Morning Guys!

Had a very involved weekend. So many things had to get done, and many of them did not happen. Took the family to the eye doctor on Friday, turns out my youngest DD is almost blind in her left eye. So, she ended up with a prescription and 1 hour a day wearing an eye patch to make her brain start using her left eye. My oldest DD ended up with a new prescription as well, and after 4 yrs we finally got her new frames. Total Cost:$400. :scared:

We have to take the youngest back in 6 weeks to have another eye exam and the distinct possibility of new lenses... ouch.

Matt

Matt,

I hope and pray everything goes well for your DD :grouphug:

Never good to hear that, I hope everything improves.

Have you tried any of the online places for frames and lens. I have a number of people who work with me that order online and they get fantastic deals.

Matt,

I hope and pray everything goes well for your DD :grouphug:

Thanks Guys! Appreciate the thoughts and prayers!

We were going to just go with the normal delivery stuff, wait the week or so and then get the glasses. We didn't expect her eyes to be that bad off and the doc wanted us to start on her treatment(?) right away so we bit the bullet.

I haven't heard of any online places, can you send me a link?

Thanks

Matt

Happy Monday everyone!! :cool1:

David, that is too much enthusiasm for a Monday.

Glad you caught it and prayers it all turns out OK.

Good morning fellow dads, I hope everyone's doing good, scared of this kids phone topic because I know that argument will come before I know it with DD, hopefully I will have a few years before its even thought of, DDs sister had one when she was 6 or 7 and I feel that's wayyyyy to soon

SWMBO tries to argue with the kids and it never goes well. I refuse. I let them present their position and if they do it well I go along. I try not to say no too often and thankfully my 8 and 10 year old aren't very good at presenting their positions yet so it hasn't been much of a challenge.

I think the neighbor's cat is trying to adopt us. She left a dead mouse on the front step today. :crazy2: I told the neighbor and he wants to give us the cat, but I said no thanks. I'll let him have the food bills and vet bills. :cool1: It belongs to his daughter who graduated and brought the cat home to a house with three other cats. I think the cat comes to our house for the peace and quiet.

Presents yeah!
Well cats are nice and this one seems to like you.
Good luck. And enjoy the presents.

Quebec will work nicely, round up Canada to 8 teams (although Edmonton threatens to leave) I don't really see the need for another Toronto team, I'd rather see other markets. Not sure about Seattle, Vegas NO, and KC already had a team before. (Go Scouts!) :rotfl2: What about areas like Milwaukee etc, where hockey might be more natural? The market's probably not the NHL favorite, but what about Eastern Canada?
It would be awesome to have an NHL team in Milwaukee, but it will never happen. Too many arena issues - the Bradley Center (home of the NBA Bucks) is one of the oldest in the NBA and has maxed out it's tiny suite revenue generation. And with Chicago just 70 miles down the road, I can't see the NHL coming here.

Besides, I'm enjoying actually getting to see hockey this year - the AHL is still playing.:thumbsup2

Will do. She is interested in seeing you guys attending the convention. Mostly for the laughs (at our expense) I think.
She's studying psychology, right? Tell her to bring a notebook. Her thesis will write itself with what she's going to see.

Sunday night Faith Hill short dress ownage.

Tim - you know she sings country music, right? Are you admitting to listening to it?:confused3

Sent it to you via pm, wasn't sure if it would show up out here.

If anyone else is interested it is a place called Zinni Optical.

The Sunday night football song isn't country...

Neither is this outfit.

Who cares, she's hot no matter what she is singing.

Plus the pull is no longer there. The Pettit's tried to get NHL in Milwaukee and that was the original design for the Bradley center. Another issue is local politics the city will not help with a new stadium. MLS wanted to put a team here and the city would not deal with them to get a stadium deal. Plus people in Milwaukee are still pissed they are paying for Miller Park via a stadium tax. Hard sell here.
I can remember the days when Admirals hockey filled the BC, now a sell out is the lower bowl and only open the upper for special charity games with $2 tickets.

Barry, where did you read anything about singing?

I hope she is ok. Nice win!!

They have friends who are in 3rd grade with phones and I think that is just ridiculous :crazy2:

I think the phone idea is a bed one, my ex gave my 3 1/2 year old an iPhone to play on and he whips around it like non other, when he plays on mine or DW we have to make sure he doesn't press the wrong button. He likes to try to make in App purchases.
So my vote is no phone till they can drive unless it is needed for some other food reason like to call and be picked up or long vacation away.

Good morning fellow dads, I hope everyone's doing good, scared of this kids phone topic because I know that argument will come before I know it with DD, hopefully I will have a few years before its even thought of, DDs sister had one when she was 6 or 7 and I feel that's wayyyyy to soon

So, I think that is 7 against the phone idea. DW's argument of "because her friends have one" is not doing well with me. I'm just not sure why she needs a phone, and if we did, I would have AT&T disable the internet. DW insists on spending money on stuff, so I'm sure to lose this one.

Prayers for her and hope all goes well. DW and oldest dd both have glasses (DW contacts) and I was able to get a family vision insurance plan thru work for $10 a month.

Sorry to her you may loss the fight, I understand. DW is similar, new purse sure, new collectible sure, I want a new jacket or t-shirt NO. But I get her with the Disney stuff easily, she still has to allow me to buy some stuff because of all the yes' I have given her this year.

Do they have Family plans with shared minutes?

I've thought that we would get a spare phone (not spart phone) that is part of a family plan, therefore we don't pay extra for it. And it stays in the house... if the kids go out to to a friends for the evening, they can take the phone ONLY to call home. Or if I have company from out of town, I can give them the phone to carry for the week.

