I took this picture yesterday just so I could remember what rain looks like. Unfortunately, this was after the rain stopped and that was all we got. It has been a month and a half since we've even had anything you can measure in a rain gauge.

Here's what I see out my front door. Makes you sick. The corn should be about 7' or 8' tall by now, but the short stuff is maybe knee high and the taller greener corn that is still alive is about 4' to 5' tall. Not very healthy.

Yikes! I hope you get rain real soon.

Corn is bad here as well. The state Ag Commissioner came out and said that Federal funds would be requested for farmers due to yield.

Morning guys. Back at the office after a week off. Re-entry is a b&*ch. :thumbsup2

Abso - freakin' - lutely.

Can we get a list of contacts at other resorts such as POP :)

But, the list won't help unless we get an upgrade out of it. I'm hoping my standard view at BLT gets upgraded to Grand Villa for same amount of points. Is Fairy Godmother on that list?

Hey guys! Happy Monday.

As you can see by my ticker, I just need to get through this week before I'm off for 2 weeks for vacation. I know I say this every year, but I don't think I've ever needed a vacation as much as this year. Can't wait to try out the AKL! :thumbsup2

Wow. If rain does come, is there still time to have a good crop? Praying things get better.

Morning folks..

Oh great. Now we're going to have a Canadian with an ego in our group. :rolleyes2:
Brian has an ego? I thought it was an Eggo...

Bad news - remember I posted about the coworker who got fired? Apparently, everything now resolved and I get to pack up all the electronic equipment from her office and deliver it to boss during travels this week.

That sure sounds like rubbing salt in a wound...:sad2:

I'm not sure what they can request? :confused3 Under the Farm Bill any aid is pretty much spelled out. It isn't anything substantial either. Quite honestly, I wish the government would just stay the Beverly out of it, even though any help from them is much needed this year. In most years the farm program and crop insurance just reward half @$$ed farmers, IMO.

It's getting pretty close at this point. On some of the better ground, the corn is still hanging in there and doesn't look quite that bad. It will make something if we get some rain, but definitely nothing near normal. The short corn in this field is done, regardless. I saw a field on my way to work this morning that had a spot that has died completely and fallen over.

In the top picture, the green in the background is soybeans. They're still green and holding on, but have basically stopped growing. They should be about knee to waist high by now, but they really haven't grown any in a few weeks. They'll be below average, and are getting insect pressure, but they tend to respond well to rains in late July and August when they are blooming and filling pods. As long as they can stay alive and green and we get some rain during that time frame, they could save some farming operations. Otherwise, tractors and farmground in Indiana might be really cheap this winter.

Wow, that just sucks. Not too familiar with crops and such, but trying to picture the corn I see when I head north, it should look fuller. But the first pic with the lawns ouch! Weather is so unpredictable now. Why did Al Gore invent global warming again?

That is sad. Sorry to see that. Many of our grain growers are suffering as well.

Saw some nice corn up in OH grown by former veggie farmers. Ohio has some interesting geology and they bought on top of a virtually unlimited aquifer and installed center pivot irrigation.

I started off just by cutting out soda completely and trying to cut out junk foods. That lost me about 6 lbs or so the first couple of weeks. Then I discovered the MyFitnessPal app and started using that to keep track of my calories. I drank mostly water and some crystal light lemonades and ice teas. Mealwise, I started eating breakfast regularly. Usually a large muffin, or frozen waffles with a little butter and lite syrup, or maybe eggs. Lunch would usually be a PBJ or bologna & cheese sandwich. I also liked to heat up frozen tilapia in a skillet with some uncle ben's ready rice. Dinners I ate mostly at work and those would be Healthy Choice Top Chef meals. When I had calories to spare, I enjoyed candy bars and junk food.

I did not eat salads, nor did I do any type of regular exercise outside of walking. I did some occasional Wii Fit, but not more than 5 or 6 times.

I managed to do it despite a few birthday parties, Easter, mother's day and father's day, and even July 4th. For me, it seems the occasional indulgence was okay. Friday nights recently became a cheat night for me. Last night I enjoyed some Five Guys.

It was tough in the beginning to get used to eating smaller portions of food. But my body has adjusted and I feel fuller on less than I used to.

Sounds doable... especially the no salad part. :scratchin

I need to lose about 30-40 lbs. probably 35... though I'd prefer the 40.

That's brutal Andy... Then we complain about rising food prices.
Yeah... just wait.

But don't worry, corn will be about $8, so those $&#* farmers are making all kinds of money. :headache:

Some people just have no idea how it works. Or where food actually comes from for that matter.

That is sad. Sorry to see that. Many of our grain growers are suffering as well.

Yeah, it is definitely widespread. Even if there was plenty of rain, 2 weeks of 100 degree temps during pollination is going to take a lot out of the corn.

Wow, Andy. Can't see the pics but that sounds terrible!

Hi, Paul! :wave2:

Monday stinks.

Good news - cooler temps with the rain.

Bad news - remember I posted about the coworker who got fired? Apparently, everything now resolved and I get to pack up all the electronic equipment from her office and deliver it to boss during travels this week.

Sorry, Norm...

Good luck with that...

Hey guys! Happy Monday.

Hi, Mark! :wave2:

Still on for August 3rd?

Nice work! I'm down 18 pounds myself. Hoping to be down another 30 before the convention (actually by October if I can do it).

Sorry don't know anyone over at POP. They go through staff so fast like no one wants to work over there. They start there and within a few months move on to POR, CBR, etc...

Hey, cool! A cast member in our midst! Guess I missed that! Welcome! :wave2:

Hey Guys!

I had a great birthday, I sat around the house in PJ's and played XBOX all day...
Matt

Matt, belated Happy Birthday.

Andy,

That really sucks. Hoping for rain so you can salvage part of the crop.
