Hey guys,

I'm back at work today. For those not on FB, my MIL is in critical condition in the hospital with a sepsis infection. She is currently sedated and on a ventilator. She collapsed on Sunday while at the hospital--her lungs and heart stopped, but doctors were able to revive her. They've got her on meds to bring her blood pressure back up. If she can stabilize without meds, they'll probably do surgery to find whatever organ is infected--hard for them to tell right now because her body is in shock and there's so much swelling. The doctor told us last night that her prognosis is 50/50 and she's still deep in the woods. So things are pretty stressful, and obviously my wife is a wreck. I'm ready to leave at a moment's notice if anything happens.

Honestly, I thought I had replied to this earlier, my connection keeps cutting in/out. My thoughts and prayers going out to your MIL, DW, your family and yourself. Keep the faith.

If it were easy for me to transfer out of my district (or region for that matter), we would move out that way, hell even London is better then here in Mississauga. It's WAY too expensive to live here, and way too close to Toronto.

DW has lived in both (lived in London while going to Fanshawe), she prefers Sarnia too. I think it's quick access to the border that does it.

I moved from Sarnia to London to go to Fanshawe as well, I never liked the way it was laid out. A comedian we saw said it best, "We'll put the schools over here, the hospitals here and here, the malls here and over there, houses here here and here..........Awww crap we forgot roads!"

I loved Mississauga for the first few years we were there, after that the commute started to get to us and the last thing we wanted to do on the weekend was go downtown. When we got the chance to transfer down to NC we jumped at it, there was no way we were going to be able to afford a house unless we headed way outside of town.

I was there Dec 3-10 in 2010. I thought the crowds were easy. Pop Warner was there, but they didn't seem to affect anything during our stay. Check the weather. WDW can be surprisingly cold at that time!

Just got a call from DW. Took the kid to the Dr. this morning because she saw that he was getting a rash. Turns out it's chicken pox.

Yikes. I actually got the chicken pox at Disney World when i was a kid. We were asked to leave. No fun at all.

That is it in a nutshell for us. There is no way we can afford a house in this city, the prices are just too high. Even my parents relatively small house is valued higher then you'd think. Too many houses in this area are in the million dollar range, you can see them from my highrise. If we want a house, we need to get out of this city. The biggest problem is DW works in east-end Toronto (NOT moving to Toronto), and I am tied down to this geographical area through work. Transfer IS possible, but very hard and complicated to do. The other factor is I don't want to be too far from my parents right now, especially with Dad going through chemo etc, in case someone is needed for something around their house. My brother already is way out in Hamilton, and can't get out here so easily now. Somewhere down the line, I will look a lot harder at a transfer. I'll need to overcome some personal issues and get my drivers licence, and get to a new district/geographical region. DW can likely get a new job in her field easily, now that she has years of experince under her belt.

True, but since I was kind of a "support outpost" in Toronto, I was able to join the rest of the team in Raleigh, buy a house for 150K here that would be 450 to 600K in Misissauga, and the best part....if I hit three green lights I am only 5 minutes from house to office

That is it in a nutshell for us. There is no way we can afford a house in this city, the prices are just too high. Even my parents relatively small house is valued higher then you'd think. Over his life he did VERY well for himself so he told the real estate agent to find a couple with at least 2 kids who had been looking for a house and couldn't afford anything in the area. After meeting with a couple he told them he was selling them the house for 250K. He told them he just wanted to make sure a family would have it and be able to grow in a good neighbourhood.

Is the economy there the same way it is here? I think about moving to FL everyday, but since I have a job here (well, a couple of them), I'm extra scared now.
