My fathers day.
Morning was spent getting up at 4:30 am to drive up to Queens,NY for funeral of my neighbour. They are Guyanese so it was very different experience for us. But none the less we needed to be there for her and her daughter, and her son.My wife and her are good friends and my daughter is really close to her daughter.Felt very out of place being there but, friendships have no boundaries. We know it meant a lot to the family and will always be there for them. Attending this funeral on Fathers Day really hits you. It makes me cherish my kids even more. As one never knows when your last day with them may be.

Later in the evening after getting home the kids took me fishing as we had previously planned. We cut out the picnic part but we still got to go out. Was great to be outdoors with them doing some we all like to do. Well kinda sort a in our own little ways lol. Rebecca wont fish with live bait, she does not want to kill anything in order to catch fish. So she goes with artificial baits.Bobby just doesnt like touching worms or baiting hook yet. Well Brandon he dont care he does it all.
We caught a few blue gills a sunny or two,and a turtle. yep Bobby caught a turtle. All in all it was a great time with some of my kids!!!

Oh man. What have I done? Somehow I got this crazy idea in my head that I could do the 1/2 marathon in January and my sister convinced me to sign up with her. So I bit the bullet last night and registered.

So I guess what this means is that I will be at the DDC so long as my body survives the training. I don't think I can run 1 mile at this point. I think my legs will need me to lose another 40 lbs to endure the rigors of 13.1.

How does the saying go? Nothing worthwhile is every easy.

Good to have another joining us

Morning guys,

Had a good Fathers Day yesterday. Made dinner at home and DD and I watched the Heat game. Up 2-1. She rarely watches games on TV but got into it.

Tons of stuff to do today getting ready for the trip. Stayed up late last night so it is hard getting started. Take-off is rapidly approaching and a lot of things to do.

Good Morning!

in just a few minutes I am expecting a call. Doing a phone interview with an HR rep for a possible job. Very nervous. Haven't interviewed for a job in some time.

Excellent! Come join Tim and I over at our Nemesis Challenge Thread (See link i my signature). We're both 1/2 marathon rookies running in January. You've got time to get in shape! Pick up a Couch to 5k or Couch to 10k program to start, then build up from there. Even if you can't run the entire thing you can run what you can and walk the rest. Then you can at least say you did it!:thumbsup2

Good luck! We're all counting on you! :thumbsup2

it was quick and relatively painless. Seemed like more of an interview to weed out people, and steer the rest toward the right job than anything else. There are two openings for different jobs, and the HR rep seemed to feel I was best qualified for one over the other. So, it appears I made the cut and moved on to Round 2. Now waiting for that, and trying to think of ways to brush up on my interviewing skills.

Well done. Good luck with Round 2. :thumbsup2

Congratulations and best wishes for round 2

Waiting on a call from the DDS. I did find out from the receptionist that she will do extractions so that at least is one step in the right direction. I thought I was going to have to find another dentist.

Joining the group of refinancers possibly. If it works it will save us a year and ~$50 per month that can be applied to the principal. Wanted to do a 15 year but that would have raised the payment $34/month and don't really want to be locked into a higher payment. No guarantee it will even go through because of our unique living arrangement.

Long, busy weekend

I hope everyone had a great Fathers Day!

Mine was a busy day, I actually didn't even get to see my dad, because we were at home getting things ready so the in-laws could come over last night. We had some hot dogs and burgers on the grill and DW made some bacon to put on the burgers. Well, by the time the guy running the grill finally got a chance to eat himself, the bacon was gone. :headache:

DD made up for it though. Last night when I put her to bed I was talking to her and she smiled at me... not the little "I've got gas" face wrinkle thing either. She had the eyes wide open with a happy sparkle in them and gave me the biggest smile I've ever seen from her. Totally made my day.

Nice! You're going to love the half marathon. It's a blast! :thumbsup2

Doh! That reminds me - I still need to sign up for the Goofy. DW and I are planning a kids-free trip that will basically be "we go down for marathon weekend, we both run a race, and then come home" - I'll see all the parks, but not for long, and not much will be open. :rotfl:

Anyway, just find a good C25k program, go to a running store to get good running shoes, and remember that:

1) walk breaks are fine, especially when you first start out
2) DLF>DNF>DNS (Or, Dead Last Finish beats Did Not Finish beats Did Not Start)
3) cotton is rotten - cotton shirts, shorts & socks are evil, created in the pits of Hell specifically to torture runners.
4) Vaseline and Body Glide are your friends

And so the wrapping of dad around her little finger begins....:thumbsup2
