DIS Dads DDC XXII - End of Summer Bash

I appreciate all the birthday wishes guys! And I don't want to minimize the day. My wife is from NYC from a long line of NYPD, and knew lots of folks from her neighborhood who died that day (as did many of us). Hope you all took some time to remember all those affected both on that day and in the aftermath. I like the new memorial, but this was still my favorite.

In a similar idea and if y’all don’t mind, I’ve got something I’d like to share.

While I was taking a moment or two to reflect on this day, I started thinking about my families experiences in being allowed to see the 9/11 Memorial shortly after it opened. This was in November of last year while we were part of our high school band’s trip to perform in the Macy’s Parade. We spent a couple of hours on the grounds just as the sun was starting to set for the day and that let us see how the memorial itself changes from day to night. I found the experience to be very moving and thought that those that have not yet had the chance to experience it for themselves might just like to see a few images of the memorial. So here goes…

Well, someone in IT went and screwed up. Half the computers are falling off the network, with mine being one of them. Looks like I get to nap until its time to go home.

Good afternoon fellas!

Busy weekend trying to get caught up, we are doing a Reno in the house and an trying to get it together before the snow flies around here. Insulation, vapor barrier drywall paint. Hopefully I get some time to work on it this coming week. We have a special dessert here at the restaurant today......

Pumpkin cheesecake. Tastes like a pumpkin pie but creamy like a cheesecake. Topped with whipped cream, caramel and crushed ginger snap cookies. Yum!

11 years ago. Seems like yesterday in some respects, feels like another lifetime in others. Dressing my kids in red, white, and blue today and taking DD to school, I noticed a lot of other kids wearing the same. DD noticed and pointed it out, but never asked why.

Over the weekend, DW was watching something about 9/11 on the National Geographic channel. I usually avoid that stuff, but I got drawn into it. There were a lot of amazing stories of people who survived and how things occurred... but then they got to the part where the first tower fell, and I cried. I couldn't watch it anymore.

In about an hour I'll be heading into the city to work. I'll be sure to stop and thank some of the people that protect us on my way.

I spent most of today watching 9-11 programing starting with the rebroadcast of the Today show that morning. I was living in NYC at the time and worked near the towers. Loved going there for lunch, the TKTS booth, and a particular bookstore. Still tough to see some of that coverage.

On 9-11, I was starting a donors' conference in DC when someone told me what happened. That was when the first plane struck. Never forget when my boss broke the news to the attendees who were in the middle of a seminar. Luckily all of my colleagues in NY got out of lower Manhattan safely. Spent a couple of days in DC with a friend then rented a car to drive back. Remember driving over the Verrazano Bridge and see the smoke still rising from the pile. And the many days afterward.

DD visited me in NY that summer (like every summer we were there). One day in mid August we were talking about what to do that weekend and I chose to go to the towers' observation deck. A couple of pictures from that visit.

She was in class in 1st Grade and they put on the TV in her classroom the news coverage. She knew how close my office was and the teacher told me later that she became very quiet. It took an eternity for me to talk to her and tell her I was OK. it was a tough day.

I’m actually planning in the near future to do a better job of presenting that part of the trip over in that Non-Disney Trip report that that I’ve been working on. That was one of the last things we experienced during the expedition.

I have watched tons of coverage of that day. For some reason looking at your pictures gave me chills.

Wow that was a trip now memory lane, bit scary also. Up until the 9-11 were they still allowing trips to the Observation areas? The view is nice. But I wouldnt be able to step out of the elevator.

Hearing people's personal stories always touch my heart, that day has and will always affect so many people, it's hard to put into words
