Yep, about 90 mi away from Kings Island. Love that park. Rarely ever get there anymore.

Sorry, Rob, but if I'm going to drive that far for an amusement park, I might as well go a couple of states farther if you know what I mean. :rotfl2::lmao:

I’d be in total agreement with that one. No one should make a long distance trip to the Charlotte area just to see Carowinds. Now if you wanted to also see the NASCAR Hall of Fame, take in some decent AAA baseball, spend time at the National Whitewater Olympic Training Center, check out a couple of Revolutionary War national battlefields, (while also partaking of some dang fine BBQ, RoadFood approved fried chicken, excellent fried seafood or some, amazingly good hotdogs) it would be a different story.

Carowinds is nice enough for a smaller park, but not worth more then say 4 hours maximum of travel time. Unless of course you wanted to break up that “longer drive” into a couple of days (and take advantage of the fact that we also have room for guests).

You must be working for the department of tourism or chamber of commerce on the side, right? :confused3:rotfl:

Like phoutoupass.....? :lmao:

i upgraded to plus for this trip. How much extra do I have to pay for the extra U's version???

Well can't wait. I just have small fear of the ocean though. Especially when on the news this morning two guys jump off their boat to dive, but as soon as they did there was a great white swimming right towards them, then it kept swimming between them and the boats as if it wouldn't let them leave. They had to keep poking it with spears to get it to go away!

Can't wait to see this report.

Good morning everyone!

Great White encounter!! sounds like fun. At work the other night, we were talking about sharks eating people. At one point I said, "well, if you walked into my house dressed like bacon, you probably would get eaten too!"

So it's kinda funny....

My DW seems to be really getting into meeting up with you DisDads like we've been doing...

So she asks me on the way home yesterday from the Great White North..."who else lives nearby we can meet up with???" :rotfl2:

It's a trap!

cool. I can see some similarities between that place and the real Canada in Epcot!

I don’t think there’s one in Indiana, Cincinnati would be the next closest.

Now, one of their parks happens to be just five minutes from my front door, but I don’t suspect that y’all will be much interested in driving all the way down to the North/South Carolina boarder just for that.

Yeah Rob - I think I'm in agreement with Andy on this one. We do love the Charlotte area for many of the reasons your mentioned (food)!

Andy - I haven't been to Kings Island since I was like 8! We've always talked about possibly going down to check out what's new since then (27 years of new stuff).

But, believe it or not, we're running out of free weekends to do anything before my DW goes back to work. Maybe next summer. :thumbsup2

And… there it is.
Meer minutes.

Why did it take so long? :confused3 were the boards down??

I'm now starting to ramp up planning for the October trip. Staying at Old Key West...any of you guys have any pointers for that one?

I hear that they've had a lot of things misspelled there lately. You may want to consider some sort of de-zerf-inator.

HOpe it gets better. Two requests that are popular - Turtle Creek or Hospitality House. HH gets you near feature pool, water slide, Olivia's restaurant, and outside QS, and boat launch. Turtle Creek has a private pool, shuffleboard, & QS. There is one part (South Point?) near Typhoon Lagoon that you can hear at OKW when there are late night events there. We did Turtle Creek and liked that area.

making a mental note for future reference... and filing it somewhere I'll probably never find it again.

I know what you mean... I'm an hour and a half away and last summer was the first time I could find a Saturday to get there in the past several years. We'd like to go back with DS again this year to help prepare him for our return to WDW this fall, but that isn't looking too promising either.

The changes in the past 27 years are pretty incredible. Heck, it was a lot different last summer from what it was the last time I'd been.

Let me just say this though, the Beast is still friggin' awesome! :thumbsup2

Hey you forgot they also have an Ikea, a Bass Pro Shop and a Great Wolf Lodge. I was supposed to run a 10 Miler at the Whitewater Training Center next weekend, but our church is having a block party to promote our launch so I need to stick around for that.

Survived the marathon work weekend. Still tired.

DD got a call from Mickey today to tell her how excited he is that she'll be going on the cruise. I failed at getting video of it, so DW arranged to have him call a second time!

called the Beach Club just to inquire about having guests at Storm Along Bay. Told the official answer is "No", but that if I ask at the desk, I *might* be able to get a daypass??? DW and I are staying at BC with the kids, but the rest of our family (12 people) is staying off property. I guess we'll find out at check-in, or the next morning since that's the day we would want them to come hang out with us.

printer is out of ink. I think today might be the day we upgrade to wireless printer. The cartridges alone will run me a bit of money. So if a new printer comes with ink, it might be time.

Well, back from our trip. I'm not even going to try and catch up on everything. It was the first long car trip for DDalmost2 and she did very well in the nearly 39 hours (total for both ways combined) of seat time. Should have been closer to 36 but for some pesky Atlanta traffic and beverly detours around Louisville and Nashville.

I am not much on trip reports but I will try to upload a few of my photos in the next couple of days. We only did 2 park days - 1 Epcot and 1 Magic Kingdom. Was able to see the Magic, Memories, and You show for the first time and I was blown away. Very cool, it might be my new favorite show. Service at O'hana was a little off this time. Had to wait a long time for some of the meats (but they were still delicious).

All there is to say is that Disney does it best. Need to start the planning for the DDC. We come away from this trip seriously considering DVC once again. I just can't decide whether I should go direct or resale. Thoughts?

Afternoon guys.

Lots of chatter on here today. Anybody workin'? :confused3

I'll second Turtle Creek area. It's a long walk to the Hospitality House but nice, quiet area and you may be able to hear the music from Illuminations at night. :thumbsup2

The Ford Chevy debate continues. But, since they are now made in Mexico and Canada, do we call them imports?

They are ALL imports. Just a matter now of how much of the vehicle is imported.

the 4 day is just a teaser for the 5 day. The 5 day a teaser for the 7. the 7 day is a teaser for the 10...

see where I'm going with this? :rotfl2:

::yes::

Other then the hall of fame, I didn’t mention any of the activities our local chamber would normally be pushing. Not to mention I said that you should not drive a long was just for the amusement park. I guarantee that that kind of talk would get all their knickers in a twist.

:rotfl2::lmao:

Hey you forgot they also have an Ikea, a Bass Pro Shop and a Great Wolf Lodge.

See… now that’s the stuff that our local Chamber of Commerce spends it’s time promoting.
:sad2: :rotfl:

Family events always come first. I’d be sticking around home as well on the same conditions (of course the chances of my running a 10 miler under any circumstances are neigh on to nonexistent).

Good question.
:scratchin

Of all the feature pools, Storm Along Bay is the one that Disney guards most jealously. They actually checked our KTTW cards and issued wristbands to all the guests that were approved to be on site when we were last there.
:scared:

It’s worth asking though. I hope that you can work around the restrictions.

Welcome back!

We're DVC members and love it. I bought direct from Disney, after listening to them tell me why I shouldn't buy resale (which is much cheaper, obv.). Not sure it matters too much though unless you may want to use your DVC points for other Disney vacations (cruise, ABD, etc) I don't think resale points can trade into those. Good discussions about it up in the DVC thread in the Disdads forum here though. Good luck!

That's a lot of seat time for a little one. Nice job!

Well, if you go direct, make sure you mention my name so I can get a referral bonus. :lmao: But if you want to save yourself some money, resale is the way to go. There are a few more restrictions on resale points (you can't use them to book cruises, Adventures by Disney, or non-DVC resorts like the Poly) but that's about it. No one at Member Services will know where you got your points and you're treated the exact same as every other member.