That is DW's plan. Free phone with add on, $10 a month with texting, and ATT will disable Internet.

Hi dads. Gone all weekend. Good times. Hope no one had any sad issues. Praise to everyone else. Hi Norm

Hi Sean. Testing me to see if I read these or not?

Wow. No subs? You got some good players there. My team of rec U10 girls is a motley bunch. Half have never played the game before and are out of shape. Haven't won a game yet... but we've scored 2 goals! :rolleyes1. One of those girls took a corner kick right to the nose. Didn't even try to move and had plenty of time to do so. My first bloody nose to take care of as a coach. Lots of crying and all. Thank goodness her grandma was there to take over. :lmao:
!

Yup, and 25 minute halves. At each practice, we spend 20-25 minutes on individual ball skills and tactics thru different games. And, i have taught and rotate them thru all positions. So, with the occasional shouting reminder from sideline, they are playing positions, which helped me to rest some on defense at times.

I had my first bloody nose this year in practice on a fluke(not my dd). Two players challenged the ball, the ball went up, bounced on ground, and with backspin, rolled up player's leg into nose. So, not the force, but the angle. Blood and ice packs.

Evening guys..been a good day. Today is DW's and my 12th anniversary, so we did the family thing. Took the girls to the Zoo to renew our Annual Passes and partook in the "Boo at the Zoo", lots of little Halloween fun. Afterwards my parents treated us to an awesome Roast Beef dinner with all the trimmings. NOw just enjoying downtime (Beautiful day it turned out, we stayed at Zoo longer then planned) wore ourselves out but good.

Not for a long time, she is way too easily distracted and forgetfull now...

Sounds fun at the zoo. We haven't went with soccer. As for distraction, i shout squirrel at her every now and then to remind her of Up.

You'd be better off getting a prepaid phone and locking the #'s available on it. If you add a phone to your family plan, you'll be paying anywhere from $5-$15 per month (depending on your plan) just to have it available. With prepaid you can put $10 on it and not pay until you use those minutes up.

But, you have to pay for phone.

Hey Norm, if y'all get a chance to come down for the zoo we have a membership and can get a total of 4 people in for free so would only need to pay for 2 kids admissions, I know y'all have a hectic schedule just FYI in case y'all get some spare time one weekend

How come I don't see any pictures of bacon or Yankees championships or Giants superbowl victories? :confused3

No, but this one hasn't been put back up yet.

The first Marlins' World Championship (not the second one when they beat the Yankees).

How many of your children have cell phones? DW said that on 5th grade class field trip earlier in the month, of about 75 kids, only 20 didn't have some type of phone, and many had iPhones. She is wanting to get oldest dd a cell phone with text plan for Christmas, which is $9.99 to add along with cheap phone. How about you all? When did your child (or plan to) get a cell phone?

She got hers in 6th grade. Mainly because her middle school was far from the house/work and we needed to let her know we would be late to pick her up and to go to a friends house. We blocked text and internet access so it was just the phone.

We won are game tonight 1 - 0 to claim the first spot in the league final. Third year in the league for me and third time my team has been in the final. This will be the second time I actually get to play the game.

Great pics CJ, the walls look good.

Congrats and thanks.

Matt, sorry to hear that. The Pirate Princess got her name when she had an optic nerve problem and had to wear an eye patch 24/7 for months. Hope they can correct the problem with lenses.

She's studying psychology, right? Tell her to bring a notebook. Her thesis will write itself with what she's going to see.

Her Psych class this semester is adolescent psychology so she will be well armed during the convention.

Hope you feel better Dave:thumbsup2

I hope she is ok. Nice win!!

:thumbsup2. Exactly. I am battling the "entitlement" attitude that they see other kids have. When we went to Disney last time we made them earn their souvenir money. Guess what?? They were a a little more hesitant about just buying any old toy.

They have friends who are in 3rd grade with phones and I think that is just ridiculous :crazy2:

We have two girls. They have school uniforms. This year for their regular clothes we gave them each a set budget and we carried an envelop for each of them with that amount in cash. They were much much more selective and thoughtful in their purchases than they normally would have been.

In college, I had a boss that gave his teen girls x dollars for clothes and then matched dollar for dollar everything they earned and spent on clothing above that. I intend to do that too.

:thumbsup2
Yeah, select are our competitive teams here. They recruit both my youngest dd and I a couple times a year. I keep saying no. In our rural area, we can barely field a select team without joining with another county. Thus, in order to play other select teams, there is lots of travel. We can budget the expense, but I just don't believe children should have to abandon sleepovers, birthday parties, etc for the time commitment for our select teams. Now, once she gets to high school, if that is her choice, then I am fine with that. In the meantime, I am coaching my rec my team and players like I would a select team, which probably gives them some advantage.

Due to AAU and Club teams moving into the area in the last 5 years or so, we had to make a decision to either field highly competitive teams or lose the player from our town program. It is a little more intense, but the commitment level is manageable. We practice twice per week and play one game on the weekends. The remaining players are put on balanced teams and play balanced teams from other towns. We are set up in districts here so the traveling is still not bad. Our longest travel this season is about 25 minutes. I agree that sports is getting too intense in general. Both my kids play at least 4 sports each and we don't stress on them being the best. They go out, have fun and get exercise. If they make a top team so be it, if not-no worries. It really is about building good exercise habits, keeping active and out of trouble.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

...DW insists on spending money on stuff, so I'm sure to lose this one....

Are you sure that isn't my wife? :lmao:

Actually, since moving to the heart of Appalachia, my wife is spending far less than she did because A) there are very few places to spend money and B) she finally is seeing what it means to be poor rather than just think she is.
