That's awesome!

Great news! I hope it continues to go well.

Congrats Chris.

That's nice!!!!!

Good luck with the visit!!!

That's great Chris. I am glad it went well. We'll have to compare notes as we get a little further in the process.

That's awesome or as Barry said

But did you mention you will be puling her out of school regularly to visit Mickey Mouse? ::yes:: Good luck! Glad it went well.

Congrats!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Good luck

Thanks boys.

David- yes, we'll have plenty to dicuss. When she mentioned I should start a blog, I thought of you.

Pull her out of school for Mickey? Why not?! But I think we realized last night that the only one getting pulled out of school is my wife(teacher). New Girl won't be ready for an American middle school, so we'll probably home-school her for a year or two which means we can say good-bye to my wife's income for a few years. I just have to remind myself, I'm not losing a DVC contract, I'm gaining a daughter.

Good suggestion, I love DW and the mountains, but u lost me when u said you were 2 hours away, needs to be a lot further then that, I already feel uneasy being roughly 4 hours away right now haha, anyways not my vacation so anyone else BEWARE!!!!!

Hurtful!!! :sad1:

Actually Holiday Traffic to those Outlet Malls is enough to keep me away... but not my wife. :lmao:

I've traveled to Michigan for work in December before... multiple times. I'd run like hell. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

I don't know how it would be as far as tourist destinations that time of year. I just know the weather can be very cold and unpredictable with the Lake Effect Snow.
I've been to Madison for work in February. I'm pretty sure I swore I'd never go back there during the winter if I didn't have too. Saw some images of family resorts with Snow tube runs up there that look fun.

We stayed at the Marriott's Surf Club. It's a timeshare resort. My parents are Marriott Vacation Club owners and were able to transfer a week into that resort for our honeymoon.

Definitely recommend staying on that end of the beach!

Let me know if you guys decide on going there. I have some great restaurant recommendations!

I spent months before hand planning this vacation and got some great advice on a discussion board similar to this one!
Seems like Aruba is getting a lot of positive feedback. I'll definitely look on the beach there.

Stayed at La Cabana for my honeymoon. It is a low rise and nice hotel. Pool was good, but you had to cross the street to get the beach and/or casino. Holiday Inn was nice. It is a high rise right on the beach/coast. They had a nice restaurant in the hotel, but I forget the name. There is a cove called Baby Beach which is awesome for snorkeling. Right at the edge of the breakwater is a reef where they have all kinds of fish and creatures to look at. The water is really calm and warm since it is inside of a natural breakwater.

I preferred being on the beach. El Goucho is an excellent steak house if like that sort of thing.:rolleyes1 DW will enjoy the downtown area for shopping and you get to see said cruise boats along the docks. We took a night cruise with dancing and drinks, not necessarily in that order. You can rent jet ski's, parasail, windsurf or just hang by the pool or ocean.

I may hit you up for food advice if the boss signs up on that as a vacation destination. May try and convince dw we should drive to orlando spend a couple days at disney then fly to aruba for a couple days.

I kid, I kid, hasn't seen you in awhile so I had to say hi , on a nice note, one of these days we gotta do a meetup looks like Knoxville/ PF is prob a middle point for both of us

Its been a few days.... great to be back. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday :cool2:

After 2nd's and 3rd's and several leftover sessions after that - I can officially say that I'm ready to take a break from turkey and sweet potato pie :crazy2:

I dreaded coming back to the office this week, but I have to say the Main Street USA Christmas loop on d-cot has certainly eased the pain! :music:

Hope everyone's having a great week.

So we're looking at non-Disney ( :( ) trips for December. We're looking at either a trip to somewhere cold like Vail or Park City, but DW doesn't ski so it seems pointless to me. We're also looking at Aruba. Does anyone have an great family trip ideas for December? DW has tasked me with figuring out where to go, but the cheap guy in my head just keeps yelling "we have annual passes every second of vacation should be spent at Disney."

