fastpass+ day actually starts at midnight ET, which could explain how your dates/times got booked up so fast? Assuming you're booking at the 60 day window as an on-property guest?

Keep checking back, I saw changes in availability as our dates got closer.

Good luck! You're a good DisDad to want to make sure they get this!

Never watched a game in the Tiki bar. As a Patriots fan, I hope they end up with a tie.:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

We booked our FP+ last night. DD decided she didn't need to meet E&A and to just book the rides. As her reward for not making me go through that, I plan to get her a surprise gift - an Elsa dress to wear at MNSSHP in October. Got everything we wanted, including an afternoon and evening mine train (separate days). DS asked if we could just not plan as much and wing it. I told him that we would book the FP and if we decided to do something else, we can. If we are in the area or really want to ride, then we will.

With the M&G, I think the slower crowd times, you may be OK. By the fall I think things will slow down a little. How long can the craziness keep up?

Midnight? Ugh. Now I know it's better to stay up late to do FPs than to get up early. Touringplans suggests I just sprint at rope drop and the wait shouldn't be more than 10 minutes. I can live with that.

Read that there are now the slow "rope walks" at MK due to E&A and Mine Train so not sure you can run. I will look for it but the walk behind the ropes goes all the way down Main Street. Anyone been there recently for MK open?

I think if they thawed out Walt Disney himself and walked him down Main Street he still wouldn't be as big an attraction as Anna & Elsa.

Mark- I just noticed your ticker. Where you going?

You don't know? This was a test to see who bailed on reading my Hawaii TR. :rolleyes1:rotfl2:

Just messin' with ya. We're doing a loop through Nevada, SW Utah, Arizona, and California. It was hard finding a trip that would be new and unique for the older kids but had manageable driving times with a baby in the car. As it is, a couple of the drives might still be biting off more than we can chew.

If you're interested in the gory details, here's the relevant link.

She is busy though. All in the name of padding her resume. The coral restoration is kind of neat. Reminds me a bit of watching astronauts train for space walks. You are nearly weightless and the work is pretty meticulous. Not easy to do and you have to focus on the task at hand.

Not to mention all the sharks trying to eat you.

Cheap win for Uruguay. Quick red card for Italy and then a Suarez bites a player and nothing? Goal scored a minute later. US needs to win or I won't have anyone to root for.

Suarez should be done for the tournament. Will FIFA man up and make the right decision?

Not sure, was thinking of just going as a Team Sparrow pirate. Being a snowman would just bring on a lot of jokes and abuse. Still time to figure it out.

We are going Sunday, 10/5. Norm is planning on that night as well. I can't remember either, but I thought you were coming in after we are gone. We leave on the 8th. If you are there between the 3rd and the 8th, we'll have to say hi.

Hey nemie! US will most likely tie, even though everyone says they won't. neither team will push forward as it will expose them to losing. I would be surprised to see either be too aggressive.

Lebron is leaving South Beach? What did you do?
