Evening men! We heard back from the adoption agency we applied with and....We have been accepted!

...DD team finished 3rd in her tournament of 8 teams last night.

Home from basketball games. They each won their games, but more importantly, they each played their own individual game - oldest defense and youngest offense.

Congrats to the girls (and dads)!

Last night my son and I did our 1st Cub Scout Pinewood Derby, well I will admit I'm not a wood craftsman, we raced 4 races, 4 cars per race, we came in 4th 3 times and 3rd once The good news is I'm a fast learner and next year there is only room for improvement, I guess the Rain Gutter Regatta is up next so I hope I can redeem myself on that race

The one thing I'm grateful for is the Pack Leader is Old School and only 1st, 2nd 3rd place gets trophies, instead of giving everyone something just so no one feels bad, needless to say we weren't even close and in no way deserved one, but not winning gives us a reason to try harder next year, My son was sad but it's a valuable life lesson, you can't win every time

A life lesson and dad/son time is far more valuable than a trophy

Morning Dads. Scattered flurries this AM so church was cancelled. Gives me time to get ready for the weeks meetings, but hoping it doesn't delay the families return from OH.

I've worn contacts for the last 25 years or so. Still have a pair of glasses that I use as backup and in the evenings when I'm relaxing.

Daily? Bi-Weekly? Monthly? or Other?

I used to waer them about 20 years ago... wore 'em for a couple years, but then my eyes got sensitive to them, and couldn't wear them anymore.

Well a lot has changed since then (with the technology of contacts). They pair I had back then, were the same pair for the entire 2 years.
Now they don't do that anymore, you change them (as mentioned above) daily, bi-weekly, or monthly. This way there is no bacteria build up (even after washing) or cracks or ears (rips not crying) in the lenses. I think that was the problem with mine back then, is they just wore out. But by the time I realized it, my eyes were starting to get to sensitive.

I am going to try them again with ones that get replaced somewhat frequently, and see if the results are any better.

As for putting them in and taking them out, it's not really as hard or uncomfortable as you would think.

On a side note - I have ordered contact lenses, am going to get rid of the glasses for a while. Any contact lens wearing dads out there??

I wear contacts. I've had them for about 4 years now. I have soft lenses that I change every 2 months. Not a big fan of that, but my insurance covers them and it costs me nothing. I asked about doing something different, but for the cost, I deal with the downsides of what I have. By about half way through month 2 on a pair, they tend to get dry out by the end of the day and get some scratches in them.

Also like someone else mentioned, I wear glasses if I'm just going to be hanging around the house.

It is kind of hard the first time you take them out. I poked at my eye for 45 minutes the first night I had them. I had a hard time getting one of them out. I swore it rolled up and was stuck behind my eye lid, but finally just gave up and went to bed. I found it on the bathroom floor the next day.

Both my dad and I were terrible at those father/son craft things. "So what if the wheels are oval. Better than square." The thing about it is that when I saw your post I had an instant flashback to fond memories. Your son will remember it for years to come.

Woo-hoo! Won by 15 and now back in 2nd place entering the playoffs. Looking at some of the other scores, it seems we are playing better than most entering the playoffs. First game Wednesday night vs. the 7 seed.

It is quite shocking how thorough we will be vetted to adopt children. I wish my BIL had to go through the same process before he was allowed to breed

We will be chasing papers now for the next 6-8 weeks including getting finger printed. As an Italian American, I am not real comfortable walking into the FBI office here in Indy to get finge printed. They have been keeping us down since prohibition

You both won. Spending time making the car together is the lesson and the reward.

Even cooler is that you and DS did it together. I'm a believer in that old school approach. And that builds character. When you place next time, it will mean a heck of a lot more. I coach my DD's Tball team and they give a weekly award for different values (sportsmanship, listening, teamwork, etc.) and some kids will ask for the award. So I tell them on day 1...DO NOT ASK FOR THE AWARD! The medal is earned, not given like a present! I think it teaches the kids to work for what they want and that they do truly appreciate it more when they get it.

Agreed. Looks like we all have similar views. As they learn to earn their accolades, they'll have a better idea of what it takes to succeed in all things.

Hey Brian. I have been wearing contact since I was 14. Started wearing the due to sports. Glasses were always getting broken or needing to be cleaned. Now I wear the daily ones. They are more expensive, but no cleaning or having to worry about losing one and the expense of replacing.

From my experience, they actually help you see better since your peripheral vision is improved. Good luck. Just make sure if you get the ones you clean that they are rinsed completely before you put them in.

Been wearing contacts for about 20 years. I have astigmatism, so I have to wear toric lenses. The ones I have now are the monthly kind... have to take them out each night though. Love my contacts!

Same here. My dad didn't know how to do that stuff either, so the only father/son time we had was throwing a baseball and playing tennis.

DW and I both wear monthly. Both of my teenage DDs wear biweekly. It really comes down to what you and your doctor decide that you can handle. I think that they typically start new contact wearers with a shorter term version. I still have a backup set of glasses for when I'm just relaxing at home.

My doctor started me on Air Optics Aqua contacts a few years ago. As I understand it, not everyone can wear them. In fact, they felt large in my eyes the first time that I tried them, but they are the most comfortable, long day wear contacts that I have ever worn.

I also remember those one year contacts and the multiple chemical cleanings and other pains. Things are MUCH easier now.