I agree that spending high-season prices at a ski resort, when you're a non-skier, doesn't make much sense. If what you're looking for is a relaxing trip, my wife is a big fan of St. Lucia. It's somewhat less-developed than many of the Caribbean islands, but absolutely beautiful and serene. (She went there for two weeks right after she passed the bar, to visit her dad who was in medical school there. She stayed with him for free, so I can't really tell you anything about the resorts. But she talks about spending days just lounging in a hammock, picking her lunch from a banana tree).

Hey guys. Long time, no post.

I've been to both these islands, and think either one would be a great destination. I like St. Lucia a little better because the geography/landscape of the island is a little more varied and interesting. Aruba is a desert island, so it's a lot of flat and sandy. St. Lucia has at least a mountain, and some beautiful forests. I'd say the beaches are comparable.

St. Lucia also produces a very tasty spiced rum.

I stayed at one of the Marriott properties on Aruba, and at Le Sport Resort in St. Lucia for our honeymoon. The latter is probably not the best bargain for a family vacation, though it was a lot of fun.

I wouldn't go there Ryan - I heard there are catalytic converter thieves there!

That's just because Fed isn't here.

Hey I learned to surf in Delaware and don't you guys have low sales tax. That'd be a vacation DW might like. Also I think it's funny you hijacked an image from an asset protection lawyer.

Low sales tax, as in zero sales tax. So yeah, it's pretty low. I always get messed up in other states when I go to buy something and they ask for an amount that's different than the one on the tag.

And I was looking for Delaware images. Beggars can't be choosers. When you type it into Google, you get one of these: :confused3

I'm pretty sure catalytic converters aren't necessary I can just shove a rolled up sock in the exhausted pipe the next time I go for an inspection.

Our inspection is a joke. You'd probably pass.

Agreed... DW and DS17 are down there today... Eating at PF Chang's Shopping... Coin Shop near PF Chang's Son like to visit. Told them OK...but they would have to bring me home some Orange Peel Chicken.

I wish. Not in the budget constraints currently.

You also have
Gatlinburg,
the apple barn
the mill
and a big ole indoor waterpark. We really liked it when we visited there.

Has anyone done the Pocono's or Wisconsin or Michigan in December?

I've traveled to Michigan for work in December before... multiple times. I'd run like hell. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

As Andy said..avoid these words "Lake Effect Snow" I lived up there and it can turn bad in a matter of an hour so avoid Michigan at all costs. There football team sucks too, just sayin :rotfl:

Wonder what you were thinkin' when you came to Connecticut a few years ago.... :rotfl2::rotfl2: :rotfl2::rotfl2: :rotfl2::rotfl2:

...and it has gone up since then. :sad2:

Hope everyone's having a great week.

I used all the Thanksgiving food for a good purpose this year. I ate as much as I possibly could in order to stretch my stomach and get into condition for our trip next week. I'm going to do some serious damage to the ribs and bottomless milkshake at Whispering Canyon next week. They might not be in business anymore by the time this epic DDC meal takes place in January. :rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

There are other discussion boards?:confused3:rotfl2::rotfl2:

You mean people love to bash other people and flame them just like here? I don't believe it! :sad2:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Yes - surprisingly enough - that board was rather friendly. In fact, I corresponded with a person on that board that was an Aruba local. She surprised us and had a bottle of champagne and some Aruban/Dutch treats in a basket for us!

Very friendly people!

If you go - you must seek out some Stroopwafels and also their dutch chocolate sprinkles which they eat just on bread with butter. It's surprisingly awesome.

These are stroopwafels....

They're basically like a thin waffle infused with caramel. AWESOME. :thumbsup2

Man David, you're awesome! :thumbsup2

And yes, their football team does suck. :rotfl2:

We don't mention that "S" word around here - nor do we like anything to do with Lake Effect "S"!

Wow - I set someone up good - let's see what can be done with it....OWNAGE!

Now that's some excellent strategy. Dads approved. :thumbsup2

Been to Delaware many times mostly a quick 15min drive thru, but I do spend a few days a year there at my friends house, Things I like about Delaware, no sales tax, you can carry a unconcealed firearm, small quick to get around state.

I will travel west or south, I do not go north, last time I was in NY was 1992 and I only live a hour away, never been further north then Middletown NY:scared:
