Disney question:

You guys who have rented DVC points, is it cheaper than booking a regular room at Disney? I understand when you have a family of 5+ you need more rooms which makes regular rooms more. I am asking for a 1 to 1 room rate.

I have to echo Brett's response. If you are considering cash stay vs DVC stay at the same resort, DVC point rental is usually cheaper. But, a 40% pin might get you close.

Also, with DVC, it is a pretty standard $10 to $14 per point. With cash bookings, you might get a room and ticket deal, depending on time of year, which might be cheaper as well.

It's hard to say b\c you have to have specific resorts\rooms to compare, time of year, etc. So you'd need to compare something like Art of Animation versus BLT. I have friends that badly want to join the DVC but aren't financially able to do so just yet. So they always rent from DVC owners. From what I understand, it's a pretty good deal and obviously the rooms are amazing in the DVC resorts.

Sorry I couldn't answer your query directly:(

For us, it was cheaper. We're booked in a 1-BR standard villa at BWV. Compared to staying at WL (where we'd likely end up), it was just a little more expensive at BWV assuming we hit a 30% off discount that usually comes around. HOWEVER, we have a 1-BR verses a standard room and if we didn't get the 30%, it would certainly be cheaper. I may end up missing the boat from WL to MK, but I like the savings and increased square footage better.

I guess it also depends on what size room you get and at what rate you rent you points.

Hey guys. Up in maine for the weekend, got away from the heat for a couple days. It's only 95 up here today, as oppose to 97 at home. ;)

Enjoy the weekend. It was only 96 today during DS baseball game. It was a great game for us. Last game of the season, 12-0 5 inning slaughter ruled them. Evan was 2-2 and a walk, played left field and made he catch on the only ball to be hit there. Now on to try outs for next year. I can't believe try outs start next week already.

:wave2: Hi guys! :wave2: I've been on Facebook more than here over the past month or so. Hope everyone's doing ok! The DW & I are finalizing plans for a trip down end of March/first week of April. Hope to meet some of you guys down there.

Welcome back! Have fun planning.

I don't invest in individual stocks (per Dave Ramsey) but I picked Fidelty Contrafund Mutual Fund in part as it includes Disney and Apple along with some other companies I liked. It has averaged 9.88% growth over the last 10 years. I'm happy with that.

I have both in mutual funds as well, but also have small individual shares of both from a long time ago. Not enough to retire on or pay for college unfortunately. I had a penny stock last year that went from 2 cents to almost $14 a share. That put a good chunk of money away for college though. Of course that was one choice of about 50 and most of the others were losers or break evens.

Still past hot and humid here. It's in the mid 90's and humid as #6@&%&(. We have T-storm watch, heard a few rumbles but no storms yet. Supposed to drop to high 70's tomorrow. We'll see. It will be nice to walk to the car without sweating 3 gallons for a change.

Anyone watching the British Open today. How funny is it watching professional golfers try to hit out of the jungle that is considered the rough. One of them shot a 9 on a hole earlier. I'm pretty sure I'd be using an iron all day to stay on the fairway.

Worked up some tentative plans for the April trip. I booked at Boardwalk now, but am going to try to get a BCV/VGF stay.

Saturday - Arrive BCV; Cape May Breakfast; SAB; Mass; dinner Boardwalk QS
Sunday - SAB; Bluezoo dinner
Monday - DHS; Brown Derby Dinner
Tuesday - Arrive VGF; Narcoosee Dinner
Wednesday - WHW; Beaches n Cream Dinner
Thursday - MK; Dinner to be determined from BoG dinner
Friday - Gasparilla Springs QS; Checkout and drive home

We usually do a theme park every other day, but we are going to try and limit it to two for this trip so we can enjoy the DVC resorts and save a little money for Fall Break trip in 2014 as well.

I'm not sure I could make the drive down & get away with only spending two days at parks! We're still looking at different options for lodging, but have pretty much all the meals planned, for now. I'm sure that'll change 10 times before we start making ADR's. If you're going to be in the area on Sat 4/5, we'll definitely plan a DIS Dads meet at DHS or wherever you end up. Just a boat ride away!

We're also in the very early stages of planning an October 2014 trip down with my parents. Looking at possibly renting a 2BR DVC at BWV for that one. The issue with that is the 2014-15 school calendar most likely won't be approved until January-February of next year & will we be able to get points at 8-9 months out versus the suggested 11 months out (per David's) on that particular place & room type. Looks to be much easier to get a 2BR at SSR or OKW at the time we'll be booking.

I would love to hit it big and be able to retire. But, while I think I did well picking 3 mutual funds reading the MorningStar reports, I doubt I would have much success in the stock market. I'd love to win the lotto, but since I am neither 90 years old nor blow it in one year, I am destined not to win. Good luck on tryout.

I don't want to you to lose park time that last day, so just let me know when/ where and we'll meet up. We will probably go to church around 6:00 PM. As for two park days, that does stink, but we go twice a year. So, we'll still get 5 park days in there. And, the DVC resorts are really nice and have lots of fun things to do there.

As for October, that is the start of DVC season that runs thru Jan past marathon weekends. It is the same for our fall break week, but it is usually Columbus day weekend or the weekend before. So, we book as soon as the 11 month window opens, and hope we guess right. If not, then we try to move it as we are still in the 11 month window. Sometimes we can, and sometimes not.

Hope the heat doesn't get you too bad. I have been loving the last week I am pretty sure our weather got swapped. It has been raining and the highs have been in the 80's. We normally have low 100's with humidity in the 95 - 99% range but nit a drop of rain.

I think the 2 opens are the best tournaments of the year it is great to see them get humiliated by a course the way I do. I know they set up the US open to play hard but the British open is always on brutal Scottish Links courses. Would love the chance to go play one though. Other than my 5 wood I would leave the rest at home.

It has been a cool down day here 80's most of the day but when I left for work it was like 70. I guess there is rain in the forecast tonight, that will be nice for the garden. I hope everyone is well.

Some of you may remember DW is a Cupcake artist. Well she just launched her cupcake business on Facebook yesterday. There is more content being added soon but some of her creations are up and they look great. So if you have a few minute please come check it out on Facebook. Look for Amy's CuppyCakes from Milwaukee, Wi.
Thank you all.

Morning guys,

Laid back weekend. Spending most of it looking through the pictures and videos from the trip. Also trying for the first time to do a vacation video using iMovie. Enjoying it but it eats a lot of time.

Have a good one.

Morning everyone...sure nice to be able to sleep at night without the apartment not feeling like an oven.:thumbsup2

5/11 shifts down, today is the halfway shift of the stretch, it should actually be an easy one I think too. This is definitely the last Sunday shift I will do in a long while though, this is my "fun money" for Disney, eg: the extra beers drinks etc. :drinking1

Thanks Norm! Sadly the causality to the promotion is our Oct DL trip, I will not have anyone filling in my old job till Oct the earliest so I'm stick doing both jobs till then.

Congrats on the promotion and the house! I pray an opportunity like that will come along for us one of these years.

That's too bad, but hopefully another opportunity will come up for you.
